Overview of the 14PJL
Although Rheem does not currently manufacture the 14PJL heat pump (still available in the Value Series single-stage offerings are the 13PJL and the 15PJL, as well as the 14PJM models), a parts list for the 14PJL dating from 2011 still is in circulation. The 14PJL can achieve a SEER rating of up to 14. The unit has a cube design, which is manufactured from steel, and the motor is mounted for quiet fan operation. The unit was designed with easy access to controls in mind. The 14PJL is part of Rheem's base level of products.

"Bad AC unit leaking on second year"
Rheem agreed it is bad unit and it is under warranty. But Rheem request consumer to find a contractor to do the installation. The contractor has to pay the new unit first and pickup the unit from a distributor located out of the state. No contractor want to do the job. Therefore Rheem's warranty is a fake warranty. Don't buy any Rheem products!

This heat pump unit was installed in August of 2010. As of 1-04-2012 (17 months) it has failed 4 times. There seems to be no way to contact the company directly to attempt to obtain a replacement unit. This is a split unit. Compressor unit 15PJL48 Air Handler RHKLHM60

"Unit is leaking all over the place"
One week and the outside unit is leaking all over the place. But what you expect made in Mexico !!!!!!! The biggest mistake of my life!! Rheem do not back up their product. When the unit is broken you need to wait and wait. I have a newborn baby and for the past week its been over 90 degrees in my home. Do you think they care? No! They got their money now with no cares.
Other 14PJL Reviews
A consumer poses a question on gardenweb.com asking whether a Rheem 14PJL Value Series heat pump is the right option for a 2,000-square-foot southern condo. After posting back and forth with a contractor, the consumer decides to go with a more efficient heat pump, deciding against the Rheem value series. That decision may have come about as the expert poster mentions rumors circulating about problems with the PJL series.
A more recent post on gardenweb.com concerns a homeowner trying to decide between quotes on a Rheem Value Series unit or a Lennox or Trane unit. An expert states that Rheem is one of the most overlooked and underrated systems, and he recommends it highly.
The experts on hvac-talk.com give Rheem favorable ratings overall, but at least one contractor mentions that the PJL models are inexpensive and may not be as well-built as some of the manufacturer’s other models. The experts stress that load calculations and ductwork inspections are very important in any HVAC installation. In the end, the homeowner opts for a more efficient Rheem unit.
