Overview of the Combi CH-240
The Navien Combi CH-240 is an on-demand combined ("combi") unit which heats water for central heating as well as for hot showers. This tankless boiler can be set up either inside or outside the house.
Features and specifications of the Navien Combi CH-240
- It has two non-corrosive stainless steel heat exchangers. The heat exchangers have an energy efficiency of 91% when using natural gases and 92% when using propane.
- It comes with a remote control that includes water temperature control, 24 hour scheduling and a user-friendly LCD display.
- This boiler comes with an external sensor. Any changes in external temperature will lead to an automatic response from the boiler to either initiate central heating or halt it.
- It has a built-in water leak detector and carbon monoxide monitoring system.
Safety precautions when using the Navien Combi CH-240
- Ensure the boiler is adequately vented.
- Ensure the water temperature is regulated, especially when children and the elderly are in the house. Do not set the water temperature above 125° F.

"Nightmare! Absolute Nightmare!"
The radiant side never worked from the beginning despite the installer, who I picked from the Navien website, being on the phone with them. Lived with wood heat and the hot water side until after a year and a half, the whole system broke. I had a new installer I again got from their website come out to service it. Imagine my surprise when he told me the whole thing was installed incorrectly. After two weeks, he got Navien to ship a new Exchanger. Two days later the Module went out. After having shipped that a week later, we again had hot water. If you're counting, that's three weeks without hot water in the middle of winter. Two weeks later, the whole unit burns up. Now, Navien refuses to warrant it further due to faulty installation. They said they were not responsible for the work of installers that they listed on their website. I now only have hot water because I was able to reconnect an old electric water heater I found. Absolute Nightmare! Do NOT buy under any circumstances. Their service is crap. You're always waiting at least a week for a part. And then they don't stand behind their work or the work of people they recommend.

"Hate It! I'm cold."
It was installed after Sandy. We have had to call the plumber every winter at least once. Woke to no heat again today. The parts are under warranty, but not the price of the plumber to install the part. What I save in gas I spend in plumbers and electric heaters.

"Totally unreliable-DONT BUY"
I echo the other negative reviews. Do not buy. Mine has broken down in each of the last 3 winters. No heat or hot water. While they cover the parts, not the labor. I have spent approximately 1500 in repairs.

"Navien boilers are crap"
Ch240 installed 01/01/2012. Last year (1018 ) it has always been trouble but last year I spent $1,000.00 having Gandy Installations come by to keep it running. At year-end, it was leaking half a gallon in 24 hours, through the burner. I paid Gandy's bill of $156.45 today to come by and confirm it was leaking. Today I also paid Gandy $866.25 to install a new burner. Navien supplied the boiler but I paid the cost to get it running and all the parts they sent were not installed and would add another 2 1/2 hours or $400.00 making the total $1422.70 to fix. They say they will put them in next when it quits...Bad engineering, Can't them make an insert or just send a new boiler. Can't believe it would take longer than the 8 hours in total to replace this. And the cost is outrageous and reliability pee poor. Never again...

"My unit lasted only 5.5 years"
I installed a ch240ng (Space & DWH combi) in 2012 after an oil->gas conversion. The unit worked very smoothly until the last summer when it started to generate noise when there's a heat demand (E.G. hot water faucet is on). A Navien trained tech examined the unit and concluded that the unit was beyond repair. A replacement is needed. I called another experienced tech who drew the same conclusion. Comparing to my old oil boiler which had worked with the problem for 24 years, my Navien unit has had only less than 6 years. If I knew this in 2012, I would consider twice before making this $2.5K investment. I also went through all the "very satisfied" reviews on this forum. I found none of them was from owners who had had their units for more than 5 years.

Installed two CH-240 in a two-family house. I had and still have issues with a three-way valve, pump, etc. have paid over 3.000 in labor. I do not recommend them to anyone.

"Heat Exchanges Leaking Water"
Extremely unsatisfied. Exactly after 5 years, the heat exchangers are leaking water. The leakage has also caused all the components on the bottom of the unit to rust. Iím very concerned that at this point this is a serious safety hazard as the leakage will compromise the performance of the electrical, electronic and mechanical components for sure. The company in Canton, ma that installed the unit took pictures and videos a week ago but have yet to hear from Navien. This unit was installed under with incentives from Mass Save. Mass Save must track the performance of the boilers in the market and advise the customers to stay away from brands like Navien as they are not delivering on the promise of quality, safety and performance. I will wait to hear from my Plumbing company in Canton, Ma and if Navien and the Plumbing company (who purchased the Navien boiler on my behalf and completed the installation) do not handle this in a reasonable way I will contact a law firm. I will continue to post further developments on my case.

"Not hiring a professional installer"
I have install over 150 boilers over the past 5 years and less than 1% I have to go back to repair also Navien has a full package with 100% of parts that only trained contractors get when they are certified. So if you hire a contractor that doesn't know how to install or repair this boilers. You didn't ask enough questions and were trying to save some money now I had been call to fix over 50 Navien boilers last year because they hire someone that just wasn't to make some money and don't know how to trouble shoot them and 95% of them are wrongly installed. I had service all models and brands and they all will give you problems at some point in life. The only equipment out there that never gave any problem went out of business 60 years ago cause they couldn't sell any parts..

