Overview of the XC21

The Lennox XC21 air conditioner is part of the Dave Lennox Signature Collection. It is Energy Star qualified and bears the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. It is rated for up to 20.5 SEER, which the Lennox company says can save up to $1500 in utility bills in five years when compared to a 10.0 SEER air conditioning unit. Buyers of the XC21 may qualify for a federal tax credit. The unit is equipped with a low-sound fan and a two-stage scroll compressor, which Lennox says is on a low setting the majority of the time, reducing power usage.

"Efficient and Quiet Air Conditioning"
I have the Lennox XC21 central air conditioner. I bought it based on a recommendation from a friend. They have purchased from Lennox before and have told me that they've only had minor repair issues, compared to other companies and their products. What I love about this product is that it's Energy Star certified. It has an efficiency score that is top notch. I've already noticed my utility bill has decreased. The features offered are so helpful. It has a dehumidify feature which comes in really handy when I have a lot of guests over at the house, so people don't get too uncomfortable. Another great feature is it recirculates. Of course, it has the standard multi speed options. Even the low speed is pretty powerful. But. when I want a quick blast of cooling off, the high speed sure does come in handy. Some might think the price is a bit about the norm, but the quality is so superb, it is worth spending the extra amount. The quality surpasses the air conditioning units that I've had in the past by far. Another great thing is how quiet it is. Sometimes I even forget that it's on. It's so peaceful and gets the job done when you need it done. If i'm working in the yard and I need to cool off quick, I know I can depend on the Lennox XC21 to give me what I need.

"Terrible experience"
We paid as much as the cost of a new car, and within the first year, the TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) had to be replaced, not once, not twice, but three times. Each time, with the system down for days. Also within the first year, the compressor broke - completely stopped functioning. After it was replaced the system has never cooled as effectively as it did with the original. We have had a horrible ordeal with our HVAC replacement. The salesperson lied about the age of our ducts, he claimed they were 4 or 5 years old, when upon closer inspection they had 1998 stickers on them. (16 years old, the originals, and had to be replaced after the new HVAC had already been sold to us and installed). The company that sold us our unit tried very hard to make things work well, but it just isn't a good unit. They came out so many times, changed things so many times. After a year we just gave up and left it as it is. 2 last complaints: 1) Because the AC became so ineffective, the company changed our fan settings to always be on the high speed - so there's no energy savings from low to high speed fan. 2) Any claims that it is as quiet as a refrigerator are outright bogus. It is just as loud as a low cost AC unit. The outside unit sits on a flimsy piece of fiberglass that looks like a fake piece of concrete, and its fan seems very poorly balanced. I will never buy a Lennox product again. I've heard good things about Carrier and what I saw on a Home Depot model unit was metal fans, metal housings, not this plastic !@$% like on my Lennox unit.

"Had to change my HVAC in the dark, at least now i know."
It has been about a year since I had to change my HVAC system. I went for the Lennox brand since, after a long consideration of other brands, I decided to stick with the one i had before. Even though it needed changing, it had been reliable for a long time. I do not like the price, but if I was going to go for a big upfront expense I thought it to be more justifiable to take it as an investment into this newer unit, which is solar ready, for it would save me a few bucks in my electric bill every month. I would recommend this to friends and family, but they do need to review their own needs and see what fits best for them. The things I like the most about the unit are that it seems to keep the house at a nice temperature, and at a steady rate, and there are no noticeable highs or lows. Also, I love how quiet it is and that it is efficient enough to represent some savings from the older model I used to have.

"The worst system ever"
I had a Lennox XC21-048 system installed 10 years and 2 weeks ago. This system had a 10-year compressor warranty. Well, guess what - the compressor failed! The company wanted a huge amount to replace it. I personally called Lennox and all they could say was we're sorry! I felt like I was in a South Park episode. Anyway, they wanted me to put a Lennox back in. That was a no. I hope you're reading this and take my advice. Use any other brand. After looking on here I wish I knew this 10 years ago. God Bless Have a great day Bill Setter

"Installed the XC21 this past spring"
I had the XC21-048 installed this past Spring and find it to be very quiet, but the dealer sold it to me as being rated at 21 SEER. I now find that the Lennox site only rates this unit as being rated at 18 SEER. What is my recourse to get what I paid for?

