FurnaceCompare.com was established in 2002 to provide comprehensive, unbiased information about heating and cooling systems. While in the beginning, we focused solely on furnaces, we now cover more than 2,000 series (and more than 54,000 individual models) of air source heat pumps, boilers, central air conditioners, furnaces, geothermal heat pumps, pellet stoves, water heaters, outdoor wood furnaces and wood stoves.
2017/18 Climate Change Scholarship
We believe that the choices that we make when we heat and cool our homes matter. They matter not only in terms of cost and frustration, they matter to the environment.
For that reason, we are funding the FurnaceCompare.com Climate Change Scholarship for the 2017 / 2018 academic year. This scholarship provides financial support to an undergraduate student that is fighting climate change by trying to improve the efficiency of the systems and equipment that we rely on to keep our homes and businesses comfortable.
We believe that our reputation in the long-term is more important than our profits in the short-term.

How FurnaceCompare.com got Started
I started FurnaceCompare.com in 2002 after I discovered that the 40-year old boiler in my basement was going to be remarkably expensive to replace. The first version of the site was pretty basic -- a search feature based on some Energy Star data. However, in 2005 we began to invest in collecting and publishing very detailed information about different heating and cooling equipment -- everything from specs to consumer reviews to prices.
I hope you find FurnaceCompare helpful. If you have suggestions for ways we could improve the site, please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
