Overview of the AHE

Weil-Mclain's AHE is a discontinued, gas-fired water boiler system. Offering up to 85.5 percent AFUE, this direct vent model is equipped with cast iron sectional boilers and can be heated with natural gas or propane. All units are factory packaged, wired and fire-tested before installation.

The AHE is designed for mounting on an exterior wall, and is assembled in one block sealed with high temperature sealant. The model also uses a sealed combustion system for quiet operation and direct venting through an exterior wall. A heavy-gauge steel jacket with a powdered paint enamel finish protects the exterior of the unit.

Additional components of this unit include a pilot ignition, combination gas control valve, a control module, blower and multi-position control module housing.

New Weil-Mclain Ultra installed 17 month ago, and due to a power surge during a storm, it needed a new control board. The cost was $375 which is bad enough, but what do I do during future storms...cut the power to the unit each time? I'm afraid that I am in for repair costs on a reoccurring basis.

Other AHE Reviews

Weil-Mclain has received a range of reviews from around the web. While some homeowners seem to love their unit, others state they've had nothing but issues with this boiler.

Reviews on air grievances from homeowners whose boilers have undergone several rounds of repairs. They state that Weil-Mclain offers poor customer service for needy customers. Bad parts, including the heat exchanger, blower, igniter, and burners, are some of the most frequent causes for complaint.

Despite the negative reviews, other homeowners say their unit has offered reliable performance and "never skips a beat." Contractors generally recommend this unit, blaming system issues on poor installation. Regular scheduled maintenance, they say, is the key to seamless operation.

The AHE is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.
