Overview of the S3QC
The Nordyne S3QC is a discontinued split-system air conditioner with a 12 SEER rating. Designed for manufactured homes, this series includes five models of compact systems with cooling capacities ranging between 2 and 4 tons. Nordyne recommends pairing this unit with matched coil system for maximum efficiency.
The S3QC is promoted by the manufacturer for its long-lasting performance, including the scroll compressor, copper tube and aluminum fin coils and heavy-duty PCS motor. The series also is designed to make routine maintenance quick and easy through the inclusion of a removable top grill and access panels for all controls and the compressor.
The interior components of the S3QC are protected by a galvanized steel cabinet, while a plastic-coated coil guard and hail guard defend the coils from environmental hazards. The unit also stands on a 2 ½ inch pedestal base to prevent coil damage and help water flow away from the unit.

I paid 4100 for this unit and it has been nothing but headaches. We have a stack of repair bills. The coils have leaked. The thermostat had to be replaced. The coils were touching tubing in the system and burned a hole in the tubing so it was leaking freon. The company we purchased this unit from promised excellent service. They were horrible. They never wanted to come out to check the system and the company who sold it to us finally declared bankruptcy. Now the blower motor is out. This unit is barely 5 years old. Do not buy this brand.
Other S3QC Reviews
The Nordyne S3QC has received few mentions on forums across the web. However, Nordyne products have a wide variety reviews on consumer forms. Contractors on hvac-talk.com consider Nordyne comparable to any other middle-grade HVAC brand. With a solid warranty and proper installation, contractors say Nordyne products should offer reliable service with regular maintenance.
Despite the positive feedback, several sites such as consumeraffairs.com and hvac-talk.com have reports of "lemon" units from unhappy homeowners. Recurring issues, including the compressor breaking, leaking coolant and internal component failures, are among the complaints. Poor customer service and failure to honor warranties are additional grievances aired by homeowners.
