Overview of the Freedom
The Burnham Freedom is a discontinued condensing, modulating, high-efficiency gas boiler. The Freedom had an efficiency of up to 95.4% AFUE and was Energy Star certified. It could be used in a wall-hung or floor mount configuration, with a matching floor mount base available. The unit featured a cast aluminum mono block heat exchanger and a cylindrical stainless steel mesh burner. The MCBA control module, located inside the lower front cover, provided easy access to troubleshooting information. Multiple venting options were available with the Freedom, including using polypropylene concentric material, CPVC/PVC material, or an AL29-4C stainless steel two-pipe system.

I'm very unhappy with this unit. In the first year (2011), I replaced the pressure switch twice and installed a new transformer and thermostat. To date (2014) I have had 13 service calls for no heat, replaced the pressure switch again and the flue sensor. Not a happy customer and would never recommend this unit to anyone!

"Fan Failed After 2 Years With NO Warranty!!!"
I own an HVAC company and have over 30 years in the business. We installed a Freedom condensing gas boiler 2 years ago for a customer. The boiler keeps tripping out with an error code that says the fan is not running. Burnham tech says the fan has a computer in it that fails, even though the fan is still good. He knew what the problem was right away, so they are having this problem in more than one unit. My cost on the fan is $441!!! If I put a little markup on it and charge labor, the customer will be out $1000. So, I'm going to install it free and sell it at my cost. AVOID BURNHAM PRODUCTS AT ALL COST.

"Horrible Horrible Horrible"
This Burnham boiler has turned out to be extremely temperamental and unreliable. The control unit had to be replaced after 2 years at a cost of $775.00. The Burnham company itself seems to employ only rude and ignorant people who know nothing about the product they sell. A technician got an answer "we don't know what's wrong, you'll have to disassemble the entire unit".

"Freedom Gas Boiler"
Installed August 2010. Used for heating and hot water. Problems began after 1 year with error codes. Installer/maintenance company does not have a clue. Factory non-responsive. Parts unavailable. Down for over a week in winter. Have no confidence in product or support. Sum it up: pos.
Other Freedom Reviews
Most commenters on HVAC forums seem to regard the Freedom as a good boiler, though given a choice on heatinghelp.com between the Freedom and a comparable Triangle Tube model, most people chose the Triangle Tube. Among the problems with the Freedom discussed on hvac-talk.com are a noisy exhaust and blower failure, with most professionals stating that these problems are usually related to the installation and not the unit itself.
The Burnham Freedom boiler is covered by a 15-year limited heat exchanger warranty and a 1-year parts warranty. The last 5 years of the 15-year heat exchanger warranty are prorated. Labor costs are not covered under the warranty.