"Don't waste your money"
Well I usually don't write reviews one way or another but hopefully this will save someone some headaches.. I replaced my full size boiler and water heater with a ch240 navien combi boiler about 5 years 2 months ago.. The five years I have owned it has broken down at least once a winter.. Their trouble shooting consists of ordering parts and hoping for the best.. No one local stocks the parts so you order their best suggestion, wait two days after paying more for shipping then the part itself, install part, call back navien and get the next part they recommend for fixing it.. I usually had fixed it myself but I did have techs out 3 times who knew no more about the unit then I did.. Same thing, call navien, follow their suggestions and hope for the best.. Finally after being out of warranty two months the heat exchangers top plate had corroded and lifted causing air fuel ratio to no longer be correct and leaking carbon monoxide.. Unit is now garbage..Save your money for something better, we still have a month or two of the heating season left and I decided to let my gas fireplace handle the job until I can afford something good..

"Very unsatisfied, unit defective, warranty not honored"
This is a poorly designed unit for Alaska, within months of installation, the three way valve quit and a new one installed, then the pump stopped working and Navien refused to honor their warranty on parts. Representative said the unit was not installed properly, the service person took a picture of the installation and texted it to the representative and asked how it was installed improperly and the rep would not reply. We have invoices of over $1000,00 in repairs this unit has cost us. The pressure sensor unit quite and cost $431.00 additional and we then had the unit replaced with another brand. If there is a class action suit pending, I want to part of it.

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISASTER OF A BOILER"
3.5 years ago did an oil to gas conversion. The contracting firm said to go with Navien as they are very efficient. Perhaps when they are able to actually run. It's been a nightmare so far. Internal valve failures, error codes, etc. And now, during the coldest weather in many years we have been without heat for 3 days. Still waiting for a 3-way valve to arrive so the technician can rip out a bunch of parts in front of where it's located to replace (way in the back of unit). How can this part not be readily available in the ny Metro area? And the fact that, even though the $45 part is covered under warranty, I will be paying the hourly installation for this as well. I am seriously considering junking this piece of garbage and buying a more reliable (and better designed/maintainable) unit. Stay the heck away from this thing!!!!!!

"Unbelieveable so far. I've already contacted a lawyer. I see a lawsuit coming against Navien, the installer or both."
Nothing has worked correctly. There's been human error upon installation. A part was not working in the system. Navien will be out of business this continues.

"Company policy stinks"
I am writing out of frustration. I had to replace my unit because of a bad heat exchanger. My house was built in 2013 so the unit was only 4 years old. Navien replaced the boiler but since my labor warranty was only for one year I had to pay $1000 to the plumber to put the new one in. I called to register the new boiler and was told that this one will pick up the warranties where the old one left off. So I asked if this one craps out on me say in a few months I will have to pay for the labor again and the response was yes I will have to pay for the labor. Who has heard of such bad company policy. I wonder if there is a class action suit against this company.

"Do not buy a Navien"
I used a Navien trained licensed plumber to install 2 Navien ch-240n asme high efficiency hot water boiler combo in November 2011. Since the installation I have spent more than $1000 dollars in repairs, with one boiler failing once and the second one failing 4 times. We were left with no heat or hot water. Their trained plumbers who came out to address the issues failed to follow Navien protocols, resulting in me not being reimbursed for parts under used that were under warranty. Navien's position is the plumbers are independent contractors, and they are not responsible for their behavior or action. As a customer of Navien be prepared to be on your own if you have a problem with their product. I have not found Navien to be accommodating or sympathetic to my needs or concerns, do not buy this product!!!!! The follow ups are nightmares.

"Robbing Peter to pay Paul"
I've spend over 1000 dollars in the past 3 years since the new installation Apparently, though not yet determined, there was an incorrect install. Now I need to find yet another 'expert' technician- if one exists in my area. I'm sure there is, but wish I installed the 'tried and true' plain vanilla gas low efficiency boiler at this pot. It's a horse race of Navien vs bmw (my 535xi) who will succeed in extracting the most $ from my pocket.

"Not at all good and Navien knows it"
Would like to start a class action suit. Navien is requiring a $1600-ish retrofit and line-flush to fix a design issue they have. This is the 3rd time without hot water in a two week period, even as the service company did first a unit and screen flush, (lasted for 10 days and then again, no hot water) and then a 4-hour, whole-house flush and screen/unit clean. Lasted 3 days. And we are on a water softener systems so don't tell me it is hard water of some sort. Our prior boiler lasted 18 years; this is less than 18 months. The newer Naviens have the $900 valve they want me to buy, as part of the design of the new units. This is not a model improvement, it is a fix of a known design flaw. (I'm a design engineer; I know the difference)

There have been multiple problems with the system and it is only a few years old. The first one that was installed was finally replaced a short time after being installed. The new one also has had multiple problems. In January I had to pay $1100 for a repair. This morning, May 17, I had no hot water. I can't go through this any longer. I never know when another problem is going to arise. Before I had this heating system installed I had a very old oil system that never gave me a problem. I converted to gas and got a nightmare with this system. Very unreliable.

