Overview of the Ultra Series 3
The Weil-McLain Ultra 3-UE is a discontinued gas boiler with an efficiency of up to 96.4% AFUE. It had a cast aluminum heat exchanger and a stainless steel burner for increased efficiency and cleaner combustion. The unit was designed to operate in low-temperature condensing applications, and a variable speed motor matched combustion output to heating needs. The Ultra 3-UE was designed for both wall-mount and floor-standing applications and was equipped with four adjustable boiler legs.

Several years ago a Weil Mclain Ultra 105 was installed in my home. This was done as part of a low income weatherization program by Ashland County Wisconsin. For the first year it ran well. Then problems started and have increased ever since. Now I cannot get parts, combustion exhaust is visible in the basement. I have to restart it at least once a day to get any heat. After talking to all the heating contractors within 50 miles (most wont touch them) I get the same consensus: the Weil McLain boilers are huge piles of crap. I have to agree. Now I find out a recall was put out on this particular model due to carbon monoxide poisoning risks dated October 2006 - Mine was installed years after the recall but falls in the serial number ranges of the faulty units. Now here I sit with a death sentence providing intermittent heat. In can't reinstall the old boiler, which worked fine, because the installing contractor destroyed it. The valve bank that was installed leaks (any additives have long since run out), had to replace the circulation pump after a year, boiler spews exhaust gas in the basement - gotta be leaking into the house. No money to replace and nowhere to go. Trying to contact Weil McLain is an exercise in futility. Took over 3 hours for a HVAC pro to get a call back from their tech support. I seems obvious that these boilers were known to be faulty but an opportunity came up to unload them on a county program so they were dumped on the unsuspecting public.

"My Weil-McLain Ultra Boiler is the best"
My Weil McLain Series 3 Ultra CT boiler is so quiet and on top of that it is so reliable. I suggest though if you are going to get one have a professional install it. My uncle installed ours and initially it didn't work properly and I had to end up calling a professional to get it right. After we got it set up right we haven't had a problem since. Actually I forget all about my Weil-McLain Ultra boiler in my house because it works perfectly. We clean it and service our boiler yearly. I clean and service it yearly and it is installed exactly per specifications. I live right near a supply house that carries both parts and products. From what I've found they are such a reliable company. I did have a question and a Weil-McLain rep called me back within a reasonable time period. Over the years this is the type of boiler I've always used and wouldn't use anything else. I would recommend it to anyone.

"Don't buy, it won't last!"
I purchased a Weil-Mclain boiler Ultra Series 3, to replace an old oil furnace in 2007. I had it serviced every year. This year, 2016, the heat exchanger exhaust pipe developed a hole somehow. According to my service man, it was a result of expansion and contraction. OK. The part was under warranty but the warranty didn't cover the cost to replace the part, or the associated parts that have to be changed to change the damaged part. The labor costs alone are $2570!That's just the labor. In addition to the labor, the additional parts are over $500! Do not buy this! Go do your research and read the other reviews! Beware!

"Great boiler, going on 7 years"
Sit and relax, this boiler does every thing it has to do. No problems whatsoever. Goes on when it has to, heats up beautifully, shuts off...what else do you need? And for maintenance, I've never had it done yet. Talked to the gas company, they told me that this boiler is not much to maintain. Look into it in another few years, l was told. If it isn't broke don't fix it, the old saying goes...

"Weil McLain Ultra Gas S3 CT Boiler"
I purchased this boiler a few months ago, after it was recommended that I get a new one because the last one was extremely old. The two most important factors that I was looking at were price and durability. I wanted to make sure that I was getting my moneys worth. I looked at a few different brands, but after suggestions from many employees at my local hardware store I went with Weil-McLain. I think I made an excellent choice in choosing the Ultra gas boiler. It has many convenient features like the quick system preset to match my appliances. The delivery time was quick, and it seemed to be working almost instantly. While I did end up spending more money than I was hoping to, I'm content in knowing that I bought an appliance that will last me for years. I would absolutely recommend a friend or family member who needs a new boiler to get a Weil-McLain

"Great Boiler! Worked for years and I still use it!"
I've had this boiler for about 3 years now without issue, it has always worked when I needed it and without any use for replacement parts or hoses. It's great throughout the seasons when things get tough down in the hard winter nights of Virginia. This past year when the snowstorm hit and we needed heat quickly and reliably and this unit delivered. I've been with other brands that wear and tear after only a single year, this guy has been running without issue for over 3 now like I said. Our home is a 2-story Victorian style with large rooms and high ceilings but we've never had a problem using this unit to keep us alive through winter haha. We know of several friends who live in high rise apartments as well that use this unit and brand regularly for heat regulation. Highly recommend this Boiler to anyone who needs reliability and sturdy heat throughout your seasons.

"Very costly to fix for a 5 year old boiler"
In a month's time I have spent $1100.00 to service and fix a 5-year-old boiler. I was not happy with the service company who also installed the unit, this is one of Weil Mclains contractors they recommend. After servicing the unit for a no heat call, 10 days later I called for another no heat call and they charged me to come out. I am done with Foley Mechanical!

"My awesome boiler"
I've owned this boiler for about five years now and god do I love it. I have never had a single issue with this boiler, at all. Knowing that I haven't had to spend any time working on it or getting it fixed other than when I first set the thing up has been a huge load off of my mind. I would definitely recommend this brand to family and friends alike. This boiler is just dependable and that's it. Nothing fancy, nothing crazy, just dependable, cost efficient and low maintenance. For my next boiler, I am definitely going to consider buying the same brand. I mean, why not? All I've had so far with this boiler is success and no pains or issues. Compared to the other boilers I've had in the past for my house and apartments, this one takes the cake. Weil Mclain is the way to go for sure.

"Ultra boiler and 40 gallon Water Heater"
Had Weil-Mclain boiler & water heater installed on 08/18/10. Everything working great until the other day I noticed water on the floor around the water heater. I dried up the water to see if I could find out where the water was coming from. One place was the automatic air valve on top of the unit. This just drips water out slowly. The second one is coming out in- between the black bottom and the tank. Weil-Mclain only covers the cost of the part, not labor. So, after only 3.5 years I have to spend a couple hundred dollars to get it fixed already.

"PROBLEMS...and more problems"
2010 installation. Service calls commenced within 1 wk of installation. I am of the opinion that Weil-McLain has poor quality components. Further, the service techs seem clueless about this gas hot water boiler.

"Do Not Buy"
Sure, these boilers run efficiently but can you make it through a whole winter without an expensive fix? I have 3 of them in my rental property and have had tons of issues. The latest was two control boards fried within a few days of each other and now a heat exchanger that has basically disintegrated at the bottom. Of course, you can't simply replace the blown transformer on the board or the outlet port of the exchanger. They build them, so you have to spend a lot to fix them. Never again will I buy a Weil-McLain!
Other Ultra Series 3 Reviews
There are very few reviews of the Ultra 3-UE online. Among the few are a couple of posts on heatinghelp.com regarding problems with the units, with most members agreeing that the problems are due to installer error and not because of something wrong with the unit.

The warranty for the Weil-McLain Ultra 3-UE boiler is comprised of the following:
