Overview of the G234X
The Buderus G234X is an atmospheric gas boiler with an efficiency of up to 84.8% AFUE. The unit is set up for natural gas and easily converted to propane. It is constructed of cast iron and designed to resist thermal shock and corrosion, and stainless steel burners provide lower emissions. The heavy gauge jacket features 3 inches of thermal insulation to protect against standby loss and reduce sound levels. A removable burner tray provides easier servicing and maintenance. The G234X is compatible with a Buderus indirect fired hot water tank and a Logamatic control, which can increase efficiency and accommodate radiant heat.

This boiler was installed in February of 2013. I changed over from oil to gas, replacing a Weil-McLain Gold Series that was 10 years old and ran with no problems except for the price of oil. My annual oil bill was north of $6000 and now is just over $1600. I know many of you may be saying, yeah, right, but this is the truth. The one additional component, to be fair in the apple to apple comparison between the two units and fuel type, is that the Buderus has a control head and the Weil-McLain didn't. That control makes a huge difference and significantly contributes to the efficiency of the boiler. I, in fact, just had my first problem yesterday, when the boiler would not fire after my wife turned a thermostat in her office up for heat. It all had to do with the warm weather shut off, which merely took an adjustment to the program to correct. For my part, the boiler reacted appropriately, as the outdoor temperature was 70, and who in their right mind would turn heat on at that temperature? Clearly the fuel type is the key to the savings and that has been exceptional, but props must be given to the equipment and controls.

Ever since moving into this home in 2008 with the Buderus gas furnace, it has shutdown without warning. It was installed in 2003. I would switch the furnace off to on and it would start up. I have had several plumbers who are suppose to be experts in this system and problem not fixed. Called Buderus in New Hampshire today and received no help. Wouldn't comment, other then to say get a technician to take a look at it. I asked if he knew of any expert in my area and he did not. In summary no help at all. I have now installed a freeze monitor that will notify me when I am away, if the house temperature goes below 45f. No help, no solution and spending many dollars.

"Buderus LT water heater [ JUNK ]"
If anyone is considering buying a buderus (G234X-55) "don't". Nothing but very expensive headaches. I will not recommend or even think about buying any buderus product again. Please, don't even consider buying this product !!!!
Other G234X Reviews
Based on comments from HVAC forums, the G234X is regarded as a reliable boiler. Consumers on terrylove.com having trouble with radiant heat believe that the problem is due to poor installation and not the boiler. A consumer having problems with the igniter after converting from propane to natural gas found that air in the line was causing the problem.
