Overview of the XE80

The Trane XE80 is a single-stage gas furnace that provide an 80% AFUE rating. The XE80 features an insulated steel cabinet designed for heat retention and quiet operation. It also offers induction venting and a preheat stage, which heats the exchanger before moving air through the house. The XE80 has an adaptive hot surface silicon nitride igniter intended to be safer and more efficient than a pilot light, and the self-diagnostic controls are designed to shut down the unit if a problem arises.

"Loud and Proud! My furnace"
I acquired my furnace along with my house when I purchased it six years ago. So, no telling how old it actually is. As I explain the rest of this, I am loudly knocking on wood! However, 90% of what I look for in a furnace is for it to keep me and my wife nice and warm during the harsh Ohio winter months and my furnace does that and has not let us down yet. When it kicks on, I feel like the neighbors can probably hear it. But, the noise only lasts a few minutes and then it runs smoothly while keeping us warm. We have not yet had any repairs on it, despite its clunky start up. We are considering having someone out to just do some preventative maintenance. The furnace is in a closet in my basement and is pretty compact in size. I am no furnace expert, but for us, it is out of the way, doesn't take up a ton of space, and keeps us warm. For that, we can live with the loud start up and we would definitely buy a Trane again.

"Piece of Junk"
I replace my 40 year old furnace in 1999 with a Trane. While I never had a problem with the old one, I constantly have to repair the Trane. Parts are hard to come by because of their "exclusive" distributorship arrangements. I would never buy another Trane product.

"Pretty rockin furnace"
I got a Trane xe80 installed in October of 1998 and to this date have never had a single issue at all. I regularly change the air filter and that's it. It has never broken down not even once. We have yet to have a repair man actually have his hands inside the furnace. For 14 years to date this has been the best buy for a furnace. It is paired with a 1972 Sears central air conditioner and both seem to make a great pair. Condsidering my gas bill is only 60 dollars a month on equalized payments that's great for a 1200 square foot house. When my Trane does need replacing, I would definitely get another Trane. I wanted to write this review because I always see negative reviews. But this one is positive and I recommend it.

"Trane XE80"
Trane xe80 is one expensive furnace! It has a "hot surface direct ignition device", which means there is no pilot light that you can light manually. a service call to diagnose why the gas burners do not light costs approx. $100. If the gas sensor device is the problem, then that will cost an additional $520! Ridiculous, considering the furnace is only 10 years old!

"Trane quality"
I have replaced the igniter on my xe80 furnace twice since owning it. The first one lasted only 2 years. Second one lasted 4 years. So far no need to replace the last one. Overall, am satisfied.
