"Coleman heat pump and furnace, great Install"
The equipment is well built and operates efficiently in terms of gas use for the back up furnace and electricity for the heat pump. It is quiet and delivers improved air circulation compared to my old system. The upstairs temperature now more closely matches the temperature downstairs. Prior to this installation the upstairs was 3-4 degrees different than the downstairs. Now the difference is 0-2 degrees. The time to change temperature in the house is faster than with my old system. From temperature set range min/max to target temperature takes 10 minutes to heat and 20 minutes to cool. The only problem we had with the installation was the outside temperature sensor. The wire run was too long for a thermostat wire, so the contractor installed a wireless system with works well. So far, we are very happy with the new heat pump and back up gas furnace.

"I give my heat pump 5 stars"
My heat pump was installed just three short months ago, but I'm already in love. This heat pump has saved me over $50 per month in heating costs. I control the heat pump through a WiFi enabled thermostat, and it works flawlessly. What is so strange to me is that the air feels cool coming from the vents, but the home stays warm. I only have one small complaint about my heat pump, and that is the time it takes to raise the temperature in the house. If I leave, I set my unit on "away", meaning my heat pump will not turn on until the temperature in the house is 68 degrees. When I return home, I turn my thermostat to the "home" function. When I am home, I like the temperature to be around 72 degrees. For my heat pump to heat the home those 4 degrees, it takes around an hour or more. If I set it to electric heat, my home is heated much quicker. This is just a small complaint, but I can live with the time it takes to heat the home with the heat pump if it saves me money monthly. I have suggested the heat pump to all of my friends and family that are looking to upgrade from the standard heat strip units. Two of them have already upgraded, and they are absolutely in love. If given the option, I would definitely purchase this brand again as I haven't had a single issue with it thus far.

"Review of my Echelon Series Heat Pump and the quality and service it provides."
I have owned this heat pump for a little over a year. It works very well and it does get the job done. The quality of this product exceeds dramatically. I have never seen a heat pump that works as well as this one. The customer service is decent, not too much to complain about there. The only problem with this heat pump is the price! The price was extremely outrageous! If you are looking for amazing quality, this would be the heat pump to go with, but if you are looking for something affordable, this heat pump is not for you. I have never needed any work done with it or any repairs so far, so the quality after about a year is still as good as when I bought it about a year ago. Since the quality is so amazing, I would definitely recommend purchasing this heat pump, if you can afford it anyway.

"Coleman Echelon Heat Pump is the Best I Used"
I have owned the Coleman Echelon pump for about a year now. My old one quit working so I had to replace it. I searched around and this pump had great reviews. When I got it much to my surprise it was very easy to install and get going. This was a huge plus for me. I love when new products aren't complicated. It has worked perfect for the year that I've owned it. Being a Coleman brand, I knew it would be a quality product and so far it has stood the test of time. The only thing I did not like about it was the price. The price is a little on the expensive side. I will say this though, if you want quality results you need to buy quality products and spend a little more to get good quality. So far, I love it and would recommend this to anyone looking to get a high quality heat pump

"Always another grand"
Was great the first 3 years, other than the horrible noise from the condenser fan. Finally, at the start of the 4th year, the ECM controlled condenser fan motor and ECM went out. Surprised me that there was no warranty. 4 months later in the midst of August (hot) the compressor goes out. They say it was warranted for almost another $1000. That system should last twice that long without any problems. They say there were no warranty cards registered, that is the reason for the warranty problem. I never got a confirmation and that's what they require. Lesson learned.

What a difference this new unit makes! I went from constantly adjusting settings and vents just to be comfortable and now am cozy all the time with no effort! If it lasts near as long as my Coleman cooler, I will be a happy camper lol.

"Satisfaction with our Coleman"
This is our 3rd Coleman heat pump system. We went to a larger unit with a 2-stage blower for more efficiency in our home. We are very happy with our new system and extremely satisfied with the contractor that installed our new system and that keeps the system working with yearly maintenance. I am hoping this system will last us another 15 years like the previous one.

"Excellent system"
Our 27-year-old furnace went belly-up in the winter after we arrived home from a trip - we walked into a very cold house. Tip - don't baby an old furnace, replace it after 20-plus years. Our summers are progressively warmer for longer periods so we had been thinking of air conditioning. Our installer recommended a Coleman Echelon 8C heat pump/furnace combination with an upgraded Honeywell touch screen thermostat, and so far the system works very well in summer and winter. We have a two story house, with a cold air return on the first floor. Our upstairs gets very hot in the summer, so I installed AtticFoil in the house attic and garage attic and the temperature difference now is within 6 degrees between floors, allowing the air conditioning unit to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the house. I highly recommend AtticFoil too - it's cheaper than adding a cold air return on the upper floor.

