Overview of G71P
The Lennox G71P is a (discontinued) variable speed gas furnace made for use in residential settings. It is also known as G71MMP. In 2008, the G71P won the Silver award from the Dealer Design Award Program. It is rated for 95% AFUE and is Energy Star qualified. This furnace may also qualify buyers to a federal tax credit, according to Lennox's product brochure.
Its technology includes a patented steel primary heat exchanger and stainless steel secondary heat exchanger. It is equipped with a variable-capacity gas valve and Lennox's Precise Comfort technology, which the company says controls temperature and airflow in small increments for more efficient use of fuel. The G71P can also be used with an electric heat pump. The Lennox company claims the G71P can save a household up to $1000 on utility costs per year.

Breaks Down every year
Lennox and this furnace in entirely unreliable. Installed in 2008 and
it has broken down every year including the very first year of
install. Numerous blower motors and circuit board have been replaced.
Do not buy Lennox.

Okay until it failed.
This a Lennox g71mpp series, installed about 10 years ago. For the last 5 years the yearly maintenance tech has noticed rust on the primary heat exchanger but wasn't sure why. This year another tech discovered the problem. The secondary heat exchanger was leaking condensate, dripping down on the primary. The part was covered under warranty but not labor. Replacing it was a 6 hour job and $1,200 labor cost. We bought it for it's high efficiency which seemed a responsible thing to do but even setting aside that our gas bill savings will never equal $1,200, the energy required to build and ship a replacement heat exchanger makes for an big picture efficiency loss, not gain. Not at all happy with what seems shoddy design, materials choice or manufacturing process. Shouldn't we expect it to last more than 10 years or is this the current state of us manufacturing?

I had the Lennox G-71 installed in 2008. This is the best furnace I have
owned by far.

Lennox equipment poor quality
We purchased the top of the line Lennox furnace / air handler and have 3
of them in my home. We had to replace one of the coils 2 years after
install and just found out another unit has a leaky coil. Compared to
all of the neighbors in our community who had Goodman low end units
installed at the same time, no one has had this issue. I have
subsequently found out Lennox had to settle a class action law suit as
this issue is so prevalent. It is due to poor workmanship and low cost
metals used in the coil.
I would highly recommend not letting your contractor install a Lennox unit in your home.

I've had this furnace for 6 or 7 years and my house has never been more
comfortable. It runs on low-fire most of the time, but it's not over-
sized. I need the full rate for recovery in the morning, but once the
house warms up I never notice the furnace again. It is super quiet and
because it runs at a low fan speed, I never feel or hear a whoosh of
air coming through the heat registers. It just quietly keeps the
temperature in the house right where it's supposed to be with no
This furnace is very unreliable. It is in its last year of warranty
maybe one more year. A $500 motor went out this year and now something
else is wrong because I have no heat again with an error code 125. My
checkbook and my faith in Lennox is also giving an error code. Never
again. Top of the line efficiency...I don't think so!

Lennox G71P failed third time in four years
Same or similar issue each time. Pressure switch fails. Ironic thing is
that we replaced our nearly 20 year old Heil because we feared it would
fail during the winter. So, for a 4 year old furnace to fail three
times: totally unacceptable. I spent a lot of money and hopefully the
hvac company will replace it for free. I'm probably dreaming but isn't
it their responsibility to fight with Lennox to get their money back? I
have spent enough days/ nights sitting here freezing. I will not ever
buy a Lennox again.

Lennox is junk and the dealer Astar charges for everything.
I paid over $20k for this unit and installation. in the two years i've
had it, I have spent $600. in repair and today is it down again. two
days with no heat. the first time Astar came in to repair it, the tech
broke two light bulbs and said nothing. they left me w/o heat for over a
week. they keep pushing for service (what a joke). Astar charges (too
much in my opinion)for every repair and evaluation at the rate of $100.
per evaluation. they repaired the lennox furnace a month ago and it
isn't working again. they're due here this am to once again repair this
20k piece of junk. It's the g71.

Best furnace on the market. Hands down!!
I bought the g71 modulating furnace 3 years ago and I have never been
happier. Had a Carrier Weathermaker before. My last furnace had problems
every year and was very expensive to fix. And with Carrier having heat
exchanger lawsuits against them, I decided to change. The new g71 is so
quiet, I can't even here the furnace run. It also gives me much better
comfort. More even temperatures through out my 2 storey house. The
company in Chatham (Postma) did a great job. It looks very neat. I
always do my research on products and know that I bought the best
comfort for my family.

Lennox G71MPP 95% AFUE / XC21 20SEER AC
I purchased a new Lennox g71mpp 95% afue furnace with variable speed
motor along with the xc21 20 seer air conditioner last November,
2008. Overall, I'd easily rate this as one of the best purchases I've
ever made. By replacing my old (as in fifty-year-old!)Lennox pulse
furnace, and a twenty-year old AC, I'm not only living in a better,
more comfortable environment, but am also saving well over $200/month
in utilities! Hats off to Lozier Heating & Cooling in West Des

Too Bad People Cant Trust Their Installers
I'm in the middle of a large renovation and am installing a g71 unit in
my home. Old unit is Carrier but not overly happy with it. Possibly some
of the issues are from not having the best installer. But my biggest
rant is all you people who are suckered by bad maintenance companies!!!
Then you slag the equipment!!! Doesn't take much time to investigate a
problem on the web before someone feeds you a huge line of p__p. Wish
everyone paid attention in school. Be a lot less people getting away
with emptying your wallet with a ton of bs. These units, are awesome and
will work for years if you find someone to service it that can be
The G71P is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.
