Overview of the Acclimate
The Luxaire Acclimate is a heat pump available in both split-system and packaged models. The split system Acclimate is available in two models, the HL6B and the HL8B. The HL6B is an Energy Star qualified single-stage unit with an efficiency of up to 16 SEER and 9 HSPF. The HL8B is a two-stage unit with an efficiency of up to 18 SEER and 10 HSPF and has been named an Energy Star Most Efficient 2015 product. Both units use the SilentDrive comfort system which silences vibrations to provide lower operating sound levels.
The Acclimate packaged heat pumps are available in four units -- BHZ, BHQ, BHX and DHQ -- with efficiencies ranging from 13 to 14.5 SEER. All except the BHZ are Energy Star qualified and all are available as single- or three-phase units. The BHZ, BHQ and BHX are compact, all-in-one packages, while the DHQ is a dual fuel, all-in-one package.

1 reason- York/Luxaire is still made in the USA. This is the single biggest reason I chose Luxaire over Carrier. I am an involved homeowner, especially when it comes to major purchases like the HVAC system, so I did a great deal of research, and I felt that the York/Luxaire products offered the best combination of functionality, efficiency, warranty, and cost. Also, the York/Luxaire products did not have the reputation among HVAC professionals of being "over-engineered" with a lot of proprietary, complicated, and potentially hard-to-find replacement parts that Lennox has (my other brand finalist with Carrier). Finally, all of my research kept coming back to the same basic thought which is the installer is ultimately more important than equipment brand in today's world. With many manufacturers all using the same components (or component brands) for their equipment (motors, compressors, coils, etc.), the installer becomes the most important variable in the HVAC system. And it was Shawn and Nick of Community Heating and Air (Cochranville, PA) that really made the difference and made up my mind to go with Luxaire. They were both attentive, thorough in their inspection and proposal, and most importantly knowledgeable and confident without being pushy or arrogant. And their installation was outstanding! During this first year of operation, our utility bills are down significantly, with our total propane bills for this past winter less than a third our normal rate thanks to our heat pump. And even keeping the house at a toasty 73*, our electric bills have not been much if any higher than with our previous propane furnace. Yes, I would recommend Luxaire and Community Heating and Air without a moment's hesitation!

My unit is such a piece of junk that the model is not even listed in the list. It is model number HL5b024F1. Do not buy any Luxaire products. I had mine installed in 2008. I have spent over 500 dollars each year because it shuts down on me. No one can tell me why. So I have paid all this money and the repairman leaves after hitting the reset button And charges me 300 dollars for a diagnositc test that shows nothing. They don't stand behind their product. I asked to have the electronic board replaced and they will not do it because if Luxaire tests it and it isn't the problem, the repairman has to eat the cost. I have already had a major falling out with my contractor who installed it since he recommended it and would not stand behind the product. I am going to try to contact Luxaire one more time to fix the problem before I claim a lemon law against the product and report them and the contractor to Better Business Bureau. I have never owned anything that is such a piece of junk.

I had a Goodman unit when I built my house 12 years ago and had problems with it every year. I had a Luxaire system installed 1 year ago and it has far surpassed my expectations. The best thing is this system is more efficient, which has helped me save on my monthly heating and A/C bills since installing it. It's very quiet compared to the Goodman, which was very loud when operating. During the time I purchased it I could claim it on my taxes as an efficiency improvement. I haven't had one problem with it since installation. I also had an air handler installed with the new unit and all of it has worked wonderfully. I would highly recommend this unit. I have a Goodman unit for my upstairs bonus room and when it dies I will contact the same installer and have him install another Luxaire to replace it.

I am very impressed with this unit. It works like a champ and I look forward to the summer to see how it does. UPDATE - 2/22/15: My unit has been operational for a month now and I love it. I hope to get many more years of service out of it. I like that it is variable speed and is quieter than my old unit.
Other Acclimate Reviews
There are several reviews on sites such as hvac-talk.com asking for comparisons between the Acclimate and similar heat pumps from brands such as York, Carrier, American Standard and Trane. The Acclimate was not chosen as the best heat pump in any of the posts, although there were no negative comments about it, either. There were a couple of professionals who replied that the York and the Luxaire are basically the same unit.
