I'm a service tech for a company that installs many Lochinvar boilers. We also service Lochinvar products installed by others The vast majority of problems with these boilers fall in to two categories. 1) lack of regular maintenance & 2) installation errors. We have found them to be very versatile & reliable. I can't help but wonder if the reports of multiple problems here are caused by improper installation and if the "technicians" working on them have had factory training. I would not hesitate to install one in my own home if I had hydronic heat.

"10 years and no problems"
Knight Boiler was installed in 2007, a three person crew installed it. One guy handled the Programming/electronics. I have had no problems. Actually, no one has touched it in 10 years. I'm reading the reviews here and just can't believe the problems most owners are having. Maybe I have one of the early models that has no problems. I do have a whole home water filter and change the condensing water filter every year. I'm almost afraid to have anyone look at it in fear they will mess something up.

"Worst furnace ever!!!!"
We have had this furnace for 5 years and have had to make at least 15 to 20 service calls for the furnace unit shutting off. There were some times when the reset button would allow the furnace to start back up but that no longer works. Sensors have been replaced at least 3 times as well as the overflow pump. As long as we are home we can address this but if are not this can lead to other problems in cold weather. This is getting out of hand and we are very frustrated. Our furnace repairman is also not getting the support from this company. Our product is definitely a lemon and needs to be replaced!

"Acid content of waste water"
We just had the furnace technician complete the yearly maintenance on our Lochinvar boiler. He informed us that the company was recently informed that the waste eater from this unit (not sure about other models that were installed from 2012 on) has an acidic content that over time (?) can do damage to the pipes that would go to either the municipal water system or one's septic system. I called the heating company who installed the system and they immediately said that it is not their problem but the manufacturer's. The apparent solution is the installation of a limestone filter (and I don't know how long one filter lasts). I have yet to be told what the cost of this will be. This appears to me to be along the lines of a recall done with vehicles. When it is discovered that something that was done or not done, or, that a certain part is not operating correctly, results in a recall and of course at not cost to the consumer. This all is apparently new information to the companies who have installed either this particular Lochinvar system or possibly all of the boilers Lochinvar has manufactured since at least 2012. Has anyone else who owns a Lochinvar boiler been told this information by the heating contractor who installed their system?

"Dependable, affordable product"
I have had this same unit now for over 6 years. This has been the most reliable boiler I have ever owned. It has not had any type of mechanical issues in the length of time I have owned it. The only maintenance it requires is standard maintenance brought by normal use and wear and tear. When I purchase a boiler I am not usually concerned about price, and this boiler is an absolute bang for the buck. I would recommend this boiler system to anyone that is in the market to put in a new system, or replace an existing system. If I were to recommend any brand to anyone, Lochinvar would be at the top of my list. They displayed excellent customer service when I had questions about installation of the unit, as well as guidance as to what needed done in the line of maintaining the unit.

"Bad heat exchanger"
After 6.5 years the heat exchanger needs to be replaced. I find this to be a very poor result. I do not recommend this boiler.

"My boiler is very efficient. I love it!"
I have owned my Lochinvar boiler for about two years now. I really like how it is a safe source of heating and earth friendly, it produces all natural gas so it does not harm the environment. Plus, it has cleaner results than the other types of boilers that I had past experiences with. I don't have anything I dislike about it. The quality is very good and it lasts long. So far, so good, and I haven't had any repairs done yet! I would most definitely purchase this same brand again and also recommend it to my friends and family. I know that they will enjoy it because a lot of them do not have a natural gas boiler. Out with the old and in with the new! In my opinion, natural gas boilers are a greater choice for anyone who decides to switch it up and experience something different within their home.

We've had nothing but trouble since we had this installed in 2006. We have spent thousands on techs and parts trying to get it to work consistently. The company sent a rep early on, then ignored our calls. We're up in the mountains using this for heating and hot water, and it's incredibly frustrating. Never again. We will never buy a Lochinvar again. Terrible product.

Michigan winters can be harsh. Decided to "upgrade?" to a higher efficiency model in that our old Weil-McLain Boiler had been good to us, but must have been 50 years old, at best 60% efficient. The old boiler's worst repair was a pump - easy fix, couple hundred bucks - do-it- yourself. I decided on the Lochinvar Knight high efficiency. Bad decision. Problems from the start. Called in the installer several times who advised me to reset, reset, reset,... These new boilers are problematic. Well, he went out of business, so I called Lochinvar to get a "factory authorized" tech's input. He replaced the blower and main valve for $1,400 (this thing was not yet 4). Called the company rep who was extremely rude, saying it was my fault for relying on the installer to get me to reset. I tried to at least get rebuilt spares in exchange for the parts removed - company would not support the boiler. My experience - buy someone else's boiler. This one is headaches.

He was advised by professionals on the site that it is an excellent unit, and judging by photos and descriptions from the homeowner the problems were most likely caused by installer error and the unit being oversized.
