Reviews by Furnace Series

Furnace overview

Heil sells both gas and oil furnaces. However, gas furnaces offer the highest energy efficiency and, according to Scientific American, are less expensive to operate than oil. Therefore, we are focusing on the company’s gas furnaces, especially since only about 6% of homes are heated with oil.

A gas furnace works by heating air with gas and distributing the hot air throughout the home with a blower. If you buy a new furnace, you can expect it to last for 15 to 20 years.

Heil furnaces series and models

Heil has three series of furnaces: Ion, QuietComfort, and Performance. We outline five models below. Each model is a gas furnace that hooks up to a home’s air ducts and distributes warm air to connected rooms.

QuietComfort Deluxe 96 Gas Furnace (G9MVE)

Furnace features

This furnace has a variable-speed blower, and select models are Energy Star qualified. The modulating speed allows the furnace to regulate the amount of energy it uses, saving you money on heating bills. The furnace also comes with an air purifier and a dehumidifier for better air quality inside your home. Furthermore, the furnace connects to Wi-Fi, so you can control it through the Observer wall control.

Technical specs

This furnace has a heating capacity between 60,000 and 120,000 BTUh. It measures between 35 x 14 3/16 x 29 1/2 inches and 35 x 24 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches. Its shipping weight ranges from 121 to 190 pounds.

Efficiency ratings

The AFUE rating for this furnace goes up to 96.5%, which is one of the highest in the Heil lineup.

This unit costs about $1,650 by itself, amounting to an estimated $3,250 with installation. Many factors can affect pricing, such as the size of your home, the difficulty of installation, and the efficiency rating. For the most accurate estimate, contact a local HVAC professional.

QuietComfort 96 Gas Furnace (G9MXT)

Furnace features

This furnace runs using a two-stage motor and a multi-speed blower, so it can modulate the amount of power it uses to heat your home, saving you money on energy bills. It can also be combined with a heat pump to save on heating costs during the winter. It boasts a quieter operation than some other Heil furnaces.

Technical specs

This furnace offers a heating capacity of between 40,000 and 120,000 BTUh, depending on the model. Its measurements range from 35 x 14 3/16 x 29 1/2 inches to 35 x 24 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches and its shipping weight ranges from 125 to 195 pounds.

AFUE rating

This furnace costs about $1,400 for the unit, amounting to around $3,000 with installation.

QuietComfort Deluxe 80 Gas Furnace (G8MVL)

Furnace features

The variable-speed motor and two-stage blower make this furnace one of the more versatile in the Heil lineup. It can control how much energy it uses, which saves you money on heating bills. It’s also quiet and can connect to a heat pump for better energy efficiency in the winter.

Technical specs

This furnace uses between 60,000 and 120,000 BTUh. The dimensions range from 33 1/3 x 14 3/16 x 29 inches to 33 1/3 x 24 1/2 x 29 inches and it weighs between 107 and 163 pounds during shipping.

The furnace costs about $1,150 for the unit, amounting to around $2,500 with installation.

Performance 96 Gas Furnace (N9MSE)

Furnace features

This furnace uses a single-speed motor and fixed-speed blower, so it can’t control its power level as well as some other Heil furnaces. However, it still offers high efficiency, and it’s compatible with a heat pump to save you money during the winter months. It also comes with a humidifier and a purifier to increase your home’s air quality.

Technical specs

The heating capacity of this unit ranges from 26,000 to 140,000 BTUh. The dimensions come in between 35 x 14 3/16 x 29 1/2 inches and 35 x 24 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches and it weighs between 120 and 190 pounds during shipping.

Performance 80 Gas Furnace (N8MSN)

Furnace features

This furnace operates using a single-speed motor and a fixed-speed blower, so it has less modulating capability than some other Heil furnaces. It also has lower efficiency ratings than some other Heil options. However, the furnace is among the least expensive of Heil furnaces.

Technical specs

This furnace has an AFUE rating of up to 80%, which is lower than other Heil units.

This is one of the least expensive Heil options, costing about $900 per unit. With installation, you’ll pay around $3,250.

Care and maintenance

We recommend that you call an HVAC professional to maintain your furnace each year. This maintenance consists of changing the filters, checking for carbon monoxide leaks, and cleaning the coils. Keep debris or other coverings away from your outdoor unit to maintain a healthy airflow.

Heil furnace warranties

Heil offers a 10-year limited warranty on parts and a 20-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger if you register within 90 days of installation. If you fail to register, the warranty drops to five years for parts. Several of the models also offer a lifetime heat exchanger warranty if you register within 90 days. Subsequent owners receive the minimum warranty offered.

"Do not buy Heil!"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Had a Heil furnace and ac unit installed in 2012, it ran fine the first year and after that its been service calls every year. Its been nothing but problems and I wish that I bought something else! Heil is a technician's dream because not only did it cost me a lot of money to have it installed but now I have to keep paying every year, there should be a lemon law! I am looking at replacing all of it once again, don't make the same mistake I did!!! They don't even have my model number on here and I found that my n coil is obsolete and there is no replacement, do everyone a favor and take your crapy product off the market and stop robbing people!!!

I bought an n9mse and halfway into the second heating season, the inducer motor failed. $585 for a new part and $450 for labor. Heil will not stand behind or warranty these units for more than one year because they are cheap garbage. Do not buy!

"Not the Equipment! Watch who you get!"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I'm a icp dealer and hvac Installer with Heil & Aircoaire both in Rockford Illinois! I'm reading a lot these reviews guys it's got to do with a lot of who you have install your equipment. Sizing of your pvc and the distance of feet to the outer wall of your home makes a difference. There are a lot of installers will use the old pvc if it's already there witch is fine if it's what's call for in the manual! But if there is 2 inch inside your home you have to make sure that your on point and it doesn't need 3 inch! Some contractors are lazy will not change it. Then blame it on the product witch is totally wrong! Also on warranty's you have to make sure that your furnace gets registered to get your ten years on parts. Another thing your Installer should tell you! Sometimes a deal isn't such a deal if your getting someone that doesn't half ass to be honest! 80% if your problems are someone being lazy not taking that extra step for your comfort!

"Excellent furnace"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I replaced my 25 year-old furnace a couple weeks ago with a Heil two- stage g(mxt model. I am pleased enough to sit down and write this review. This is an excellent furnace; combined with a four-inch filter attachment and humidifier, my house is very evenly heated and comfortable. The temperature range since the furnace was installed has been from 50 degrees to well-below zero, and the performance has been consistent throughout the range. The furnace is in an insulated enclosure, so is very quiet.

"Heil has been reliable"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

As a distributor selling Heil hvac equipment, we are very satisfied with Heil's performance. The equipment has been reliable, is built well and 100% run tested before leaving the factory. This has been a big part of it becoming our fastest growing line and soon to be our largest line.