"Must have got a lemon!"
I've had my Coleman heat pump for 5 years and it has a 10-year warranty. In that time I've replaced 2 inside fan motors, 2 fan control boards, and 1 outside fan motor. The first board was replaced by my installer for free, including labor, since it was in the first year and a half of operation. I could live with that, but when it was 4 years old the inside motor went out again. A year later (this year) the control board and fan were replaced again, along with the outside motor. So far, that's 3 motors and 2 boards. I emailed Coleman and the only response I got was asking for my serial and model numbers which, I might add, were supplied in the very first email. I supplied them again with the model and serial and 2 or 3 more emails but never got a response back. It's a bad product and bad customer service. Why anyone would want to buy a product from them is beyond me. I made a mistake. Don't do the same. Stay away.

"Breaks down every year"
The heat pump breaks down every year at the start of the heating season. It's been 5 weeks now and the part I need is on back order again. The extra money I spent to save on LP has been a waste. I kick myself for not buying a Lennox. It would have cost me more for the unit, but it would have been worth it to not buy a Coleman. Coleman=junk.

"Coleman heat pump"
I recently installed an Echelon Coleman heat pump in my house. I was extremely pleased with X-treme Heating and Air and the quality of professionalism that they gave. This heat pump is ten times better than my old unit and I would recommend this product to anyone. I also love the warranty that is available, it gave me piece of mind in the decision-making process. My old unit was very loud and I could tell it was on all the time. However, with this new Coleman unit, I cannot hear it running and the cooling is exceptional.

Review:
"VERY DISAPPOINTED"
This is to the people who say that poor installation is the problem. Although I do agree that poor installation causes many problems, but Coleman is also responsible for that. If you entrust your brand to anyone, expect people to blame you if the system goes down. My parents had their Coleman system installed 4 years ago and during the worst winter we've had since they bought the system, it fails. This year is the first year that is has been consistently cold from the start. Yes the system was running a lot this winter but they did not purchase a "top of the line" system for when it's 60 degrees outside. Now we have to pay for shipping of the product and labor. If my parents didn't spend a ton of money for the system and to have it installed, I wouldn't be so upset. They didn't go cheap, they never do when it comes to their house. I'm sorry for the person who lost their job because of bad Coleman reviews. But please, please do not blame us when we are putting out hundreds and even thousands of dollars to get a brand new or fairly new system repaired. Coleman is allowing anyone to install their products yet they do not want to take any responsibility for labor which is usually the most expensive part of repairs. In the end, it is their product and they should take some responsibility.

"No Problems with my Coleman"
Purchased 6 years ago. Power went down $50 (.05/kw budget bill was $171 per month). Ac uses less power than Neptune dryer. If < 30 degrees snow catches in grill, spray with deicer (glycerin) to stop ice build up. Outside box is real quiet compared to other neighbors cheap units. If in colder area you need gas for inside coils use a lot of power and gets expensive. Replaced Carrier for Coleman due to space. No regrets. Having good HVAC techs with maintenance contract (entek) makes for reliability all the time.

"Ease of Installation"
I'm a contractor in South Carolina. I'm here to tell you I have flip-flopped around with various brands but I am sticking with this one. Name recognition, high quality, awesome tech support, ease of installation, and the best extended warranty on the market by far. My employees love installing them and all of my customers are pleased with this product. My advice?? Hire a competent contractor and get the comfort plan!

Review:
"Bad Installations"
I am here to give my review of Coleman products as an installing contractor. My company has installed American Standard, Trane, Rheem, Amana, Goodman and Bryant. We have settled with Coleman and install this brand 98% of the time. We like Coleman because of the small amount of warranty call backs, impressive equipment features and distributor support. I am here today because I lost a job due to bad reviews of the Coleman product here on this site. While going over the bad reviews its apparent that 90% of them are due to bad installations (this goes for every major brand.) Since I have been installing all kinds of hvac equipment for years and years I can tell by the descriptions. Aside from the leaky coil claims I feel confident that nearly all other problems are from poor installation practices. My company has installed over 1000 Coleman heat pumps and we have had less warranty compressor replacements and coil leaks than any other brand we've sold in the past. Think of this: Why would Coleman offer an unheard of lifetime compressor warranty if they had to constantly replace them? Also, the same Scroll compressors are used throughout the industry in just about every major manufacturer. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee backed by Coleman. This means that if the customer is not satisfied with the new system they get a full refund. In our years installing Coleman we have never once had to file such a claim. You must screen your contractor. Stop obsessing over equipment brand and reviews, you are only wasting your time and ultimately shooting yourself in the foot. Its time wasted that you could have been screening the best contractor to do your job. Make sure they know what they are talking about. Make sure they do a load calculation on your home. Make them provide references and testimonials. Make them show you pictures of their work, even a laymen can see the warning signs of a bad installation in a picture. The reason why some major brands have higher reviews that others is because of contractor screening. Brands like Trane, which is top rated, put their dealers through a rigorous screening process to make sure they are going to represent the brand properly (I.E. do quality work and minimize name tarnish.) So there you have it folks, an un-biased professional opinion. I have nothing to gain from this except the peace of mind that I may have been helpful to someone making a home investment or that I helped to educate someone who had a poor installation. All in all it doesn't really matter which major brand you go with, just make sure you have the right person to do the job. Remember, lower is not better. Don't be enticed by a super low bid, you may pay for it later.

