DO NOT Purchase a HEIL Furnace

We purchased a heil furnace in 2012 and before the warranty was up it needed a gas valve replaced. Within 6 weeks it needed another gas valve replaced and in that 6 weeks the warranty expired. A year later and we are having to have the 3rd gas valve replaced. I've talked to several Heil employees and none of them stand behind their product. They see nothing unusual with it. Gas valves are $500.00 each and along with the service calls it is getting very costly heating our home with the Heil furnace. We lived in our previous home for 30 years and never had 1 service call! I hope this review will save at least one person from going through the frustration and cost involved with a Heil furnace.

Not great equipment

New gas Heil furnace installed in 2006. Condenser pump failed in 2009, exhaust blower failed in 2012, heat exchanger failed in 2103 and it took 4 days to get the part in the dead of winter in January. Have been forced to take out a service agreement to protect myself.

Over 6 months and still can't get parts

The motor in my 7-year-old Heil was squealing very loudly. Even though it's only been installed and running for 7 years, the serial number shows it's 10 years and 3 months old, therefore no warranty. I ordered a new motor/combo unit. This furnace has been running non-stop for the past 6 months and cannot be shut off. Heil is saying they have some problem with the panel and had to go back to the drawing board, therefore they have no parts to fix this issue until they can figure out what's wrong. 6 months of a loud non-stop running furnace? Really? There's still no light in the future as to when they will get this fixed, either. Really poor communication and no one ever gets back to me. I really wish I could find someone to speak to who could explain what's going on, right from Heil. This would be a nice option. Very disappointed.

Dont buy it

Purchased a Heil furnace and air conditioner unit 9 years ago. Have already had problems with the Air conditioner after 8 years and this year the furnace broke down. I need a part that apparently is no longer manufactured by the company so it has to be special ordered to the tune of 1200.00. It also will take 5-7 days and of course the temps in the area are at -15. Thanks for the support Heil. I will stick with Sears from now on.

Absoulutely love my furnace!

Well we have a winner here-I had an old furnace built in the sixty's and opted to replace it heard about these new energy units and decided to update mine, Well after doing my research I decided to try a Heil and then find a good contractor(really took some doing)After all was done I must say it's remarkable how good this vs90 operates. I highly recommend it-I've heard they have a vs95 out now but didn't when I placed my order. I'd suggest anyone in the market for a furnace look into getting a Heil. They don't do alot of tv advertising but the cost is very good and it works like a charm.-Hope to get 25-30 years out of this baby!

I installed a Heil H9MPV furnace in my home and it has been the most comfortable it has ever been. Hats off to you Heil for making such a great furnace.

Other VS 90 Reviews

When Heil furnaces are discussed in a post on doityourself.com, the experts state that higher efficiency furnaces, such as the VS 90, are worth the higher cost when compared to the efficiency of an 80-percent AFUE furnace. The forum writers note that Heil and Tempstar furnaces are similar and both owned by ICP.

A potential buyer poses a question hvac-talk.com about the quietness of Heil furnaces. Most of the experts comment that many of the 90-percent efficiency models sound the same. One contractor notes that variable-speed furnaces, such as the Heil VS 90, are quieter than those with a standard blower.

Another consumer asks for brand references on an hvac-talk.com thread about Heil furnaces. The contractors respond that Heil is a good brand; the installation is very important, as well as performing a load calculation to make sure the new unit will be the proper size.
