Overview of the TM9
The Evcon TM9 gas furnace today is marketed under the Coleman LX series. The 12 models in this series range from 95 to 97 percent AFUE. All units stand at 33 inches tall and are promoted for their low operating noise levels.
The TM9 series includes one furnace with a modulating operation. This model constantly adjusts the temperature to allow for precise climate control within the home. Remaining models feature either single or two-stage operation. Single-stage models use an air circulating fan motor to increase efficiency, while two-stage units are equipped with a high-efficiency variable-speed ECM fan motors to keep air flowing. Two-stage units also feature the company’s EcoTrak function, which allows homeowners to customize furnace operation to their climate.

The TM9 series is generally well-received around the web. Review sites such as webhvac.com note the variety of options Evcon-Coleman provides homeowners and state that homeowners can find products for all climates and price points. Gasfurnaceguide.com also rates this series highly, citing the modulating unit for its high efficiency and enhanced climate control. A good warranty and the EcoTrak function are mentioned as additional perks to this series.
Despite the positive feedback, some contractors on online discussion forums recommend other brands over Evcon-Coleman. In fact, one technician who works for Evcon-Coleman parent company Johnson Controls recommends that company’s York product over an Evcon-Coleman furnace in terms of quality. Although this and other techs mention the brand is generally of good quality, it is noted that other brands may provide better performance.

Furnaces in the TM9 series are equipped with a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger and a 10-year limited parts warranty. The unit must be registered within 90 days of installation. Failure to do so will result in warranty terms for parts reducing to 5 years and heat exchanger coverage of 20 years. Extended warranties that cover parts and labor also are available.
