Overview of the G124X

The discontinued Buderus Logano G124X gas boiler has an AFUE rating up to 84.6 and ranges in its three available sizes from 74,000 to 132,500 BTU/H. The boiler may be installed in closets or on combustible floors. Venting can be directed out the chimney or a sidewall. According to the manufacturer, installation is made simple due to the unit’s adjustable rubber leveling feet.

The G124X is manufactured with a Buderus patented product: flexible cast iron injected with silicone. This material reportedly makes the unit resistant to corrosion and thermal shock during rapid temperature changes. The blue enameled, heavy-gauge steel jacket features 3 inches of insulation to prevent heat loss. This Buderus boiler has low emission, stainless steel premix burners and the flue ways are tightly sealed.

Additional options on the G124X available to homeowners include the choice of a standing pilot light or a more efficient intermittent ignition. It can be converted from natural gas to propane use and accessories are available such as Logamatic control, a vertical flue kit, circulator pumps and cleaning brushes.

"Excellent product"
I installed my boiler in 2002 including the EcoMatic controller and indirect domestic hot water tank. It has operated in excess of 14,000 hours since then (via EcoMatic's operating hour recorder) combined space heating and domestic hot water generation. Its combustion efficiency is the same as the day it was installed - I've measured it periodically over the years.

"Condensation issues since day one"
Back in the spring of 2011 we had a Buderus G124X-25II installed with a Logamatic 2107. Since day one we have had condensation issues in our chimney. When the heat is running condensation builds up in the chimney and drips out into the family room where the liner runs behind the wall. We contacted the plumbing contractor and Buderus to fix the problem, but both were not able to come up with a solution. We paid to replace the liner twice to try different sizes. Adjustments were made to the system, but nothing has worked. Currently we have several buckets in the family room and behind the wall to attempt to catch the drips. For the first 2 years we had several problems with the system malfunctioning. We would notice the host was getting cold and when I checked the system there would be an error displayed on the Logamatic. Living in the Northeast we were afraid to leave the house for extended periods during the winter because we could not depend on the system running while we were gone. At this point we decided to stop throwing money at the system and look into have a better boiler installed. I would not recommend the Buderus G124X- 25II to anyone!

This system has been a nightmare. For the first 2-3 years it ran well...and then it all started. So where to begin. First, I have my heating system serviced every year and most technicians look at it like they saw a ghost. Problems started when a faulty wire cause the system to turn on and off in rapid succession. Almost $1000 later they found and resolved the problem. Two years later the indirect hot water tank blew the release valve. Six months later another release valve. Then I had another expansion tank installed. Less that a year later the burner was shutting on and off & I had to do a manual reset almost daily. Had the qua stat replaced. Worked for a while then needed the flame sensor ignition rod replaced. Worked for a while then in a very violent episode the system rumbled and the pressure valve blew on the boiler. Had the expansion tank replaced and the pressure release valve replaced. Now the system is not reading the temperature correctly. I had to run down and shut the system off because I heard massive rumbling again! Now they are saying there is a thermostat issue. I am several thousand dollars into repairs not to mention literally weeks of showering at friends houses.

"Get facts straight"
Most of you people are complete morons. Do you not understand that Buderus only makes the cast iron part of your boiler? All other aspects, the gun, the aquastats, the relays and controls, are all made from other manufacturers. The only thing that you can blame on Buderus, is if you have a water leak in the actual boiler. This is extremely rare. Most complaints are about failure to fire or other control failure usually due to installer error. How dare you idiots ruin the reputation of one of the best boiler manufacturers due to your own ignorance. Do your homework. The internet is a powerful tool and quite dangerous in the hands of incompetence. I have, and know many people in my area(we all used the same installer) that have had not one issue with our Buderus set up. I'm going on 8 years with my G115 Buderus boiler and Buderus indirect water heater with out one single problem, and I don't even maintain it yearly like I should. Just so there is no misunderstanding from my post, the installer is everything. Use a bad installer and pay the price with firing and control problems. This is not the fault of Buderus. For the few that have had actual leaks in their boiler, yes that is unfortunate and very rare. However, some of those problems are the result of very rough handling of the unit during install.

