Overview of the LX
The Coleman LX is an energy efficient heat pump with an efficiency rating ranging from 13 to 14.5 SEER and up to 9.0 HSPF. A raised coil guard and improved compressor technology provide efficient, quiet operation, and a filter drier protects the refrigerant system and extends the life of the compressor. The environmentally-friendly refrigerant R-410A is used by all LX models. Select models of the LX carry the Energy Star logo.

Installed in 2012, this unit has had more repairs in 4 years than my old 15 year old heat pump had in its whole life. Poor installation initially caused a loose electrical connection within 3 months, then low Freon caused a heat outage later that winter which subsequently caused the compressor to shut off without changing the thermostat because of too much Freon. That took them 6 trips and multiple parts to figure out. The air handler motor, an X3, burned out the next year and had to be special ordered from the factory and now, one year later it has burned out again. What would you bet that there's none in stock? If I hadn't bought the parts and labor extended warranty, I'd have replaced this long ago with something not made by Johnson Controls.

"Heat quit 1st time turned on"
Unit was 3 months old. Turned on the heat to check in early November, unit made a noise like a giant vacuum cleaner and locked up. Took over 2 weeks of changing parts per distributor. They found a cut line on small line of a 4 way valve, then HP unit was replaced.

"Very happy with product & installation"
Originally we had a Coleman that came with our manufactured home, it was great. We wasted money replacing it with a different one after it was very aged. We repaired our 2nd or 3rd heat pump last June, but it lasted only a year. Very happy to be back to using a Coleman!

Installed in December, 2009. I replaced the first compressor in 2011. In January of 2015, it needed a second compressor replacement! I have to use emergency heat, it's been on for the past month while waiting for the compressor to be replaced! I would not recommend Coleman heat pumps due to the troubles that I have had.

"Great equipment & contractor"
Unit has saved me 20%+ on my utility bills. Integrity Air Conditioning, LLC., is a dependable and honest contractor for installing HVAC and home energy saving solutions in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and I would highly recommend them.

"Good quiet heat pump"
The compressor in our last unit had picked up an harmonic that caused the outside unit to rattle where it could be heard at the end of the block. I decided to change it and found the Coleman unit to run quietly and keep the house very comfortable. The $295 for 10 years parts and labor coverage seemed as cheap insurance. I am hoping that it won't be needed, but the Ruud that it replaced needed a compressor and although the compressor was covered the labor was going to be greater than $500. Although I would liked to have waited a year or two before giving a raving review of the Coleman system. I have had an excellent experience with RS Mechanical of Garner, NC and would recommend them to any one who is looking to have a unit replaced in central NC.

I just had a Coleman heat pump installed and I love how quiet it is.
Other LX Reviews
Comments on hvac-talk.com state that the LX is a good lower-end unit, but not up to the likes of Carrier and Trane. A consumer on doityourself.com was not getting enough hot air from his Coleman LX until he bypassed the thermostat, which led most members to comment that it is a thermostat wiring problem and not a problem with the unit.
Product registration is required within 90 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Coleman LX heat pump is comprised of the following:
- 5-year warranty on parts
- 10-year warranty on the compressor
