"Bad choice of heat pump"
Built new home in 2015, had electric furnace and heat pump installed Goodman DSZC18 moved in 12/10/2015 so now have been here about 15 mos. The heat pump went out 3rd day after we moved in and took about a month to final get running again. Since then they have been out approx twelve times to fix or replace something and as of today 3/2/2017 still is not working. Coming out again on 3/6/2017 to replace another part. In the 15 mos. We have lived here the heat pump hasn't worked more then about 3-4 mos. And that was the ac part last summer. Yeah the parts are covered under warranty but after the first year I am now paying service charges for a product that has never worked since the beginning. I purchased the heat pump because it would cut down on heating bills, but just the opposite has happened I running electric furnace 24/7 all winter and $450.00 electric bills for 2000 Sq.Ft. House. I would strongly urge anyone to not purchase a Goodman heat pump, complete piece of junk. I am now considering having the unit replaced with a different brand maybe a Trane.

"Piece of junk"
I have had this thing in my house for four years and have replaced the board five times also replaced most of the electrical parts. This is a total piece of junk and would make a very nice block for a land fill. Thank you, Goodman.

"Nothing good about Goodman"
Having installed a Goodman heat pump 5 years ago, we have had to have it worked on every year since. Replaced the A-coil 3 times, the compressor twice and it has now bit the bullet after spending thousands in repairs. We gave Goodman an opportunity to make it right and they said all they do is sell them and do not guarantee them beyond the one year. Save your money and time, do not buy a Goodman! Signed, sweating in Illinois.

"A Decent Addition to Your Home"
I have owned my Goodman nearly 2 years now. I have to say I think it is a very good heat pump. It hasn't required much maintenance at all for me so far. There was only one incident when I had to call someone out to look at it, and they were able to fix it for me quickly and also free of charge. I can't remember what was broken. If I had to choose to buy this again, or to buy a different one, I might go ahead and choose to continue using the brand Goodman, but maybe get a newer model. It does an excellent job extracting the outside air and bringing it inside. I wish it cost a little less, because I do not believe it was worth the full amount I paid for it. Looking back on it, I should have waited until it was on sale.

"Goodman Heat Pump Exceeds Expectations"
I bought my 4 ton Goodman heat pump two months ago and it has already saved me an average of $60 on my electric bill. It is brand new and has had no problems. The Georgia heat can be oppressive but this unit keeps us cold, day and night. I bought this unit after replacing my old three ton Carrier AC split unit. The new unit is quieter and runs less frequently. I would definitely buy the same brand again and recommend it to any of my friends. The unit is also equipped to handle my heating needs and I look forward to using it this winter. The system carries a 10-year warranty on the parts and a lifetime warranty on the compressor. All in all, the unit has exceeded my expectations and I know that I will be able to enjoy several years of efficient cooling and heating without the worries of mechanical failure costs.

"Wish I hadn't"
After reviewing several online sites and speaking with AC sales reps, we decided to have the Goodman heat pump, 3-ton, 2-stage, 18 SEER unit installed in a ranch-style home we own in Northern Florida. Our main reason for choosing this unit was "anticipated" energy saving over the current 15 year old 10 SEER unit, based upon what we were told by AC sales reps handling this Goodman product, as well as what online sites indicated we could expect. Unfortunately, this was not the case! In fact, it has been our experience (with energy bills to support our claim) that this new 18 SEER 2-stage heat pump is using 10% to 15% more kWh (energy) than the old Ruud 10 SEER single stage unit it replaced. We contacted Goodman for help and are getting nothing more than a "run- around" from the "Consumer Service " department. In summation, it clearly appears you get what you pay for. This 18 SEER Goodman unit was only $5,200 installed...a cheap price and a cheap product.

"Efficient and quiet pump"
Great heat pump. Goodman means quality and they have a great warranty policy. Overall a very quiet heat pump and in terms of heat pumps, quite the value. Haven't had to repair it, have had it a couple months now. Would recommend to a friend.

