Overview of the 25HPA Performance
The Carrier 25HPA Performance heat pump offers up to 17 SEER and 9.7 HSPF, depending on the specific model, for commercial and residential heating and cooling applications. This Energy Star-approved model uses Puron refrigerant and is available in 1.5- to 5-ton units.
The 25HPA is promoted by the manufacturer for its soft operation, with noise levels as low as 68 decibels. A sound-suppressing compressor blanket, external silencer muffler, mounted compressor and PCS fan motor help keep the noise to a minimum. Additional components include a single- or two-stage scroll compressor (again, depending on the model), filter drier, defrost system and diagnostics capabilities.
The heat pump’s interior components are protected by a galvanized steel cabinet, while a steel louver guard protects the coils from environmental hazards. Color-matched screws and a baked on powder paint finish are intended to help the unit maintain an attractive exterior.

"Carrier Model 25HPA is junk!"
I bought this unit because we had heard Carrier had a good reputation. Boy, were we wrong! The compressor burned out after 2 weeks, new compressor was installed it burned out 3 months later! We've had over a dozen service calls in the 3 years we've owned it! It's out again as I type. The service people have no idea how to fix it! Warning: Don't buy this from Carrier, it looks good but its junk! Goes out all the time!

"Trouble from the start and terrible customer service"
Have had this unit for 7 years and it has been a problem the entire time. These things should last 20-30 years! It cuts off with high pressure cutoff code a few times a year. After a few years of the same problems I contacted Carrier and asked what they could do about it because I felt I had a lemon. They were rude and inflexible, saying they couldn't do anything. After spending $8,000 to install this system 7 years ago, I find it appalling that they won't stand by their product - this is not a cheap system. I have paid $250-500 a year to maintain this thing and the most recent technician is saying this brand is known for having bad compressors and wants to charge me $1,200 for the labor and materials to change it (compressor is still under warranty, so it would presumably be free). I'm fed up and will replace it with a trane (currently quoted at $2,600 for 2 ton 13 seer condensor).

"Very poor unit"
My unit is 30 months old and is the top of the line 2 stage Performance. I just had the a coil changed due to leaking. 1st day to check it out it cost $227.00 and 2nd day to install the A-Coil cost $400.00. I called Carrier customer service and they were no help and said to talk to the service company. They only warranty the parts. I told them I will never buy another Carrier after spending $627.00 in 30 months.

"Performance 16 Junk"
The literature said that the unit was quiet. Evidently it didn't mean when the outside temperature goes 32 degrees and below. It makes so much noise that the neighbor complained. When it cycles, the noise goes throughout the house with a screeching sound. Had the company work on it, but they haven't been able to eliminate the noise. Never would have brought this machine. It's the last Carrier product we will ever buy.

I bought Carrier because I thought they had a good reputation. I wish I would have done more homework. This unit is junk! Three-years old and already burned up two compressors.
