Overview of the PG8MAA
The Payne PG8MAA is a discontinued gas furnace with an efficiency of 80% AFUE. The PG8MAA featured a four-way multipoise design -- upflow, horizontal right, horizontal left, and downflow. It had a four-pass heat exchanger and used a hot surface ignition. A soft-mounted inducer motor reduced vibration noise, while LED diagnostics and a self-test feature monitored furnace operation. The pre-painted cabinet was scratch-resistant for lasting durability.

"Payne is okay"
Our warranty company picked this Payne unit out for us. I assume it was the lowest priced furnace money could buy. It worked fine for 4 years, until the inducer failed. We called our usual HVAC tech and not the original installers. He found the problem in 5 minutes. He picked up the replacement from distribution and installed it effortlessly. The failed part and the replacement is Carrier branded. We only paid for the service call. The part was covered by warranty just by referring to the serial number/date on the main unit. The cash and carry price would have been $390. Perhaps there is an exchange price that I don't know about. This all seems fair.

"Once installed - burner failure"
New install. Right lower burner failure- airleak. Replaced with new burner set and all is well- for now. Supplier noted this is a one in ten problem and not addressed yet from factory. Install 6/17/2011. Unit runs smooth as silk now and like most companys products, once set up correctlt should run without complications. I really hate to FIX new products though.
