Overview of the VS 90

The Arcoaire VS 90 is a discontinued Energy Star-qualified gas furnace that offers up to 92 percent AFUE. This series features two-stage operation with self-adjusting heat modes and a variable-speed blower that automatically adjusts to temperature changes. The EMC variable-speed motor is pre-lubricated and designed to reduce vibration, keeping operation noise at a minimum.

The manufacturer reports that the series provides all-season home comfort by removing moisture as it cools, as well as with an air cleaner and UV lights that filter out indoor air pollutants and a set-back thermostat that allows the homeowner to set custom heat settings.

Additional components of the VS 90 include a direct hot surface ignition system with a silicon nitride igniter, RPJ III primary heat exchanger made of corrosion-resistant and weld-free stainless steel, a two-stage redundant gas valve, and a two-speed induced draft blower assembly.

"Happy with reservations"
I installed this unit 2 years ago. I have a few questions for the manufacturing about it and can't seem to find a number that helps me in that regard. I'm having an issue with this thing losing low voltage power for no apparent reason. Comes right back on, (so far) , but I can't seem to get anyone at the manufacturer to get back to me. Otherwise, I like it, quiet, efficient. Does a real nice job keeping us comfortable.

"Find a reputable installation and service company"
I have read many of the bad reviews and can only surmise that many of the complaints are due to poor installations and incompetent service technicians. I have install ICP products (Arcoaire. Heil, Comfortmaker, Tempstar) for over 16 years and have had few problems with them. I should mention for the guy recommending Carrier products, that Carrier owns icp. Most all companies have had a product on the market at one time that didn't live up to their expectations and most have made every effort to correct the problems. Lennox's Pulse furnace & Amana's htm furnace are just a couple examples of products the cost their manufactures millions in recall fees. When 90-plus furnaces first came on the market 20 plus years ago there were many innovative designs. Some should have been field tested longer, but everyone wanted to have a product available for the consumer. Some came back to haunt the manufacturers of them. Thankfully most all manufacturers have opted for a similar design with their products these days. Now if we can get the Mexicans to just make the components that most all manufacturers buy for their products better, we should have less dissatisfied costumers.
