"Very happy customer"
About two years ago, my ac unit went out. I needed a new one because it was the middle of summer and hot as hell. After meeting with a few different companies, I decided to go with a Trane unit. First of all, it is an energy efficient model (21 SEER). So it is going to save me a decent amount of money right away in my electricity bill. They told me that this particular unit is one of the most efficient variable speed air conditioners on the market. It is also a very quiet unit. I have had it as I said for over 2 years now and I have had no issues. I have needed no maintenance or services on it so far. The only thing I didn't like about it was the price. It was more than I wanted to pay for a unit, but I believe in the end, it will be well worth it. I would definitely buy this unit again. I would recommend it to all my friends and family. I have been very happy with it and hope I will continue to be so in the future.

"My life with my new Trane Variable speed"
I had this unit installed about 6 months ago. My old unit was needing to be replaced. When discussing options with the tech, he told me about the variable speed unit. Our old unit was always very loud and there isn't much space on that side between our house and our neighbors. The tech explained that this also caused the sound to be louder since it bounces off the walls. We decided to give the unit a try and see if it would reduce our noise as well since we were going to need a unit anyway. Since install, the unit is so much quieter. It also can throttle the speed of the fan whenever it can. I am using less power than before and my noise is so much less. I am absolutely in love with the unit and it has been an awesome investment so far. Next time I need a new unit, I'll look at Trane again.

We bought this unit 5 years ago and it goes out every summer. We have to tolerate 100 degree temperatures in our home for 3 to 5 days each time. Every time it's the motor and board. $10,000 worth of junk and customer service is nasty and condescending. Run, don't walk away from Trane.

This 4 ton Trane XV20i is amazing, so quiet and it keeps the humidity at 44% in Miami. It was about $8500.00 but it will hopefully pay for itself over its lifetime as it is a 20 SEER unit. It's using about half the electricity of my old unit. The really nice thing about these variable speed units is that you can't hear them running even if the return is in your TV room. UPDATE 7/20/15: This air conditioner goes way beyond just high efficiency, I've had it about 2 months now and the electric bill is about 40% less. The way it cools and how quiet it is are the most noticeable improvements. Spend the dough and you won't be disappointed.
Other XV20i Reviews
A post on hvac-talk.com from a homeowner asking for opinions of the XV20i found a few positive comments, including how quiet it is, but there were many comments from professionals stating that the unit is too complicated and they'd prefer one that is simpler.