Have three Goodman units at different properties. They range in age from 3 to 8 years. Rock solid performance! I have had no major issues only two small ones: a Fan blade came loose and a contactor wire needed reattaching. I don't understand all the negatives. Looking to install another Goodman heat pump in a property I just bought.

"Goodman DSZC18 Bad Heat Pump"
New system installed 29 July 2011 sw Indiana. Goodman Heat Pump model DSZC18 along with new inside unit. 1st problem was when system was running hard in early January 2012 (less than 6 months). Compressor Rotor Lockup. Called for service could not determine cause and reset heat pump controller. Compressor Rotor lockup two days later. While serviceman was checking system again he touched the 220V leads on the controller board and about got shocked. He called regional distributor and they said "Oh yeah, we have had some problems with bad controller boards." Cold solder joint. Replaced board. Compressor Rotor lockup a few days later, serviceman replaced expansion valve and another part and charged system with coolant. I had to pay a $70 service call total (should have been picked up by Goodman). System ran fine until mid May when weather got unusually hot then Compressor rotor lockup again. Reset unit by cycling circuit breaker. System ran fine for 5 days and locked up again. Cycled circuit breaker system locked up a few days later. Serviceman started trying to diagnose the problem, Goodman wanted to blame power to house/unit. Service man finally put on a generic hard start kit but unit continued to lockup almost daily into and through June. Toward end of June 2012, unit was locking up multiple times a day. Regional service tech for Goodman came to house with serviceman and tried many things and took multiple voltage and current readings (I had also been documenting time of day and outside temp when units were locking up). Goodman wanted to blame grounding for power. I checked all of the ground connections and did not find a problem. They had indicated that they would replace the unit but instead serviceman had to drive out of town to pickup a factory hard start kit (Goodman could not be bothered to UPS it). Unit is running better but has locked up twice since the factory hard start kit was installed. I have let the serviceman and the Goodman tech both know this but have heard nothing back. It will be interesting to see how the unit performs the rest of the summer. The hard start kit is nothing but a band aid on this system. The Goodman tech indicated that he was not seeing this problem with the same model on other installations and he covers a large area of Southern Indiana, parts of Ohio and a good portion of Kentucky. Goodman does not stand behind their equipment. I would never install another Goodman system(or any other brand they are affiliated with) or recommend one. Amana trademark is owned by Maytag Worldwide, but is licensed and distributed by Goodman. Goodman Manufacturing is privately owned and headquartered in Houston, TX (USA). Goodman also owns the Goodman, Janitrol and GmC brands of heating and cooling equipment.

"Goodman heat pump has been an excellent addition to our house."
My husband and I were in need of a new heat pump after our old one gave out. After shopping around, we decided that Goodman was a really good choice. We've owned our heat pump for about 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. It wasn't as expensive as some other "name brand" heat pumps, and came with an excellent 10 year warranties as well as a lifetime limited warranty. The pump is still fairly new, so we haven't had any problems with it. It hasn't needed any repairs or fiddling with. Since our heat pump is so much newer than our old one, my husband and I have also seen a drastic decrease in our energy consumption and a decrease on our utilities as well. We talked it over, and if we had to shop around and purchase another heat pump after this one gives out, we would still choose Goodman. I don't know that much about heat pumps, but this one has just been an excellent buy for us.

"Goodman Best Heat Pump Money Can Buy"
Our Goodman heat pump offers us year round indoor heating and cooling comfort. It's very durable but if it does break down they bring another one free of charge. Goodman offers the best warranty in the business. I would definitely recommend it.
Other DSZC18 Reviews
Based on comments from HVAC forums, the DSZC18 is considered a good heat pump, with most problems mentioned on hvac-talk.com being caused by poor installation and not the unit itself. One professional stated that the biggest problem with the unit is with distribution of service parts, otherwise it's usually faulty installation.
