Overview of the FG6TC

The Frigidaire FG6TC is a discontinued two-stage, condensing gas furnace reaching up to 92 percent AFUE. This model is available in an upflow/horizontal configuration and can be installed with either a direct or non-direct vent. Also available is the FG6TL, which can be installed in a downflow application for a 90-percent AFUE rating.

The FG6TC is a two-stage unit and is promoted by the manufacturer for its "clean, quiet and efficient operation" as it operates on a low heating stage until it detects a change in temperature. An aluminized primary heat exchanger and stainless steel secondary heat exchanger, variable speed blowers, in-shot burners and insulated components also are designed to contribute to the unitís quiet and efficient operation.

Additional components of this series include color coded wires that allow for quick service and installation, a factory installed drain system and diagnostic lights to assist with limited troubleshooting. This model also can be converted to use LP and is equipped with connections for an electronic air cleaner, humidifier and twinning.

"Owner of this pice of junk"
We had the Frigidaire furnace( high efficiency) 2 stage and central A/C & heat pump installed in 06 model fg6tc o8o-vb. This unit has been bad from the day I bought it. Has service every year, won't burn but 1 minute and shuts off, will not keep freon in it for 3 months and leaks out or something. 10 years parts and labor does not pay for freon or labor. The warranty stinks. Do not buy a Frigidare furnace. Good luck to the rest that have no problems with their furnace. This furnace and heat pump is a piece of junk. Thinking of pulling it out and replacing it with something else. Thanks!

Other FG6TC Reviews

Overall contractors and homeowners seem to be pleased with the FG6TC. Professionals on gardenweb.com state that the two-stage functionality of this unit should provide more consistent heating and increased home comfort than a single-stage unit. The solid warranty, they say, is another reason to consider this model. Hvac-for-beginners.com also rates Frigidaire products well for the warranty and quality basic components.

While feedback on this model is generally positive, several homeowners post troubleshooting inquiries on consumer forums such as fixya.com as well as HVAC discussion forums. Issues include the unitís failure to heat, instances where the system is slow to start heating, major components breaking, hard to interpret diagnostic codes, and noisy operation.
