Overview of the MSA4BD

The Maytag MSA4BD is an air conditioner with an efficiency of up to 14 SEER. Because of regional efficiency requirements, the unit can only be sold in northern climates. A corrosion-resistant aluminum Micro-Channel coil and permanently lubricated motor are designed for increased durability. The galvanized steel cabinet features a polyester urethane finish which resists corrosion and protects against the elements, and the composite base pan helps absorb sound and is corrosion resistant. The MSA4BD uses non-ozone depleting R-410A refrigerant.

"Maytag / Nordyne AC - the worst decision you can make!"
Three month old unit, and the compressor is busted. Labor apparently is not covered, and the customer service help is pathetic. Do not buy Maytag! Maytag is actually the Chinese company Nordyne.

"Air Conditioner Coils"
Our air conditioners were both added new after our home was struck by lightning and rebuilt in 2011. We also have had the coils replaced every year. There is a design problem with the new Freon being used and Maytag needs to admit the problem and replace the coils free of charges to the homeowners. This is happening all over with customers.

"Maytag / Nordyne Air Conditioning Hot -- Pissed off!"
Wow lucky me bought a new a/c on 5/24/2014 and on 8/08/2014 the unit went out. Unfortunately my a/c person is in jail. So we have another company to come check it out. The a/c tech said the guy did a great job however your coil in the very back has a pin hole. He said it must have come from the manufacture and ship that way. He said I will put some freon in it till your a/c guy can get to it or I can change it out for $450.00 and the manufacture will cover the coil. So he charged my $136.00 for the service call and checking it out. Well, I bought a new unit less than 3 month old and the coil has a pin hole no fault of mine or the installer and the manufacture tells me they don't cover the labor. Then after I complain they said oh, it's a package warranty and we pay the repair company a flat rate to exchange the coil and part of the labor. I then asked: Well, how much do you pay for labor? She replied: I can not discuss that with you. The a/c companies set their prices and we pay a package rate. My reply was: I bought a new unit, itís 95 degrees and MayTag shipped the unit out and now Iím going to have to pay $450 to $500 in labor to get my new a/c fixed. My reply to the World: Don't buy a Maytag or anything from Nordyne. They say complete comfort / genuine value. I say bs. You can come get this unit.

""ATTENTION" MAYTAG IS GREAT"
I've been a hvac tech and installer for 22 years now and still going. These negative reviews on Maytag are laughable. These customers who are having problems are the ones are taking the cheapest bid. They are just so cheap that they don't do their research on the history and reviews of the company installing. Maytag is very reliable and when not installed properly, there will be problems. Unfortunately there are too many contractors out there who lack the proper training to install ac and Heat Pumps correctly. In turn, these customers are having problem after problem. So instead of digging in their wallet and finding another legitimate contractor to fix the problems the right way, they keep calling the installing contractor back out to keep making the same mistakes. If after three times you keep having problems, it's time to stop being a cheap ass and pay to have a legitimate contractor out. When equipment runs great, the consumers most likely don't come online to write good reviews. When it's having issues, they run online and whine like little babies to their mommies. I have gone through all the reviews of all the different brands on this site and there are tons of negatives on every brand. This should tell you that the equipment isn't being installed right by the contractors. I've installed many other brands and they have had very little issues. The jobs I have to come correct, has told me that the systems weren't installed correctly. So there you have it, if consumers don't do their proper research in looking for a great company, you will have equipment fail on you most likely no matter what brand it is.

"Won't Keep Up"
Bought in March of 2011. Have had repair techs out 5 times with low on charge, nothing found, replace thermostat, etc. It never shuts off during the day. I try to hold temp at 80 and it still climbs to 82 or 83 during the day.

MSA4BD Warranty

Product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Maytag MSA4BD air conditioner is comprised of the following:

  • 12-year all parts warranty
  • 1-year Dependability Promise to replace the unit if the compressor fails in the first year of operation, to the original owner

The warranty does not cover labor costs. Extended protection plans are available to cover labor costs associated with repairs.
