York Affinity Furnace Overview

York’s Affinity line consists of two gas furnaces: the Affinity YPLC, offering 80% AFUE, and the 98% AFUE Affinity YP9C. Winner of the Consumers Digest “Best Buy” award, the 98% AFUE YP9C is Energy Star rated and has a multi-position configuration.

Both the high-efficiency and base-line unit use a variable speed EMC blower motor for quiet, efficient operation and a modulating design that constantly adjusts heating levels for maximum comfort.

Additional components of the Affinity series include: reinforced cabinets, gasket doors, and York’s Climatrak Comfort System, a feature that customizes operation to the conditions of any region. With its compact 33-inch height, the Affinity series can also fit into tight spots around the home.

Along with the current YPLC and YP9C series, there are several discontinued series in the Affinity furnace line, including the Affinity 8.S, with an efficiency of 80% AFUE; Affinity 8.V, also offering an efficiency of 80% AFUE; Affinity 9V, with a 92% AFUE; and the Affinity 8.T.

"Never again, a total waste of money"

1.0 rating

We have had a complete new system installed in our home in 2010, 2 zoned furnaces. The upstairs unit has problems every cooling season, the downstairs one every winter. So, since the upstairs one is a different York model, I’ll write about that one separately. From season one, the downstairs furnace has been failing each heating season once or twice, as the pressure switches fail regularly. The installer company had to come out and replace these and then other electronic components each season, but the failures continue. Every time, it costs me about $200 – $250 in diagnostic fees. This is supposed to be the best furnace one can have? I don’t think so. It is a lemon. At that time, York’s warranty was only five years, now it’s ten. So now that I’m out of warranty for parts, repairs will cost me 350 to 400 bucks each time at least, basically twice per heating season on average, judging by what has happened so far. I am going to throw this piece of junk out and will replace it with a totally new furnace from another manufacturer. It will save me tons of money in the future, but more importantly, it will save my nerves and give me reliable service, not headaches and a cold home for days while they schedule repair service! Stay away from York. Look at the pattern: for every happy customer, there are three unhappy ones! You have been warned!

"York Affinity is junk"

Bought 2 Affinity systems. The first one failed with 2 weeks, had to replace the control board. Then in the spring the AC failed, a bad TXV. The second unit keeps failing, the AC. Called York supplier in Philadelphia and he says they have a problem with compressors. The units are junk; think about getting replacements from another manufacturer. Very disappointed.

"Blissful comfort"

Had the York modulating furnace installed and couldn’t be happier. It replaced a single stage 91 percent Armstrong which was working fine but we didn’t like the temperature swings that come with a single stage. This York furnace does an amazing job at keeping a moderate temperature without cooking the house first then waiting for it to cool down before turning on again. We have installed it with the Honeywell Lyric thermostat and it works perfectly, as the modulating gas valve is controlled by the furnace. It simply needs a single stage thermostat to tell it the temperature that you want. It also works great with our steam humidifier, circulating the air as needed.

I replaced an 80% efficient Trane with this Affinity 98% efficient furnace. I couldn’t be happier. The modulating gas valve will modulate the heating up and down depending on the need in the house. It helps maintain a much more comfortable temperature in my home year round.

I like the even, comfortable heat we get with our new York furnace. The salesman said we would be more comfortable and we sure are. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a furnace.
