Overview of the Altherma
The Daikin Altherma is a discontinued air to water heat pump system available in three types: split-type, which has an outdoor compressor and an indoor hydronic parts unit; monobloc, which has an outdoor unit only in which the compressor and hydronic parts are combined; and the hybrid, which combines a heat pump and a gas boiler for both space heating and domestic hot water. The Altherma also has a solar integration option. It uses an inverter based scroll compressor with Pulse Width Modulation technology and a swing compressor with Pulse Amplitude Modulation technology. It has a digital user interface with information such as error codes, time, day of the week and temperature, and the unit's heat exchanger features anti-corrosion treatment.

Does the Daikin heat pump reset itself in the event of a power outage ?

"4 years in, has meet every expectation."
I have 3 zone Daikin System. I live in Arlington, Washington. During the winter I run the system 24/7 and keep the house at 70f. We have had a few winters with temperatures at night when it dropped to 10f. No problem, I just leave the unit on and we stay at 70f inside. The unit gets used most of all summer, too, as my attic does vent well and the upper level of the house often reaches 90f +. I would approximate the electricity cost to be around $100 a month running all three zones 24/7. I love the system and have had zero problems or issues with the system, it is surprising to see the poor reviews listed here. My neighbor also has had a Daikin product installed 3 years now on my recommendation of the product. No issues with their system either, they also love their system.

"What a joke! Really!"
We haven't had this product over 5 years, I just shelled out $724.24 for new parts. Sitting here now sweating like a greased pig. Waiting on the technician to figure out what the problem is. (Another issue) He is sitting in his air-conditioned truck while I sit in the heat writing this! Do not buy this product! I want my unit replaced with the Trane we thought we were getting. Next step - my Facebook friends! Then small claims court! I'm done!

Very noisy after few months. Very expensive to replace noisy fan unit motors which go out of warranty fast, the dealer told us clean the filters once a month. After getting him to come out to clean inside of the units which looked as clean as the day they were put in, he told us the manual says clean weekly. Big pain in the rear. Also charged an excessive amount to clean each unit. Would definitely not go back with these excessively expensive units, Daikin is a bad, bad decision!

"The worst system ever"
Turned this system off after a week. It costs a fortune to run. The workmen damaged property and never replaced it. The site manager accused me of lying about some of the work and my garden now looks like an electrical power plant. Would not recommend it to anyone.

"Love my Daikin Altherma"
Initially it was painful. The installer had never installed the Altherma before. After a year, I called them back and found that it was the 2 way valve that just wasn't pushed in all the way. So during the summer, the AC would roll back to heat whenever the hot water tank needed to reheat or someone needed hot water. Now that it is corrected, it is the best system I've ever had. We also have solar panels. Last winter during 1 degree F, the system never let us down. Incredibly efficient. Wish they didn't discontinue the Altherma in the states. If I am wrong in this, someone please tell me!

"Review of Daikin Altherma Hybrid heat pump"
This equipment is compact in the house and the unit outside is well placed. The fitters were extremely clean, tidy and efficient. The inspector explained the system to us again and answered our questions patiently and clearly. You can contact SuperSeal at any time if there is a problem and a fitter will be sent out or someone will talk you through the problem. I would buy the same brand again and recommend the company .

"Possibly the finest make available"
Beware of bogus reviews. Any time you see a bimodal distribution of satisfied and unsatisfied customers, you want to suspect hanky panky. Half of the bad reviews here come from someone calling themselves "Smith" or "Smirth", ha ha. Furthermore, their "complaints" are exactly how the equipment is supposed to operate. These Daikin units reflect awesome engineering and top of the line construction. Their engineers obviously really care about their products. I installed two units in my executive green home over two years ago, and they have operated flawlessly through thick and thin. The construction quality is very impressive. That's about all there is to say about it. Oh, and they sip even less electricity and perform even better than the company's printed claims. How many products can you say that about?
Other Altherma Reviews
The Altherma is used extensively outside of North America but is still new to the American market. According to comments on sites such as greenbuildingtalk.com, the unit is considered good, especially because it also heats domestic hot water, but sometimes has problems at extreme temperatures.
