Overview of the NCB

The Navien NCB is a condensing gas combination boiler with an efficiency rating of 95.0% AFUE. It was named an Energy Star Most Efficient 2015 product and is available in three models -- NCB-180, NCB-210, and NCB-240. It is designed to save space and occupies up to 80% less space than a traditional floor standing boiler with tank water heater. The NCB features dual corrosion-resistant stainless steel heat exchangers with a separate stainless steel flat plate heat exchanger for domestic hot water. The system can use 2" PVC for venting up to 60 feet and can easily be converted from natural gas to propane operation. For situations with very high domestic hot water demands, the NCB can be cascaded with Navien's NPE tankless water heaters.

"Don't buy from Plumber. Use HVAC contractor"
Over 10 years of installing these units and I have minimal problems. The customer service at Navien is the best. Parts are easily available, if the part is not in stock, it gets delivered by noon tomorrow from California. If your unit has problems, it is definitely from poor install, bad water or dirty power.

"Do NOT Buy This Product"
Converted my house over to natural gas and had this unit installed by a certified Navien technician. The unit has been unreliable since day one. I never know from one day to the next if I'm going to have hot water. Can't count the number of times I have had to reset the unit. It works fine for a few days then shuts down. I can not leave my house for any extended period of time during the winter for fear the unit will shut down and freeze my pipes. I'm now without hot water and the unit needs a part. Only a certified Navien technician can communicate a problem to Navien or order parts. Can't get parts locally, only through Navien direct. It takes 3 days to get a part and forget weekends. No dealer carries Navien parts since distributors who sell the units are not allowed to stock parts. Customer serve his horrendous. They could care less about the customer. There should be a class action lawsuit against this company. Labor to install parts under warranty costs a fortune. Any savings accumulated through boiler efficiency is quickly consumed through labor costs. Do not I repeat do not buy this product. I'm stuck with it and there is nothing I can do to rectify the situation. I'm tempted to go back to my old reliable oil fired furnace.

"Defective Design!!!!"
Someone please start a Class Action Lawsuit so I can recoup some of the money I am constantly dumping into this piece of garbage Unit. I have had the unit for 1.5 years and have changed out the Dual Ventri part 4x!!! Yes, the part broke 4 times!!!! About every 3 months the unit shuts down and starts making the same noise. Error light starts blinking with e-060 (Dual Ventri Error). There has to be a way to sue these people.

My original Navien boiler developed drip on condensation outlet bottom of heat exchanger, after talking to customer service was decided that I need replacement. Disconnected it drove to plumbing supply got free replacement, actually decided on newer model so payed the difference in price, installing new one toked about half hour, only difference is height of bracket that have to be moved 1/2', replacement works great and saves plenty on heating costs for four years now , replaced three way valve once and spark rod, that was expected since boiler is heating and making hot water for five family house 4500 sq feet . Anyone who has something wrong to say about this company head their boiler installed wrong, by someone who has no idea about modern hydroponics, or connected to heating system that is not compatible to work with condensing modern heating boiler or just have unreasonable expectations. Everything needs maintenance. If your Navien boiler don't condensate fool time after being properly set up you should stay with your old cast iron clunker.

I have installed over 250 of these Navien combi boilers since Sandy. I have one in my home. Navien makes improvements every year to these boilers. There has been some issues yes. I have made repairs on a number of these boilers but like I said the older ch models have a tendency to leak from the heat exchanger in which case if you call Navien and follow their protocol they will warranty the unit with the newer model ncb-e series. Out of all wall hung boilers I have seen since Sandy these in my personal opinion happen to be the best. Yes they are sensitive so water filtration systems may be needed and yes they do need to be flushed out every 18-24 months but if you have a raised home on a water prone area or you lack space the Navien ncb 240e series is the best around. Most problems occur because of poor installations and lack of maintenance. But for the most part the boiler is solid. Now is it going to last 30 years? I doubt it but Iím hoping to get a solid 15 years from mine and if installed correctly swapping the units out will take minimal effort. "Really hate this product"
I am reading these reviews and it is like I wrote them. Did a conversion 3.5 years ago and now the unit is rotting on the wall. The condensation has caused rust and crud all over. They keep sending the wrong parts and there is no one to talk to except low level staff who have no authority to make decisions. I am now entering day 8 with no heat or hot water with no relief in sight for 2 more days and that is only if what they are sending works. Time for a class action lawsuit?

