Overview of the GPH 13

The Goodman GPH13 heat pump is currently produced and sold by Goodman as the GPH13 M series. This model is available for both commercial and residential applications. The GPH13 is a packaged self-contained unit that can be placed outside a building or on the rooftop. The model achieves a 13 SEER efficiency score, and uses the environmentally green refrigerant R-410A. The four and five-ton units provide two-stage heating and cooling. The GPH13 condenser fan motor is enclosed for safety and protection, and the blower compartment is completely insulated.

"Goodman is garbage!"
The outdoor unit will not stop leaking no mater what and it's hard to tell when the system is running on emergency heat as the unit will not tell the thermostat that it's on emergency. The only way to tell is to walk outside and listen to the unit to see if it's running which it has not for 80% of the time that it's been installed in my house. The unit is only a year and a half old at this point. I would never buy anything that is Goodman brand again as I am one of many people I know with similar problems.

"Total crap"
Brand new unit when we bought our place 5 years ago. It's been nothing but trouble from day 1. We've replaced every single part in the unit that goes in the attic. Now we are starting on the outside unit. The most recent estimate to repair it is $1500. The price to replace the entire unit with a Trane is $5000.

"Bad unit"
Unit installed on 7-11-14 and Freon leaked out. The installer will not return my call. Cost was high so I call another company to come and check out the unit. He said the unit was under warranty and should be for both parts and service, since we did not buy from him would have to charge for service, Freon, etc. He ordered the coil and I would have to pay freight from Texas. Expenses we should have not had.

"Bad"
We have spent as much on repairs for this piece of junk than it cost us. We have not had any kind of compensation from the company, nor have they returned out calls. This had been going on for five years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona and to not have air conditioning in the summer is a health issue.

"Junk... Just Junk"
As Hal said below, these units are complete junk. Having a brand new unit, my coil developed a hairline crack (and corrosion) due to crappy mounting and overall poor quality when it was 2 years old (you can read many complaints about their crap coils). Goodman refused to honor their "10 year warranty" (or acknowledge there's a design flaw in the mounting). Now two years later - almost to the day that the last one was replaced, it has fallen apart again and lost function. The repair company (that should be named "Crooks") who initially installed the whole new unit and the replacement coil (and charged me) now wants another $600+ to replace it. Really Goodman / Crooks Heating and Cooling? 2 years out of a coil and it's not a "problem"? I don't know how you're staying in business constantly screwing over senior citizens on fixed incomes. It's not bad enough that you have an insane markup on the junk units, but now you want to bend me over once again. Guess what? That's not happening. I'll fight you tooth and nail in court. My advice is to avoid Goodman units (and get a repair company that actually goes to bat for you with warranty claims instead of against you). Spend the extra money and go with a brand that stands behind their products since Goodman does not!

Never again -- put $900. in it last year,now it needs another repair of $1600. if you have to much money then buy this brand they will help you to spend it!!!!

"Poor workmanship"
Had it for 5 years -- the indoor coil went bad because it is a defect in the coils and goodman doesn't stand behind the product. Poor customer service. I will tell all my freinds not to buy goodman. I will never buy goodman again -- I'll pay more for a company who stands behind the product

"SAVE MONEY MY BILL IS 300-550 a month"
We purchase this to save money our house is 2200 square foot we keep our thermostat at 58 so we can afford to pay our electric bill we are gone from home 10 hours a day with no lights or anything on, and our bill in the winter @ 58 is 350-550 dollars how is that a saving!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we are freezing to death!!!

"Electric bill doubled when unit was installed"
On April 13, 2011 we had 3.5 ton 13 seer Goodman installed...replacing our 14 year old Goodman 3 ton unit which we were very satisfied with. The new unit cools very well. Problem is our electric bill doubled. Compared with same dates last year usage went from 1429 kwh a year ago to 2880 kwh. Bill 7/20/2010 $ 200.88 to $ 403.98 7/19/2011. No other changes other than the new a/c package. Electric Company says weather temperatures are equal and electric rates are even lower this year. Air conditioner installer checked it..briefly..said nothing wrong. What can I do? I can't afford $400 electric bills.

A potential customer writes on the hvac-talk.com forum that he is trying to choose between a Rheem model with 13 SEER, and the Goodman GPH 13 unit for an apartment complex. Several HVAC contractors answer; the majority believe the Goodman is better, and they note that the Goodman warranty stays in effect longer. One expert who works for Rheem differs on this opinion.

The writers on hvacsite.com do not note any problems with Goodman heat pumps. A discussion on doityourself.com reveals that some contractors believe Goodman quality is not as high as some other companies, such as Carrier. The contractors note that Goodman is fairly lax in who they allow to sell their product, and therein lies the problem. The advice is given to make sure a reputable contractor installs your equipment; with this in mind, the Goodman heat pumps are as good as other brands, according to some installers.

GPH 13 Warranty

The Goodman GPH13 provides a limited parts warranty for ten years. The unit must be owned

by the original owner during this time period for the warranty to apply, and the product must be registered online within 60 days after the original installation.
