Absolute Disaster

Our York YP9C furnace was installed in October 2013. It broke down 3 times in the first 6 weeks! Since then, it has broken down at least 2 times each and every winter. So many parts have been replaced on this thing, many due to moisture issues, that I've lost count. Circuit boards, flame sensors, gas valves, you name it. The total cost of repairs has now exceeded the cost of the furnace, including installation! If not for the 10-year warranty and the extended service plan I buy from my local dealer every year, I'd be broke. I hate this furnace, I do not trust it, and it needs to go before next winter. Our York central ac unit is fantastic, never a problem. Do not buy a York YP9C!!!!!

Good Unit - Few Issues

Purchased a new "Scratch and Dent" unit 8 years ago which had been damaged during shipment to the supplier. After straightening out the cabinet, worked without repair. Very quiet and had few issues except for the condensate pan (clear plastic) which had leaked for some time. I later learned this is a common issue amount owners. The replacement part is made of black plastic which should be more durable and reliable. I was able to purchase the part on the internet and complete the repair myself in less than two hours.

Poor Quality! Not Recommended!

Poor Quality! Not Recommended! I bought York Model No. Yp9c080 98% efficiency furnace in July 2014. The heater failed twice. The first failure occurred in 2016! It was no heat. Changed a sensor after spent around cad$300.00. In Nov 2018, the furnace malfunction again, no heat at all! I am very disappointed by the furnace quality.

Lemon Furnace, Awful Service

I wouldn't recommend this furnace to my enemy, or the York brand to anyone. The Flame Sensor needs to be cleaned which shuts down the heat, the door interlock switch needs replacing yearly which shuts down the heat. My Affinity furnace has had an error code since I moved into the house. When a warranty issue comes up, the service company tried to tell me that my warranty wasn't transferable and that I would have to cover the $1400 for the main board and replacement thermistor. When York was informed that their warranty contractor was trying to charge me $1400, they did nothing. Only Mastergroup was honest with me. The only thing you should consider when purchasing a York furnace is how much extended warranty, and labor included you can purchase. Once my warranty is done and this thing fails again, I will never purchase a York product or have a York product in any of my houses again.

Don't Buy this Furnace

Furnace installed in Dec. 2013. Replaced wiring and circuit board in year 4 due to condensate damage. Went to start furnace for 2018 heating season, would not start. Replaced GAs switch and wiring (due to moisture again), worked for a couple of days, and now it's not working again. Although parts are under warranty, shipping and labor are not. Would not recommend another York product based on this experience.

Nothing but trouble

This furnace falls into the "lemon" category. I've had just about every part replaced, and some twice in 10 years. The first year or two, it ran fine. But, every winter it breaks down on the first below-freezing night. It's literally like clockwork that it breaks down. Now, the blower motor has gone out. This is the second time. Next week, I'm having a different furnace put in.

Water from black tubing connector hub

Had a more deluxe model installed with the variable motor but within a few days the bearings on the motor went out and unit vibrated and grinded horribly. Got a new simpler replacement unit reinstalled which has worked for the 6 years ( although house was vacant for four) until suddenly during cold snap this week which required regular heating, a steady water drip out of the black plastic box pipe in the lower panel of the 9.c in the right upper corner developed. Easily 2 gallons a day. Set up a tube to divert. I thought I had seen it all. Where could all this water be coming from in this propane furnace? Is that amount of water formed with propane combustion? Ch8- o2. Why hasn't this been diverted with a hose? Did installer forget? Is there a valve that is stuck? These damn units have become too complex and unreliable. Would rather go back to wood stove.

