The Clare Brothers’ HEG was a gas-burning, lowboy furnace series, also known as the Megasave, that has since been discontinued. This series was available in four different models, varying in size and heating capacities. Heating inputs for these for these units range from 60,000 to 120,000 BTU/H, while heating outputs range from 57,600 to 114,000 BTU/H.

Components of the HEG include pilot and main burners, hot flame sensor, air combustion blower, thermostat and blower motor. This model can be installed to vent through the roof or chimney.

"Old and reliable hi eff furnace"
Bought this high efficiency furnace(Megasave1) in 1982 and 30 years later, this unit still purrs like new. Stainless steel heat exchanger still in great shape. Repair history....replaced rusted vent fan once. Unit is simple with 2 heat exchangers and...no electronic boards to repair. Just simple limit switches for safety. My flue gas exhaust temperature is 90f while my warm air temperature is 130f and that spells savings. My officemate bought the same unit then and had the same satisfying experience with this product. Why can't they make a product like this anymore?

Other HEG Reviews

While the Clare Brothers is no longer making HVAC equipment, the company’s products still have a presence on consumer DIY forums. The most frequent posts involve homeowners looking for product information, a place to buy replacement parts, or information on the age of their Clare Brothers systems.

Posts searching for replacement parts often note the age of the units; several are more than 30 years old, with few mentions of repeated or previous issues with the system. Some homeowners are simply looking to replace these units with a more up-to-date version due to their age rather than any concrete problem.