"My wonderfull Buderus Boiler"
I installed the boiler in 2002. I redid the whole house, taking out radiators and installing 3 zone baseboard. The boiler is compact and very quiet. I use 3 motors for water flow, one for each zone. I also use antifreeze with it to coat the lines and boiler. I have no dislikes about my boiler, hoping it will last a good long while with proper care. In 2013 I had to replace the gas valve. The gas we have is dirty and there was a blockage of white powder. This was not the fault of the boiler, it was set for 130,000 Btu, but only about 80,000 was getting through. First time with an atmospheric unit, but now it would not go any other way! I paid $1800 for it then, I haven't looked to see what they're going for now. I would buy this brand again and highly recommend it to any one. I am getting 84.5% efficiency out of it and with a draft fan bring it up to 85%. The height of the highest line goes through my attic. That's one of the reasons for antifreeze. The height is approximately 45 feet, linear baseboard is about 80 feet per zone, and I run it at 200 F. They say German products are the best, and I see why. I really love my boiler!

"Overall I'm satisfied, though there are issues"
Have had a G124X for over 16 years. Overall I'm satisfied, though there have been bizarre issues over the years. For example, in the first 5 years I had to replace 4 thermocouples, until the Lilco service guy decided to put in a "husky" thermocouple; then I only had to replace it 2 more times in the past 11 years. I also have replaced the FK sensor 4 times over the years, and no one can give me a good reason why. I have been replacing them myself and now purchase two to always have a spare in hand. Also, it was first installed by a company here on Long Island who was terrible, though at the time the only Buderus supplier. No one else wanted to get involved, especially Lilco or Lipa or whoever it was back then. I had a switch also fail that I replaced myself. When it works, though, it is terrific.

"Poor product, worse service"
I purchased a gas boiler with a logomatic r2107 controller in 2008. Had a very smart guy install it. The circuit board cracked on the furnace (2011), the installer came back and found the problem and soldered it. ( no big deal, it happens) That took three service calls to find. My real complaint is the logomatic controller. This thing does whatever it wants. The thermostat is set at 68 but the control sets the temperature wherever it wants. i.e. its -34 outside right now, the thermostat is set at 68F, the temperature in the house is 78F and the boiler is still running. ( I like the feature where I have to keep running down the basement to see what the temperature is) I shut the main power switch off and turn it back on to heat my house when it gets real cold like this, otherwise we roast. When it is around 32f (0C) the house is cold, can't maintain the 68F. Most nights we go to bed and can't fall asleep because we are roasting then wake up to a cold house…the opposite of what I would like. The service manual is poor and confusing and contacting Buderus service is a total waste of time. I can not believe any company can give such poor support without it being done on purpose. As soon as it warms up I will call my service guy and have him remove the logamatic R2107 and install a regular old fashion thermostat and temperature control where I just have to go down and turn up the boiler a bit when it gets real cold. I may not get my money back but I will enjoy smashing the piece of crap with a sledge hammer.

"Loudest boiler i have ever heard"
I had a new Buderus boiler installed. at first it was a bit noisy...but tolerable. after 4 years ,this thing ((((shakes)))) my entire 2 story farm house. I have had the installers back numerous times about the "marching band" noises that come from this thing. as I sit here typing this review, I am waiting for the "expert" to show up and look at it for the 6th time.it sounds like someone banging on an empty 55 gallon drum with a rawhide mallet.it is so loud at times, I have to turn off the boiler and plug in an electric heater in my bedroom just so I can sleep through the night.watching tv is a near impossible task without maxing out the volume on the tv set....AND You can still hear it banging over top of the tv volume. dont buy one!

"GB 142 boiler high effeciency"
Boiler fan assy had to be replaced last year for $800.00 then boiler started leaking, new gaskets replaced, then connection to boiler was defective and blew out. New part was not available from Buderus, and upon inspection, boiler unit female connection on boiler had only two usable threads in the boiler. I had difficulty getting parts. Service Experts had to get part from upstate New York. One year limited warranty on boiler quite different versus 20 year warranty on previous cast iron boilers.

Other G124X Reviews

Posters on various HVAC websites consider the Buderus G124X gas furnace to be highly reliable and efficient. However, a few homeowners on these sites claim their energy bills have increased since their G124X was installed. In cases such as this, professionals emphasize a heat loss calculation must be done by the technician to ensure an appropriately sized boiler is installed. It is suggested by these pros that when energy costs rise following installation of a new HVAC product, the cause is due to errors made in the installation process and not the home’s new equipment.
