Overview of the PSA4BI

Maytag's PSA4BI air conditioner with the IQ Drive Control is Maytag's top-of-the-line central air conditioner and part of the brand's M1200 series. When paired with the proper furnace or air handler, it can achieve an efficiency of up to 24.5 SEER. The PSA4BI was rated a "Best Buy" by Consumers' Digest and is one of Energy Star "Most Efficient" air conditioners for 2014.

All central air conditioners use a compressor to pump refrigerant through the system, and to increase the pressure on the refrigerant to raise its temperature. Most high-efficiency air conditioners use a type of compressor known as a scroll compressor. The PSA4BI is different -- it uses a rotary compressor, which was originally designed for window-mount and mini-split air conditioners. Most central air conditioners cycle on and off frequently as they try to maintain the temperature in your house. This frequent cycling is inefficient. The inverter-driven rotary compressor design used in the PSA4BI runs (almost) continuously, allowing it to run more efficiently.

IQ Drive Control

The IQ Drive Control is Nordyne's software for communicating between different components of your home's heating and cooling system. When connected with other IQ Drive-compatible components, the IQ drive can track diagnostics (should a problem develop) and increase the efficiency of the entire system through better coordination.

Noisy vs Quiet

The PSA3BI is considerably quieter than many of the units that it is compared to, emitting as few as 59 decibels of noise.

"Maytag sucks, doesn't honor its warranties."
Maytag is a bad product and when broken they will not honor the original warranty that the purchaser obtained. Definitely will never buy a Maytag ever! Do yourself a favor and do the same thing, stay away.

"Service tech looked at Maytag"
Reading most of these reviews, itís realy not the equipment thatís the problem, itís the installer. If you dont have a dealer thatís licensed, bonded and insured, I would stay away from them. Always ask for copy of license and insurance. Ask for references and how long in business. If a system is installed wrong, the system will not work properly. If you were to disassemble all the systems by mfgís and lay the parts out, they would all look the same, other than the color they are painted.

Other PSA4BI Reviews

One concern we have seen, both in reviews here on FurnaceCompare.com and in some of the forums (such as this one) is that you should make sure that you have a qualified contractor that's familiar with IQ Drive systems nearby. Because the inverter / rotary condenser technology is new to ducted cooling systems, some contractors may not be trained with the technology.
