Gibson Heat Pumps

Gibson Heating and Cooling Products Co. is a division of Nordyne. Nordyne was founded in 1919, and owns several HVAC and appliance companies. Gibson heat pumps are part of a split system set-up; the heat pump is located outside, while the coil and furnace are inside the residence. Gibson claims this configuration provides "maximum efficiency and comfort." Gibson offers three series of heat pumps.

Gibson Variable Speed/Two-Stage System

This unit is advertised as providing Gibson's best comfort level with two-stage technology and variable speed. The two-stage system can achieve an HSPF of up to 8.5, and a SEER of up to 16; the unit is encased in steel housing and Gibson reports that it tests the product completely before it leaves the factory.

Gibson Variable Speed/Single-Stage System

The single-stage Gibson heat pump functions more efficiently than the standard model, but not quite so efficiently as the two-stage system. This model also achieves an HSPF of up to 8.5, and a SEER of 14, and is enclosed in a steel casing as well. The product, too, is reportedly fully tested by Gibson before it is shipped.

Gibson Fixed Speed/Single-Stage System

The Gibson fixed speed system is the manufacturer's basic model. It achieves a SEER of up to 14 and an HSPF of up to 8.5. A single-stage system does not provide quite as much comfort as the variable-stage systems. The single-stage unit comes with a matched air handler or coil. It is also factory-tested and fabricated with steel housing.

Care and Maintenance of Gibson Heat Pumps

To meet conditions of its warranty, Gibson requires annual maintenance by an HVAC technician, an action recommended by most HVAC companies for maintaining maximum efficiency of a unit. The manufacturer also suggests "semi-annual preventative maintenance inspections" to ensure the installed heat pump runs in top condition year-round.

Gibson offers a ten-year warranty on all parts when a product is registered. The heat pump must be registered within 60 days of installation. Gibson also provides a one-year quality pledge to replace the unit if the compressor fails within the first year of use by the original owner. An extended warranty is available through your Gibson dealer.
