a Boilers manufactures gas and oil-fired boilers designed for both residential and commercial applications. Utica Boilers is a subsidiary of ECR International, a privately held company headquartered in Utica, N.Y.

Corporate History

Earl C. Reed founded Utica, a cast iron boiler manufacturing facility, in 1928, alongside Dunkirk Radiator Corp. At that time it was called “The Utica Companies”. Utica acquired Oneida Royal in 1990. ECR International was formed as a result of a merger between the Utica and Dunkirk companies in June 1999. Today ECR is parent to seven subsidiaries.

In 2008 a 30,000 square foot expansion, along with a research and development lab for hydronic and air source equipment design and testing, was added to the Utica facility.

Product Lines

Utica makes high-efficiency residential and commercial oil and gas boilers, many of which are Energy Star-qualified. The company offers 5 series in its line of gas condensing boilers, all of which are Energy Star qualified. Among these is the SSC, a stainless steel, wall-hung modulating boiler reaching up to 95 percent AFUE. The sealed combustion, direct vent hot water boiler is reportedly low in maintenance and self-cleaning. The SSC was named an Energy Star Most Efficient 2015 product.

Gas boilers include the MGB Series/MGC Series, a mid-efficiency line with AFUE ratings up to 83.9 percent. The line uses a control system that checks the water temperature to ensure that the burner starts once the residual heat has been transferred to the system, in order to optimize the unit’s efficiency.

The TriFire is one of the available oil boilers; features of this 3-pass high-efficiency boiler include a high limit control with LED Display, easy-to-program dial settings, boiler water temperature reset and low water cut off functionality. The Trifire has an eco-friendly design and features efficiency as high as 87% AFUE.

The entire heat exchanger on Utica’s hot water boilers is covered by a limited lifetime warranty, pro-rated after the 20th year. Condensing boilers are covered by a 15-year heat exchanger warranty, pro-rated after the 10th year. All other component parts are covered by a 1-year warranty from the installation date.

I had this boiler installed In my house three years ago. Nothing but issues since day one a01 code constantly pops up and I've had several technicians out to fix the problem and nobody's been able to. I was told by several technicians that this is the worst type of boiler to have brand wise. After 3 1/2 years, I'm going be pulling this boiler out and replacing it with a different one. So as far as saving money this was a huge total loss of money. As far as dealing directly with the manufacturer I've gotten no satisfaction, no return calls, no guidance and no help with my problem. This is gone on long enough, time for a change.

What a piece of junk! Avoid this company!!! The brand new boiler hasn't worked right since it was installed. Called Utica boiler several times to try and have a tech come and look at it. Every time it runs it overheats and causes error codes and no heat or hot water. Utica didn't want to hear anything about it. They blamed the issue on incorrect pump sizes. Changed them out and still same issue. Paid another HVAC contractor to check it out, they adjusted the boiler temp down as so it won't overheat. They called Utica boiler and same excuse pumps are wrong size. Support is shit and the product is shit. Save your money and go elsewhere!! Save the headache!!

"No heat, no hot water"

I bought a Utica CuB 150 boiler on a state loan to convert to gas. 5 year financing at 0%. During the first year, the unit had intermittent heating issues. Under warranty, it took the service tech and tech from ECR over a month to fix the unit, leaving us with no hot water. We have documented evidence of this. Document everything. The unit never worked the same as the hot water never was really hot again and they couldn't seem to adjust it. 3 1/2 years after the buying unit, we have no hot water from July 18 until august 25 and ongoing. Still. ECR won't cover parts or labor. ECR informed the tech they recommended to clean out the unit, costing me $480. The unit still didn't work and they want $400 to fix it. It's over 35 days later with no hot water. Don't buy from this manufacturer. We need to buy a new unit and still owe on the first one, as the unit was supposed to last 15 years. When it breaks, no one can fix it in a reasonable amount of time, leaving us without hot water and heat for weeks to months.

"Not liking this right off the bat"

I just installed a chb100 Utica wall hung boiler. Control wires are a pain in the ass to get to. I still haven't figured out how to set the low temp cut in. The instructions on using by "holding this button for 5 seconds, then 10 secs or 2 secs is very very ridiculous. But the biggest grip is that there is no on /off switch. You have to hold one of the 2 reset switches for 5 secs. (Or was it 10 secs). I hope someday before I retire I get to see an appliance that is made for the people buying them. The engineering department her should be ashamed of themselves

"Worst boiler"

Expressing experience with your product. I have got model # CCB-150 mfg: 'ECR international' installed in a town house back 2016 winter. Have been regretting since then! Worst boiler, problematic operation, poor reliability, manuals lack critical information. Poor customer relationship from Mfg representative! Since installed made numerous service calls to get this fixed. Don't want to keep this boiler anymore- Ending up replacing with totally different type boiler. Issues I been facing. boiler shuts off suddenly have happened 15-18 times, infrequent hot water supply, poor temp control of hot water -burning hot water. This resulted in burns on my skin. I ended up using bucket to mix hot water with cold. Poor response to get hot water 6-8 minutes wait time, short exchanger life-Kettling of boiler in first 3 months. Other users please be wise before you choose this product. I will not recommend
