"A very bad unit"
The worst unit you can have, I have had to replace everything but cabinet in the last four years.

"Defective but warranty not honored"
We purchased this unit 3 years ago. Three repairs later, we realize we made a big mistake. Our unit was faulty from the manufacturer. Some of the wirings rubbed on the tube that carries the freon. The manufacturer refuses to warranty it, although our local dealer who repaired the unit confirmed it was a manufacturing defect. So between the repair bill and the electric furnace that had to take over for the heat pump, we're out a big chunk of our monthly retirement income. Customer service at the manufacturer stinks. They don't care.

"Not built to last"
Generally not a bad unit at first but system begins to have small problems and fall apart after 8 years. I have to replace the inside coil after finding it developed a leak. The technician also found a small leak on the outside piping that needs to be repaired. I have also had to use standard low efficient filters in the winter and change one to two times monthly. The fan loss using high efficient filters caused the system to not heat house properly even though I am only using a 1" pleated filter.

"Number & cost of repairs since installation"
I purchased a Lennox Elite Series Heat Pump thinking I was getting the top of the line in Air conditioners. The price was reasonable and the dealer did a good installation. The unit was installed on May 26, 2010. The unit performed well but on April 1, 2011 1/2# of Freon was required. On August 3, 2012 more Freon was required, 1# this time. On September 14, 2012 a fan motor had to be replaced at a cost of $185 labor. On July 24, 2013 more Freon was required (1#) and I think dye was placed at that time and a valve was tightened. On November 15, 2013 had a thermostat replaced. More Freon added on June 18, 2014. Had 5# Freon placed on July 25, 2017. Leak was found in coil. Cost about $330 at that time. Had and upgraded coil installed at a labor cost of $685. The dealer has been very good about service but I feel that for the price of the unit a lot has gone wrong in the seven years of service. I thought Lennox sold superior products but that must not be so.

We built our house new in 2006 and had a Lennox Elite heat pump and furnace installed. We have replaced 4 compressors in 11 years. We are sitting here now in ninety degree waiting for another. They keep saying the compressors are flawed coming from the factory. I would say if I have to go with another heat pump it wont be a lennox. They are junk.

"Worst Lennox I have ever had"
XP14-036-230-02 is broken again. Numerous leaks and failed parts, even with them coming out twice a year to check on it. Very poor workmanship and parts. Any energy saving is spent on upkeep and refrigerant.

"HEAT: Good, A/C: Never worked. No problems ever found. Ever"
Had my new house built in 2004 - Lennox was bad from the start. Called several different hvac companies to fix a/c problem. No one could find a problem but the coolest the house would get would be 83 degrees. I guess that's considered normal? Not Acceptable.

"Get 10 year parts & Labor warranty"
I got a 3 ton elite I think. It has failed a couple times both I think to loss of refrigerant. Another time the tech who sets up the computer board had to come out and replace it and adjust it. So I have had some down time in the summer mostly with the ac. I sprung for the 10 year parts and labor though and will make sure when it comes to a heat pump I do that in the future. The company who sold and installed it for me is on the hook for the labor so they really do bust their butts to get the thing right. Its been running well since spring and its now December 2012 and it transitioned to heat just fine. There have been more problems than I would have liked if I had to cough up the cash to cover the labor. With the warranty when I call they jump, they are a good company and believe in and back the Lennox units they sell. 10 year parts and labor makes it their problem so they have taken the opportunities when my unit breaks to fix it right. I think they finally have it running well. I give all the credit to the hvac company that did the install and is on the hook to repair it when it breaks. They have taken responsibility and I feel pretty good about they way things have gone.

"TROUBLE WITHIN 2 YEARS..."
Installed 2010 and Low pressure Valve gaves up.... refill needed (400$) The fan and motor to be replaced cause vibration... The latter should be on waranty. The valve is not warranted, only the seal. Should have taken the yearly inspection....

We bought a high eff. Lennox Elite for our new home 4 years ago. The first unit continually had leaks, was very loud and finally quit a year ago. After many complaints and paying a dealer to come out and add freon to just keep it running Lennox agreed to replace the unit. At that time we replaced the "brain board" and air handler etc. at our cost. Since then the unit is still very loud and continually quits running. In fact I am waiting right now for our dealer to come out and get it running again. We have been through 3 dealers and none seem to know how to get this unit fixed!!! You don't always get what you pay for

"Lennox Elite Air Handler CBX32M & Xp14"
I have had more trouble with CBX32M & Xp14 unit than any other I have owned, plus this unit is "much" newer than the units in any other home I have owned. Though Lennox represented a higher end model but that has not been my experience. Unit has been serviced three times since buying, due to its inability to cool. First time, unit leaking coolant.

