"Going on 5th repair"
Heat pump installed 2014. Indoor and outdoor unit and compressor replaced 1st year and now 2 times this week it has gone out. I have lost the seals in 3 double pane windows from the noise it makes and loud thud and vibration. I don't like anything about the unit and would never buy Lennox again. Out side unit is the worst I have ever heard or seen. XP16 air handler cbx32mv thermostat is Icomfort. That is about the only thing I like but no warnings about it ever going out or problems with the unit shows online.

"Junk"
Replaced my old unit with a Lennox XP16 one and a half years ago and it has broken down three times since. I have had two capacitors replaced and now the refrigerant coil is leaking and I'm running on emergency heat while waiting for it to be fixed. Yes warranty covers parts only, not labor. Also found it to be noisy and had to buy the cover from the dealer to deaden the noise somewhat. I bought a Lennox heat pump to save money and as it turns out it is costing me a small fortune in repairs. I called Lennox to complain and got the "see your dealer" line. From my experience with their consumer affairs department, they obviously don't care about their products or their customers.

"LENNOX HEAT PUMP"
This is a gorgeous machine, it is so powerful. We have two 2-ton units. This product regulates the temperature in our home very efficiently. We have had a week of unusually early 100 degree weather and it has kept the house very comfortable. The low speed on the compressor and air handler are very quiet. It has had to kick in high gear in the afternoons but it has always kept the house at temperature. Looking forward to the benefits of lower energy bills.

"Efficient heat pump"
I have had my Lennox XP16 heat pump for over 4 years. So far I have not had any issues or problems with this heat pump. What I really like about this model is how quiet it is. It is both really silent and powerful, when it's on I barely hear it unless I am just standing right next to it. The new programmable thermostat is also really easy to use, I am able to adjust my downstairs and upstairs quarters differently to save money. After owning this model for the last couple of years, I have noticed a significant decrease in my energy bill. This Lennox heat pump is also Energy Star qualified, which gave me a great tax credit. The warranty is also great, I have 10 years of the compressor covered and 5 years of other parts covered. I definitely recommend this model to all my friends and family.

"Not Very Satisfied With Lennox Heat Pump"
I purchased a Lennox hybrid propane gas furnace and XP16 Elite heat pump in the fall of 2009. Three years later, the compressor fan motor failed. Of course it was during the hottest part of the summer and it took almost 3 weeks to get the right motor in and replaced. Now after 4 years, the compressor and check/expansion valve died. Another 3 weeks to get the parts in and the HVAC mechanic spent nearly 7 hours replacing. Came to find out the replacement compressor is smaller than the original which causes a problem with coupling the crankcase heater. Now, a new crankcase heater (heats the oil in the compressor during extremely cold days) has to be ordered and installed. I'm lucky that the only charge thus far is a $75 trip fee from the HVAC company. I have no confidence in this unit and expect more problems down the road. Very disappointed with the Lennox product. I've owned York and Carrier products that were much more reliable.

"Review Revised"
This is a revision to an earlier review in March of 2012 which you can peruse if you wish to know the details of the story. I am upgrading my review to Neutral since Lennox finally agreed to replace my entire heat pump (inside coil and outdoor unit) for free. I needed the intervention of the hvac contractor to help me. I still had to pay for labor which cost $2400. I am out almost 4k for a heat pump that should never failed but at least I got a new one. My recommendation is to always buy the extended warranty on heat pumps. The cost of the warranty can easily equal the cost of one repair.

"Very Unsatisfied"
To say that I am unsatisfied is at the least a gross understatement! After spending 15k for an oversized unit (according to pg&e) the system has never performed to expectations. Utility bills have been astronomical. Calls to the dealer/contractor were answered with statements about my credibility. On 2 separate occasions it failed to turn on altogether. I was charged a service fee as the technician informed me that the repair was not a warranty issue. I would not recommend Lennox to anyone under any circumstances.

Other XP16 Reviews

Many of the questions regarding the XP16 on online forums have to do with installation prices and the cost of use. A member on hvac-talk.com advised that the two-stage unit is more for comfort than savings and will heat or cool more evenly and remove more humidity. A consumer on hvac-talk.com choosing between the XP16 and a comparable Carrier unit decided on the Carrier because it was advertised as slightly quieter.

XP16 Warranty

Product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Lennox XP16 heat pump is comprised of the following:

  • 10-year limited warranty on the compressor
  • 5-year limited warranty on covered components

An Extended Limited warranty and a Complete Care Plus Extended warranty, which covers parts and labor, are also available.