"Good Performance"
Top of the line model hc8b was installed back in December, and it's been running like a champ. I've set the balance point to 25f to minimize turning on my oil furnace / back-up heat. At 18f, the hc8b was cycling off/on with no need for oil backup = good. The hc8b features a Copeland scroll compressor. My contractor retrofitted my furnace blower with an evergreen motor = more efficient than a psc motor. I did have an issue with excessive defrost cycles. I researched this and brought it to the attention of my contractor. He promptly installed an updated defrost control board supplied by Coleman/York. Problem solved. Compared to my old = inefficient HP at equivalent outside temps, my Kwh/day consumption with this new HC8B in place is 46% less. I'm impressed. Two things that seem to make a difference with customer satisfaction: Be picky about choosing your installer/contractor, and provide detailed communication to your contractor if there is a problem. Odds are when you do that, it will be fixed quickly, and minimize contractor call-backs, = wasted time for you and the contractor.

From what I read coils are leaking. I paid 12000$ for this and my ruud unit I had ran with no service calls for 10 years should have put same brand in not this Coleman Echelon ...

"Quality of my Coleman heat pump"
First of all, let me start off by saying that I live in the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana area. This area has very harsh winters, and with very harsh winters, you need a very reliable heat pump. For years, I was trying to get a heat pump that didn't always break down, and I was on the brink of giving up until about three years ago, when I bought my Coleman Echelon hc8b. I can easily say that this was one of the best purchases I've ever made; this heat pump is not only extremely reliable, but it makes very little noise, and it actually has a relatively nice appearance. It's a modern looking, metallic, and all around beautiful piece of machinery. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this heat pump, and I have not had to repair or replace it once. If you are buying a new heat pump, and you need one that is reliable, makes little noise, and is attractive, I strongly encourage you to buy the Coleman Echelon hc8b.

"Coleman makes good heat pumps!"
I have owned this heat pump about 6 months now and I have to say that it has been a very good purchase. I got it last summer because the old Coleman heat pump stopped working and we needed a new one right away. Some things that I like about this Coleman heat pump is the price is pretty good and it seems to be working flawlessly. Some things that I dont like about it is that it is loud and gives off an odor. I have never had to repair it or replace it yet, and I hope that I won't have to in the near future. I think that I would buy the same brand again and I would for sure recommend it to a friend. It is a very good heat pump so I definatly give it a good review and I will continue to buy Coleman products in the future.

"Echelon 5T"
I purchased a 15 seer 5 ton Coleman Echelon heat pump. There is every bell and whistle on this equipment and it all works very well. I highly recommend that you have these units installed by a professional! These units must be programmed to operate correctly, and they are programmed after the installer surveys the heating/cooling area. The Coleman replaced the old Carrier unit I had due to a space limitation. For the money I highly recommend Coleman (Same as York). I got the 15 seer because that is the top top point on a graph for savings. My neighbors have a Goodman and the compressor outside is so loud. This Coleman is nice and quiet. I am using 40% less power now compared to last year. Don't get Carrier wrong either, that unit was 24 years old!

Other Echelon Reviews

When asked by a consumer to choose between a Coleman LX series or the Coleman Echelon, most who commented on hvac-talk.com chose the Echelon. Comments on gardenweb.com describe the similarities between the York Affinity and the Echelon, calling them internally identical.

Echelon Warranty

The Coleman Echelon comes with a standard 10-year warranty on parts and the compressor. The unit must be registered online within 90 days of installation, otherwise the parts warranty reverts to a 5-year limited parts warranty. Other warranty plans can be purchased separately.
