Overview of the 25HBB3
The Carrier 25HBB3 is a discontinued heat pump with an efficiency of 13 SEER and 7.7-8.3 HSPF. The unit had a durable scroll compressor and used environmentally sound Puron refrigerant. The system was protected by an internal pressure relief valve, a high pressure switch, a loss of charge switch, and a filter drier. The 25HBB3 offered operating sound levels as low as 72 decibels, and an accessory sound blanket reduced levels to 70 decibels. A WeatherArmor protection package featured a galvanized steel heavy-duty wire coil cabinet with a powder coat finish to protect the unit from weather hazards.

I had a Carrier base series indoor and outdoor heat pump put in 3 years ago. 3 weeks later, bad blower motor. I had to pay overnight shipping and it still took 3 days to get it from Maryland to Virginia. 3 weeks. That is pathetic. I have also had the pos Bristol compressor replaced under warranty. It is the most over-priced, cheapest-made piece of garbage on the market. It brings up the rear with Lennox and York. Out of the three, they are all a joke, but I would try the others before I ever purchased another Carrier unit with the chicken wire grill. Absolute joke.

"Don't Buy Carrier"
Paid $9,000.00 for an Infinity series heat pump which was installed in July of 2006. It's July 1, 2013 and 100 degrees and no air conditioning again. Will be on our third compressor install since we bought it. Fortunately we bought a 10 year parts and labor warranty. Our HVAC contractor is great but Carrier isn't. They won't install a complete new compressor unit and insist on putting back in the Bristol compressor which is the problem. Don't buy Carrier - they don't back their products and won't admit they have a problem even though our contractor says they have a big one and know it.

"Please Don't Buy Carrier"
The property is only 2 years old and we have to replace 10 compressors already. They are warrantied for five years but the labor is expensive.

"Carrier Heat Pump"
The unit was installed only 4 years ago. Already the copper coils have corroded and must be replaced. The parts are still under warranty but the work costs $800 dollars. It seems that Carrier has gone with poor quality copper coils produced in China that corrode quickly, as opposed to aluminum that are much longer lasting. There certainly should not be this kind of repair necessary in such a short time!
Other 25HBB3 Reviews
A homeowner on hvac-talk.com found out that he had the 25HBB3 installed instead of the higher performance unit he thought was installed. The homeowner was satisfied with the 25HBB3 except for the noise level in heat mode. A homeowner on the same site asked for comparisons between the 25HBB3 and a Rheem unit and was told that the 25HBB3 is a good unit but the Rheem has better coil protection. Another homeowner on doityourself.com had a unit that was running but the temperature would not go up or down, no solution was found by the end of the thread.
