Disposable fiberglass air filters are simple filters made for home furnace filtration. These filters are formed from a layer of fiberglass bonded between two metal grids. The metal grids provide rigidity to the filter. The filter is encased in either a cardboard or chipboard frame.
Several manufacturers make a disposable fiberglass filter. Some of the most popular selling filters include those made by 3M, Purolator, Camfil Farr, and American Air Filter. One of the earliest companies to sell furnace filters online was WEB Products, who have had a website dedicated to selling
furnace filters since Feb. 1997.
How disposable fiberglass furnace filters are made
Disposable fiberglass air filters are made from a heavy duty layer of fiberglass or manmade fiber material. The fiber is coated with an oily resin to help particles adhere to the fiberglass as the air circulates through the filter. These filters are intended to be used for 30 days and then replaced.
The filters come in a variety of sizes to fit standard furnace filtration systems, or can be custom cut to a specific size. Filters are available in either a 1″ or 2″ thickness.
Disposable fiberglass filters have a MERV rating of 4.
Where to buy Disposable Fiberglass Furnace Filters
You can buy disposable air filters from several online vendors and offline at most home and hardware stores. These filters are sold individually in hardware stores or in cases of 12 through online vendors. The retail price for fiberglass filters starts at $30.99 for a case of 12 one-inch filters. Prices will vary depending on the size of the filter. Two inch deep fiberglass filters retail at $45.80 for a case and increase depending on the filter size.