Nothing but headache

I bought my furnace Affinity ypc 9c March 12, 2010 The board has been replaced twice during the first year. The furnace performed well until January 3, 2016 when the sensors were cleanup. Now my comment will match what other owners wrote when year 7 is rolling. January 1, 2017 Blower failure. 01/06/17 new pressure sensor, new thermositor June 22, 2017 new gas valve. 09/08/17 cleaned sensor drain water from several hoses. September 30, 2017 Drain water from several hoses realigned drainage pipes. November 26, 2017 Drain water from hoses, installed 2 new switch pressure air, it did not make any difference. Technician with his mouth blow air in old pressure air and reinstall them, referring me to another outfit. Two hours later the hot air is flowing again in my house.

Owned it now for almost six years. In that time it is used only about six months a year and I have replaced controls and Igniter and now faced with replacing the heat exchanger. The company that installed does not deal in York anymore because of all the warranty issues-does that tell you something! Save your money or put a little aside to go to small claims court and put York's feet to the fire.

Quiet, responsive.

I've only had the unit for about a month, haven't actually compared before/after bills, but it's quiet, and it does warm my condo in a timely manner. I never notice it running, but I can feel the heat start right away. Because I chose a better furnace than my contractor suggested, the rebates should cover two winter's heat, at least.

Best Furnace we ever bought!

We had to replace an outdated ge furnace that was about 34 years old. The team at Harmony Heating in Rockway, New Jersey were outstanding in recommending a replacement furnace that had a high energy efficiency. We are extremely satisfied with the York Furnace.

Unreliable and not satisifed

Purchased 6 years ago and was not told of registration for 10-year warranty. Yearly maintenance service calls each costing $100.00. Needed a new motor (covered on 5-year warranty) and new gas valve which was out of warranty and cost $800. Contacted York and received no co-operation or consideration. Will never purchase York products again!

Goodwill warranty not

Although it was my fault for not registering my warranty within 90 days to be eligible for the 10 year warranty, this unit has been plagued with problems. Recent major failure (main board) and no goodwill warranty considerations! Furnace was 4 months and 5 years past installation date but still within the 5 years of ownership. Would have thought they might stand behind their product and consumers with some kind of goodwill warranty but not a chance! In fact, they took a matter of minutes to reply too bad for you! Personally, I will never buy any product from York or Johnson Controls ever again.

Piece of Junk

Moved into this house with existing (top of the line) York furnace less than 2 years ago. Have had a half dozen service calls already for heat problems. Could have bought a brand new furnace with what we've already paid out in service calls. Bottom line...Want a major headache? Buy a York furnace.

Great furnace

Great furnace - quiet, heats my home quickly. I have an older home so the furnace had its fair share of workouts during the colder days during winter but maintained a nice temperature. I would buy this brand again in the future.

Working Just Fine

Seems to work just fine. I can't say much else, other than it hasn't given us any problems since it was installed a few months ago. Let's hope for many more years to come. Best part is we're saving on heating costs by moving from electric to the gas furnace.

Happy customer

We are very happy with York 98% energy efficient furnaces and also installed iaq (indoor air quality) uv light and iaq high density filter to breathe the cleanest air possible. The service was provided by Proair Heating & Cooling and they are very reliable. Great product with amazing service, the best combination you can get.

Other Affinity YP9C Reviews

Comments in online forums regarding the Affinity YP9C appear to be mostly positive. A consumer on trying to choose between two York furnaces was told that the YP9C is better because it is a modulation unit, but both are good furnaces. On the same site, a post from a homeowner asking for opinions between the Affinity YP9C and a comparable Lennox unit found replies favoring the YP9C.

Affinity YP9C Warranty

Product registration is required within 90 days for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the York Affinity YP9C furnace is comprised of the following:

  • Complete Assurance Warranty Pledge, stating that if the heat exchange fails within 10 years of installation, the company provides optional furnace replacement in lieu of heat exchanger replacement
  • Limited lifetime heat exchanger warranty
  • 10-year limited parts warranty

If not registered within 90 days, the parts warranty reverts from 10 to 5 years and the heat exchanger warranty reverts to a 20-year limited warranty. Labor and shipping costs are not covered by the warranty.
