The Merit series offers two models, the 13HPX and the 14HPX, which are both currently being produced by Lennox. The models carry a SEER of thirteen and fourteen, respectively. Both models in the Merit series utilize a scroll compressor for quiet and efficient operation. The 14HPX has earned an Energy Star certification.

Hasn't worked right since installed late August 2012. Only works in winter months. Since April 2013, I have had installer out to my home weekly. Sometimes unit only worked 1 day then I had to wait a week for them to come back. Save your money, Lennox won't replace the unit and if you get a horrible contractor, they will abandon you before the labor warranty is up.

I've had this heat pump about two years and during a routine maintenance the tech found mold growing in the blower. I Did see it, so no problem there but my old Carrier was 20+ years old and never had a mold problem. The reccomendation to correct it was a 600.00 ultra-violet light permanemtly attached. I have had more frequent upper respiratory problems and wonder if the mold ha been the cause. Has anyone else had a mold problem with the heat pump? I was told that this is very common. I contend that it has to do with the design of the heat pump.

Good job, was nice and clever to reduce emissions of your heating system ! But I think the insulating material used is dangerous because it releases toxic fumes when overheated. We recommend you to use, on your next manufacturing, fiberglass or stone wool with aluminum foil, which withstand high temperatures and does not release toxic gases. Careful though the dust in their use. I hope I helped and sorry for my English, I'm from Greece.

"Would not recommend lennox"
Would not recommend lennox Merit series to anybody. Junk! Lennox will not at all. They always say it is the factory installers problem. I've at it 2 years and it has been recharged with freon 6 times. Your power bill will double! Lennox only cares about your money. Now the compressor has gone out. Junk Junk Junk Junk!

"Stick with the expensive AC unit"
I was told the installation of my furnace and heat pump 13HPX-060-230 was complete, I paid the company. The heat pump has never pushed heat yet, and the cooling is more expensive that the 39 year old clunker I tore out. This was a 30 year plus Lennox company that installed it. I come home after they have been at my house "making it work" to find that every evening it doesn't work, and they show up in a month and do it again. Lennox is so complex that cant even get it to work.

"DOA.. Dead On Arrival"
I was excited that our home warranty company was going to finally approve our claim and have our P.O.S., 12 year old Goodman replaced. The contractor doing the install was confident that this was a great replacement because even though this was the entry level unit, it was basic enough that it would be easy to work on and had less parts that could fail. Heat pump was installed on an unseasonably warm day in February where the outside temp was in the low 70's. When the temperature dropped back down to normal levels over the next 2 days, the pump immediately froze over to one completely solid block of ice. There was so much ice that the fan couldn't spin. The contractor found that the compressor was bad on the brand new unit. Since this should have been tested at the factory, a capital F on quality, quality control, and another F on customer service. Evidently, they were not cooperative and it took several weeks of continued calls to the contractor, warranty company, and then finally a threatened legal action to get enough brass to make the right calls to get the parts needed. The parts have not been replaced at this point.

"Seriously Defective and Costly Heat Pump"
My Lennox heatpump is less than two years old and still under warranty. It has failed repeatedly, necessitating a string of 8 service calls and parts replacements which have cost me more than $1200 and enough aggravation to last a lifetime. Yes, I am dissatisfied with quality control--the same part was replaced twice. I was told that lots of the valve in question are defective and that all U.S. manfacturers use the same supplier. And, while the repair folk were putting in the replacement valve, the fan stopped working and also had to be replaced. Finally, the HVAC service company (who also sold me this unit) convinced Lennox to replace the whole unit. As bad as this shoddy unit is, the warranty is really worse. You think you're covered. For parts only, however, not for the service technicians to diagnose and treat the problem.

"After just 3 years 3 ton Lennox fails, DON'T BUY"
My experience with my A/C service company has been nothing but the best. I know the staff and I know the business and its technologies. They have always done the best work. But recently, they had to charge me over $900.00 (labor and coolant) because my Lennox blew out my reversing valve. Turns out they were bad factory sweat joints. Further investigation shows that this part was not from the good old USA, but from south of the border, where quality control is called maņana. The details of my unit (to back my story up) are model number 14hpx-036 and serial number, 5807M22262. So, if a Lennox customer service rep, who cares about his/her company's reputation reads these blogs, go ahead and look me up via your pipeline. Then try and figure out why you build such rotten A/C units. I am dreaming. Lennox has no customer service sensitivity. I am calling the VP of Sales at my service company and recommending they phase out Lennox. One more problem and I am springing for a Carrier. My old Lennox will then serve out duty at my target range. Yes, all Carrier parts come from the good old USA, and they own up (cash-wise) to their failures. Dr. Carrier even invented the A/C. Not some stupid Burger King character like the "Lennox Dave" icon.
Other Merit Reviews
One consumer on hvac-talk.com asks a question about the difference between the 14HPX and a model in the Lennox Elite series on hvac-talk.com. The experts respond that the Elite series model will qualify for a tax credit and they are not sure about the Merit model. The Merit model also does not seem to have a low pressure switch, which the HVAC experts feel is important.
A long exchange can be found on gardenweb.com regarding a homeowner who is updating his heating system. He currently uses a system with heat strips and is interested in converting to a heat pump; he has a quote on a Lennox Merit series heat pump. One of the contractors notes that he feels this is a lower end Lennox product and he would recommend a Trane product.
A reviewer on webhvac.com writes that the Lennox Merit series heat pumps are reasonably priced and reliable. The author notes that the R-410A refrigerant used in the heat pumps is environmentally friendly.
