Overview of Affinity 8.S

The York Affinity 8.S is a discontinued single-stage gas furnace with an efficiency of 80.0% AFUE. A hot surface ignition improved efficiency, and an insulated blower compartment provided increased noise reduction. The 8.S had a tubular aluminized steel heat exchanger and an induced combustion system with inshot main burners. A built-in self-diagnostics module with fault code display helped monitor system operation. The compact 40-inch cabinet allowed for installation in smaller areas. The Affininity 8.S furnace was part of the York Affinity series.

NIGHTMARE, utter and complete horror

7 years ago we had this piece of crap installed to replace a 50-year old furnace that worked, but when one part finally broke, we could not get a replacement. Were sold on this, as well as a Trane air filter and a whole house humidifier (absolutely necessary with these HEs because they take all the humidity out of the air), because of the great air cleaning (so called) and the so called warranty. Installation didn't go well - it's that condensation piping problem - we don't have a basement, we have a crawl space, so they put a pipe to drain the furnace condensation - gallons of it a day - into the crawlspace.....what they didn't tell us what that they just put it under there, no where near the sump pump. So we had back up, flooding, mold problems, you name it, I can't even remember all the problems in this horror show. We ended up with teeny flexible tubing running up the wall, around the ceiling, into the laundry tub - I kid you not. The unit flooded itself and our floor. It was all rusted out before the end of the first season. We'd had the installers out at least once a week, sometimes every other day, the first season. And no heat most of the time. The thermostat was replaced 5 times so far, it has never worked, no matter what kind they bring. We tried to contact Trane, with the installer telling us "they'll maybe not make you pay for a new circuit board" - and after 2 years, we got one. By then, 2 years in, we'd spent hundreds, almost a thou, on things not covered by warranty. It just kept getting worse. Not a single winter without the thing not being able to go on, at the start of season......we get more things and more things replaced, do without heat most of the time, eventually they rig something to make the piece of crap "work". OH - Here's the good part: the whole house humidifier has NEVER WORKED. NOT FOR ONE HOUR. As for the "air filter" - HA. It has also NEVER WORKED. Even after duct cleaning, our house is dustier than ever, since being suckered into buying a YORK. The humidity goes to almost nothing when it does work in between repair visits. So we had to buy multiple humidifiers for various parts of the house, and pay for distilled water for them, and you can imagine how that just adds to the ambiance of your home, these boxy noisy humidifiers all over the place......and then there is the time we have to spend cleaning them. What a joy YORK has been for us. I'd rather have NO FURNACE AT ALL - what would the difference be? SO now it is year 7 and the gas ignition thing is broke - rusted out like the rest of the thing. We're getting bids. After 7 years of utter nightmare. And whatever we get, it won't have ANYTHING to do with YORK, or JOHNSON CONTROLS, which owns that crappy rip off scam company.

Other Affinity 8.S Reviews

There are very few online reviews of the Affinity 8.S. On, a homeowner had a unit which shut down with 7 LED flashes, indicating a 'lockout with multiple retries'. He was advised to clean the flame rod, which solved the problem.

Question and Answer

What does four flashing red lights indicate on a York Affinity 8.S furnace?

Four red flashes indicates that a high-limit switch is open. This can be caused by something restricting airflow, such as a dirty air filter or a problem with the ductwork, as well as a problem with the control board or the blower motor.

Has a flashing red light

Red light flashes are usually a diagnostic codes. Count the flashes before a pause. On the inside of the door panel is usually a chart for the codes. The reason it wont come on is it is probably in a lock out for a safety failure (non-ignition, vent failure, over heating due to bad blower motor, ect.). If you turn off power the codes are usually lost and resets the board. Cycling power may get you heat but first you need to determine this cause of failure or it will happen again. Please seek a professional for repairs.
