Overview of the FT4BD
The Frigidaire FT4BD is a discontinued split-system heat pump with an efficiency rating of 13 SEER and 8.0 HSPF. A permanently lubricated motor required no maintenance and combined with a swept-wing fan blade for quiet operation. The unit featured high- and low-pressure switches and a liquid line filter dryer to increase compressor life. The cabinet was made of galvanized steel with a corrosion-resistant polyester urethane finish. The FT4BD used R-410A refrigerant.

"Run do not walk from this unit! Total junk."
This unit has been a piece of crap since installed in March 2008 and has had the inside coil replaced, leaks repaired and the unit constantly fills up with a slimy mess of gray gel-type gunk that clogs the drains, spews the mess out the air ducts as it builds up on the air registers and ceiling around them. The problem is after the inside coil so it isn't something from inside the house. Need a class action lawsuit.

Unit installed in 2008, had several repairs under warranty and never worked right. Never had a year without repairs. Have over $2000 in repairs since the warranty ran out and it's down now. No satisfaction from Frigidaire or the installer. I'm tired of fighting. After I contact the Better Business Bureau I'm getting another contractor to install another brand and accept my losses!

"Frigidaire is the worst"
I got my heat pump in June 2011. The compressor has always made a noise but I was told not to worry about it. It had a 10-year warranty. On December 6, 2014, the compressor went bad. The dealer sent for a replacement that day, but it still hasn't arrived on 1-14-15. I have been told tracking for 2 weeks. Now, today I was told it was probably the weather. I said, no one had trouble getting their Christmas packages. Now that I read these reviews, I see that the product is junk! I've asked for help from Frigidaire, Nordyne. They say they need the name of a distributor. The dealer's secretary claims to not know the distributor. Meanwhile, my electric bill has more than doubled, while I keep my register on 65 degrees. I am recently widowed and can't afford this extra expense.

"Outdoor Unit Info"
We replaced both the inside and outside units with the Frigidaire heat pump because of the 10 year warranty. From the very beginning, the service technician has had to come to our home 3 - 5 times per year because the unit would not work and it would freeze up on the inside and the outside. After 3 years, the technician finally found that the problem was that the inside unit was defective. After fighting with him, he finally got Frigidaire to replace the inside unit. Even after that, I have still had to call him out because we still would have problems. He has been out 2 times this season again and just told me that the outside unit compressor blew and that even though the warranty states that it should be replaced, Frigidaire will not honor their warranty and told him that if he can get it working with a Hard Start Kit, then that is acceptable. There is nothing in their warranty that states that this is acceptable or that this is a part of the warranty terms. It states that it will replace the compressor. The technician does not want to replace the compressor because he does not want to be out the money, Frigidaire is awful!!!!!! Their product is junk and their warranty is not worth the paper it is written on!! I am now forced to involve a lawyer and sue them!!

"Don't buy frigidaire"
Bought and had it installed June 2008. Wasn't heating properly in 2009. Technician found freon leak by tightening a nut inside the compressor area. Now there is another freon leak around the service valve, suction side. Frigidaire FT4BD-048K paid for the first leak, not the second one. Lemon, lemon etc.
Other FT4BD Reviews
In a discussion on hvac-talk.com, a member advised a consumer who asked about heat pumps that the FT4BD was a good unit and that he had one at his own house. Other members agreed, although a few advised looking into a larger unit. A consumer on gardenweb.com mentioned the great warranty on the FT4BD in a discussion of heat pump brands.