"Itís all about your contractor."
You know. I have been reading these reviews and almost all of the negative reviews about the units seem to be about improper installations or excessive labour fees to repair the unit or waiting for parts. We have been Navien service specialists for over 10 years now and have had great success with Jensen units. If your contractor was an nss, he would have a repair kit with all the necessary parts of your unit was to fail and the replace his stock when the parts arrive from Navien. Also, all manufactures have similar warfanties. One year labour. If parts are replaced or the unit is replaced, they will carry the balance of the original warranty. Industry policy. And lastly, have your unit serviced regularly including flushing and descaling as preventative maintenance. So before you hire a contractor to replace your boiler with any brand, do you homework on the contractor as well as the unit. Take responsibility for your choice of contractor.

First, I failed to do research in my local area for recommendations and simply went with Home Depot's heating contractor to replace a 50 year old combination boiler/dhw heater. To my surprise, I was recommended the Navien combi unit and already impressed in two months of use into the first winter. I've already seen less gas use since a boiler isn't maintaining 40 gallons of hot water. Hot water is as expected and more reliable than wondering when someone uses the washer or washing dishes while showering. While I've followed up and read many more negative reviews of Navien products, I can state that my plumber came licensed and trained in Navien installations. This may be the main reason for mine and many others with great results, installation by qualified plumbers trained by Navien. I watched the installation and observed in detail, later finding out that installation used all the options for a complete setup to include future maintenance with extra valves to allow maintenance when needed - flushing the system of buildup and occasional water filter cleaning. I maintained my old boiler so it wasn't difficult to learn tankless technology and different issues if they pop up. So far, heating is great for the three zone hydronic system in a two family home and hot water when needed. My only problem is finding out the specific failures with other Naviens with disappointed home owners. With licensed plumbers and Navien trained, I cannot see where these products fail. Tankless is proven elsewhere in the world with each product having specific issues no different from oil or gas boilers. Perhaps the so called plumbers and failed units aren't honest about their unfamiliarity with them and the nuances that can make tankless units act poorly. Even more issues may plague diyers assuming they know enough when they aren't considering everything that makes a licensed plumber knowledgeable. During the estimate before deciding on tanked or tankless, the plumber was extremely open and discussed everything I brought up, a conversation lasting close to an hour or so. Hopefully, I made the right decision with the right plumbing company and will see years of reliable service.

"Piece of crap"
Installed the unit 3 years ago in my cottage. Constant problems with the boiler shutting down especially in cold weather. Have had 2 freezes resulting in burst pipes. Have spent thousands on labour and new parts. Even spent money on a wireless alarm. Now thereís problems with the hot water. Needs a new part which wonít be here for 2 days. Meanwhile no heat and hot water in winter. Definitely cutting My losses and replacing the whole thing. Donít waste your money on this product. This company should be out of business and installera who install a piece of junk like this should be sued.

"JUNK PRODUCT, GARBAGE COMPANY"
I purchased a ncb240e Combi for a client. It worked for about one week when the problems started. First the pump failed. Navien told my tech that particular pump had been upgraded due to many failures. We waited for the new pump and installed it. 2 days later another call back. This time the 3 way valve failed. We waited and installed when arrived. It worked sporadically for the next couple of months and then quit altogether. I purchased and installed a new boiler and have only had one minor problem. My wholesaler did nothing. Navien did less. I was told by some little at Navien that because I took the original off the wall it was not their problem. Hard lesson learned! Do yourself a favour and never purchase a Navien product, your life will be so much better.

"Stay away from Navien"
My original Navien was installed in 2012. No problems for 5 years. In March of 2017, the heat exchanger started leaking. The unit had to be replaced. The good news; the unit had a 10-year heat exchanger warranty, so it would be replaced for free. The bad news; I had to pay my plumber $2,000 for the labor. Yesterday, three months after the unit was installed, no hot water. Called the plumber. He and Navien Tech determined the internal pump went bad -- not covered by warranty -- because it's a replacement unit, with a 30-day parts warranty. Wtf!! I'm not out $300 for the replacement part plus labor fees. Overall the unit is good, but heaven forbid anything goes wrong. I will never purchase a Navien product again.