"Lennox is JUNK!"
Moved into house (9) years ago. There (7)weeks. Dead of winter. (15) year old Lennox heat pump compressor fried during multiple power outages. Installer out of business. Talked into new heat pump. HP26-042-10P. "Should last 12-15 years." New installer gone. No return calls. Now out of business. Year 6 coolant added. $$$. Year 8 compressor under warranty replaced. $2k. Year 9 bad exterior coil. $3k. Lennox pushing me to the dealers. Not their problem.....

We baught our house in June of 2008. The heat pump was installed in late 07 while the house was vacant. Every year since we got it, it never heated properly in the winter. and Each spring it has had to be serviced to get the system to start up to cool the house. Then this summer, I call the repair people to get it to running again and they tell me that a wire inside it rubbed the copper pipe with the refrigerant in it until the insulation wore off the wire. And when it was naked and sparked it blew a hole in the line of the refrigerant. The thing is, the 5 year parts coverage on it doesn't apply to the refrigerant, the line it runs in or the labor. So basically they built it faulty so that the line and wire would rub, and now they won't cover a thing to fix it. I'm out over $1000.00 The people at lennox completely blew me off and tried to say my repairman was lying. They didn't even appologize for my having to go through this trouble. They have terrible customer service and don't stand by their product. I will never buy a product from them.

"Lennox Furnaces, Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps"
We had a Reality Home built in 2005 and they installed a Lennox Elite Heat Pump (that is the brand they used and we were not given an option for another choice). We have had nothing but problems, problems and problems. Every time we have a service person come out, the system needs recharged, re-soldered and parts replaced. The labor alone is enough to bankrupt a homeowner. Has anybody sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau? I would be interested to learn if perhaps there is there is a class action law suit. It is not working at this time - we are on emergency power only. I am feed up.

Lennox Elite series heat pump installed July 2005 has been nothing but problems. In 2008 there was a problem with the air conditioning, had to have repaired for a high $$$ including having the system recharged with refrigerant because it was all lost due to a line that wasn't properly secured so it rubbed a hole. NOW.....the coldest weather we have had so far this season the compressor just went. Warranty apparently is going to cover that but is going to cost at least $ 1200 for other parts and labor. The local Lennox dealer said it might take at least a week for this compressor to arrive and wouldn't schedule a time to fix this piece of junk until the compressor comes in. Best part is once the new compressor is installed " even know its a brand new compressor " the warranty is not extended for another 10 years -- it will only be covered for the remainder of the 10 year warranty that came with the original one installed. Both of these problems occured shortly after having the system serviced. Seems to be quite the trend here........eh ???

"A great unit"
Replaced a 27-year-old ge split-system heat pump with a Lennox xp14 two years ago. Electric usage was more than cut in half. Unit is much quieter than the old one, and has performed flawlessly.

I purchased a Lennox heat pump 4 years ago - model hp2603615p. It's compressor seized after 4 1/2 years and it's costing me $957 to fix not including the warranty coverage. 10 year warranty on the compressor? That's nice but labor and parts are $957 which are not covered. I called Lennox to complain about the compressor only lasting 4 years and about the cost to fix it. The only response they had for me was to call around to get a cheaper estimate on labor and parts. No more Lennox products in my home.

I can't agree more with the painful reviews on this page. I've owned a 3 ton Elite Series unit for 5 years now and it's been nothing but problems and a financial drain. Failed txv, all refrigerant leaked out, system contaminated. Paid over $1000 in September 2009 to repair. Now the compressor has failed. Probably a complete loss. Wrote Lennox and consumer affairs. Lennox did nothing for me!! Nothing!

"Has been great for 11 years so far"
I installed a Lennox hp26-030-7p on 6/29/1998 (14 Seer; single speed)- it replaced a 15 year old Trane that had started failing; my power bill went down by $10 a month immediately, power bill has ever since been always under $100a month in hot/humid North Carolina. No problems whatsoever with this heat pump in 11 years. Had a good installer, reputable company.
Other Elite Reviews
Reviewers on webhvac.com and heatpumpcompare.com regard the Elite series as a quality mid-level product. A review on hvac-for-beginners.com notes the standard warranty on the Elite series is not as long or comprehensive as other brands.
Homeowners on consumersaffairs.com comment on their warranty term expiring and costing them expensive repairs for their systems. Frequently breaking parts, system shut downs, and "lemons" are issues mentioned on the thread.