I have install about 20 of the Navien combo unit 240 model. I had one call back and that was because the lady son accidentally turned the emergency switch off. I am planning to install one in my house. Two days ago I went to look at one that was install by another contractor and the contractor installed a feed regulator valve which in not necessary because it caused the system to go into error. There is no need to install a feed regulator valve because it has a built in one. The pressure on the system keep going low and the system was shutting down. I took it out and hot water and heat was sailing.

"Waiting for repairs"
I may change my evaluation in a week, but for now I am disappointed and very unsatisfied with the Navien ncb 240 combo boiler. I am waiting for a water leak repair and my chosen heating company is being held up for a go-ahead because Navien in New Jersey insists on a water sample before authorizing parts. The original installer sub-contracted as he is a builder and I want to work directly with a heating and fuel company. I had a nyserda (nys) grant to help with the installation and was given glowing reviews of this heat and hot water system. It began to leak in November 2016 and was repaired under labor and parts warranty. Now the same leak has occurred and I will have to pay for labor. Ok, now a week has gone by, the system still drips water on to all of the internal parts and the company is hedging on the repair because they want to say that my well water is the problem. If this is the case I should have been fully informed before installation that I needed my water tested first. Also, I have a whole-house water filter installed and a water softener. I would say, buyer beware. You will hear more excuses why the system shuts down than you can imagine. Before you buy, it's all roses and what a great company. If my repairs will amount to as much as a new product, I will donate the Navien back to the company and buy something else. I see the Bosch has great reviews. If Navien comes though soon, I may change my tune, but today I am discouraged and feel taken for a ride.

The unit started making an awful noise and the company that installed it keeps sending people here but none of them have any idea what the problem is. Just sent and email to Navien. We'll see if they fix the problem.

Installed ch-240 in rental unit May 2013. Failures began March 2014 and got worse over time. Tech support kept telling my technician to replace one part after another. Water pressure sensor was replaced at least 4 times under warranty. In the New England winter of 2016 the unit was failing about once a week. Navien's technicians would only have my guy replace parts 1 at a time. I had to replace the unit in December for the safety of my tenants (including a baby). Made calls to Navien. They refused to compensate me since their technician did not say to replace the unit. They did not seem to care if their customers suffered.

"First one recalled, on second unit still having problems"
We installed a Combi heating/water unit made by Navien. Middle of winter and unit breaks down. No heat, no hot water and total freeze up in water lines. After trying to repair, Navien sends out a new updated, revised model. This winter again with no heat, no hot water. 2 visits from plumber. There should be some kind of class action lawsuit against this company as I am sure we are not the only ones experiencing this. This has turned into an expensive venture. Considering ripping out second unit and replacing with standard heating system. Do not buy!!!!!!

Our contractor had a Navien boiler installed at the end of 2010. Since that time, I have spent over $2000 in parts and labor to keep the unit running. While the Navien warranty has expired, the company will not consider supplying parts at reduced cost in an effort to maintain customer satisfaction. Under no circumstances at all would I ever consider purchasing a boiler from Navien.

You do not want to buy Navien. They made my heating guy wait 45 minutes for tech support, I waited 38 and my buddy waited 24. The tech then told me the part number I needed after I gave him my serial number of the unit. That cost me another 6 hours in 18 degree weather and a full day lost waiting for part. We then learn the correct part number but the distributor doesn't have it in stock. I drive 75 miles to another location. That afternoon after another 45 minute phone wait we need to drive to another location 76 miles away. 4 homes I built have them installed and I will now switch brands. 3 days with no heat or hot water, 300 miles,10 dollars in tolls and I will tell anyone listening, "don't buy this company's service" it sucks.

I had plumbers install my first Navien in 2010. This boiler started giving me problems three short years later, to the point where I had to unplug and plug it back in to get it to work..I spent lots of money on repairs. I also had to wait for parts because plumbing supply stores don't carry many parts for combi boilers. Spent countless hours on the phone with rude Navien personnel, finally received a new unit less than two years ago and had plumbing redone by a certified plumber...and now am having problems again. Wish I had stuck with my 25 year old boiler!

"Very Happy with Navien On Demand Boiler"
I had this boiler installed 3 years ago after reading many positive and negative reviews. I was a little nervous but found a plumber with specific experience installing this type of boiler. I use the boiler for both on-demand hot water and heating for my house. This replaced a separate boiler and water tank system. My experience with it has been nothing but positive. It is very economical, low maintenance and the space saving over conventional boilers and tank is huge. My house is quite small so I got a lot of bonus storage space out of the conversion. My gas bills dropped significantly as I was not having to keep a water tank hot. The only negative is that it can be a little loud so it depending on placement that might be annoying. So far I have had to clean the filters but it has not required any other maintenance. I would definitely buy this boiler again and strongly recommend it to a friend. The only caveat being that you really need a good plumber that is specifically experienced with this boiler manufacturer. It is a very complex system and I read a lot about poor installations, which caused the homeowners a lot of problems. Thankfully my personal experience has been great.