"The most important part is the proper installation"
I have been installing these boilers professionally for over five years. In those five years I have over 100 of them installed in various applications from basic baseboard to huge mono flow systems requiring multiple boilers to work together. Of all the units I put in, I have had issues with two of them. One was a pump failure and the other was a bad board. The pump failed because of debris. I put a strainer on and never had the problem again. I started putting in special receptacles in to clean up the power and the board problems went away. Just like you plug your computer and TV into a surge protector, you need to protect the circuits on any of these high technology appliances. They are computers and susceptible to power fluctuations. The most important part of the installation is the installer. If the price is too good to be true, it usually is.

"Garbage!" If you plumber recommended to you a Navien hot water boiler, hire new plumber, if you installed already- go to Home Depot and buy a couple of electric heaters as well because your going to need them when your unit continuously fails. I had a NCB 240 installed in couple different customer, each one have lot of problem, now I me ridge with this garbage. Every couple month it has failed, it was flame loss then two way valve quit working now my igniter switch is junk, in each boiler pressure sensor need to replace after 3-6 month. The idea of saving money because it's high efficiency goes right out the window when you use Navien product. Do your research before you buy and save yourself the headache.

Haven't had heat nor hot water since Sunday night 4/11. We've been having issues with our Navien combo boiler since installing it 1-1/2 years ago. Worst customers service! 3 different plumbers say it's a bad unit, but the rep for Navien, Repcor, said it's the install, Speaking to these people is like talking to AT&T...Ridiculous - no help! We just want our money back.

If you buy a Navien tankless water boiler do yourself a favor and go to Walmart and buy a couple of electric heaters as well because you're going to need them when your unit continuously fails. I had a NCB 180 installed three years ago. Every winter it has failed in some way or another leaving my family without heat for days. The 5 year warranty covers parts, not labor. So when the plumber needs 3 hours to replace 10 cent o-rings rest assured those o-rings are fully covered. You'll still be on the hook for his time. Makes me happy I invested in this junk.

"Big problems"
I'm in the midst of trying to fix this problem. Installed June, 2016, hot water sporatic, sometimes none for most of the day...after two calls to the installer, **** ******* of Eagle Energy in Raynham, stopped answering my phone calls, did not respond to messages nor to emails. I called the manufacturer, they gave me phone numbers of 4 contractors who had training in installing this system. I have one now who said the installation was done all wrong and there is no inspection sticker on it, so apparently the unit was not inspected. He said because it was not installed correctly it is not under warranty. He says he can redo it from the ground up...for at least $2500, maybe more. I've already spent $500 on it, and the original cost was $8600. I'm wondering if it's worth fixing, after reading these reviews...is it throwing good money after bad. And I've been told that **** ******* is now out of business. I wonder what my recourse is. I've written to Better Business, the Attorney General and to 'solveit7', so I'm hoping someone can help. My husband and I are 78 and 79, we don't know how to deal with this, beyond what we've done.

I have owned my Navien boiler for almost two years now. I have been living in the same house with 3 of my friends for these two years, and it has been working with no problems since then. I like how quiet and efficient it is and honestly I have no complaints about it. I would definitely recommend this boiler to anybody looking for a new one because it is the greatest one I have ever owned.

"Efficient heat compared to forced air"
I had my boiler installed last fall (September 2014) and I love it. We converted to a hydronic air handler from a traditional natural gas forced air furnace. I feel it delivers a much more even heat and is a lot more efficient. I also like the fact that we have essentially unlimited hot water now as well. I have recommended this unit to several of my friends. If I buy another property, I would definately invest in the same setup. Lastly, I really appreciate the small form factor it has, it freed up some room in my garage.

Online reviews of the NCB appear to be mixed. On heatinghelp.com, a post from a homeowner trying to choose between the NCB and a similar Lochinvar unit found most replies favoring the Lochinvar, although one member stated that he liked his NCB and had no problems with it. In another post on the site a member mentions that Navien has updated their boiler line three times in five years, and for that reason he cannot support the product.
