"Good mid line system"
I have been in the HVAC industry for 30 years. Therefore I can say 75% of HVAC failures are due to incompetent installation. A majority of compressor failures and air flow issues are due to "lazy" installers, or technicians. I have been installing Heil equipment for 20 years, and have had no call backs in the first 5 years. Most of my calls are related to small failures such as capacitors, defrost boards, or fan motors. A majority of the problems are due to lack of maintenance, such as not replacing filters or cleaning coils. Overall, Heil has been a reliable line of equipment to date. It is important that you choose a reliable contractor or technician. A good place to find one is referrals from friends.

"Junked after 5 years"
I bought a new home in October 2010 with this Heil unit. Neither the builder nor installer registered the unit, so the warranty was 5 years. During the 5th year, the system started losing refrigerant. It was several weeks after the 5 year warranty expired that an HVAC contractor found the leak in the handler copper coil. They also found a cracked plastic pan in the unit and damage caused by the persistent low level of refrigerant in between refills. Because of the cracked pan, the unit was badly rusted as well. Two HVAC companies recommended installing a new system rather than spending money on the damaged system. I have two neighbors with the same unit and both are experiencing refrigerant leaks. Apparently there is a weakness in the copper coils in the exchange unit. I would never buy Heil again. There are much better brands -- and make sure your warranty is registered with the manufacturer or you only have a five year warranty on parts.

"Heat pump / AC"
Booklet only has a n4h3 on cover. Installed last Monday, June 23. Does not cool. Stopped working. Never worked all last weekend. Installers, Buckman's Family Fuel, in Chestertown, ny, came back today June 30 to fix. Left by 4 pm, it still does not cool. It turns on and off and on and off and now they are closed. I am 72 years old and have had air conditioning and/or a heat pump for a good part of my life. Never had a problem with other manufacturers. Will never buy this brand again and will never recommend it.
Other N4H3 Reviews
Among the very few comments regarding the N4H3 on HVAC forums is one on gardenweb.com stating that while it is a bottom-line entry model, it is similar to other entry models and the most important thing with any unit is the installation.