"Unqualfied dealers"
Replaced a 5 ton a/c system, found out my 21 seer unit (Quoted) was only a 16 seer unit. After zoning and the 2 stages were not working properly, found out that the blower on the furnace was inadequate causing the system to become a 13 seer unit. The Lennox certified dealer installed a relay to bypass the internal system to make all the equipment work at the 13 seer level. It works fine as a single stage 13 seer system, but that is not what I paid for. Buyer beware.

"Great System"
I love how quiet my new a/c system is. My old Trane system was so noisy that I couldn't even sit on my back porch when it was running. Not to mention my electric bills are half of what they were before. Great system, and I can't wait to replace my main level system.

"Intelligent does not apply to designers of this"
Bought communicating furnace/AC/thermostat combo. Very efficient stuff, but... Thermostat display panel throws off enough heat to throw off a/c temperature-over cools by 3-4 degrees @70 degree setting. Solution is to shutoff display and have it only on when you touch it! You think they would know enough to move the temperature sensor away from the lightbulb! Unit lasted through one cooling season without breaking. Start of second cooling season-did not cool. "Intelligent" circuitry did not give any error messages--unit just thinks its running. Since warantee not cover labor, rang up $450 to replace outdoor fan motor. So far not know long run reliability, but starting off pretty poorly.

"Super Silent Air Conditioner!"
I am very happy with my central air conditioner. My central air conditioner is the Dave Lennox XC21 air conditioner. I bought this air conditioner about 6 months ago, after my old one broke down. I was worried that it wouldn't get fixed, but then I found the XC21 air conditioner, and I bought that spontaneously. I am extremely happy with its performance thus far. I like that this is a very quiet air conditioner. I barely know it is there. It is a very nice finish too. I dislike that this air conditioner costed so much money, but I guess, in the end, it will be worth it. I have not had to repair my air conditioner or replace it thus far. I hope I never will have to either. I would recommend this to a friend, and I would most definitely buy the same brand again. It is so great and I can't wait to recommend it to everyone!

"AIR CONDITIONER REVIEW"
Lennox is a well known trusted brand and I have owned this air conditioner for almost two years. I like that it runs smoothly but I don't like that I can hear it so vividly and I expected it to be almost silent, from the way the company advertised it on the box. I don't like loud machines, especially when my two year old is napping. But on the other hand, I have not had to repair or replace it yet. I would buy the same brand again and recommend it to a friend because its inexpensive and worth the cost. This machine puts out very cool air; the air is almost colder than the one in my freezer.

"Air Conditioner Review"
I have owned my air conditioner for about 5 years and I believe that the Lennox XC21 is a very high quality air conditioner. I like that it is 13 times quieter then standard air conditioners. It has noise reduction technology that enhances this advantage. I am very statisfied with my product, there is nothing I dislike about this product. I never had to repair my air conditioner throughout the whole five years I've used it. I would definitely recommend this brand over any other leading brand to my friends.

"XC21-060-230-03"
It hasn't ever worked. If we don't keep the a/c set on 70°, it gets so humid in the house you sweat. You can't leave the house with the air above 72° because its like a sauna when you return. The air registers are growing mold. The a/c company that robbed us blind keeps saying the system works fine. I paid $10,000 for this lemon. My old unit would run great between 76° and 78°. My electricity bills have increased instead of decreasing with a "more efficient unit." I would not recommend this unit or any Lennox product to anyone.

"My lennox air conditioner"
When i was looking for a air conditioner which is highly efficient in cutting down the fuel costs i found this brand - lennox x21.I purchased this air conditioner 3 years back and it is working great since then. What i like the most is that it makes very less noise. My power bill has significantly reduced after i switched to this product. this air conditioner is highly efficient and also has earned energy Star label .While maintaining a cool, low-humidity home environment ,It runs on low level upto 80 % of its time which helps in less power consumption It has 2 levels of settings , one for hot days and the other for milder days.It also Comes with a 10 year warranty on its parts. This Air conditioner also has a self monitor which monitors the performance and helps to report if there are any issues. this Air conditioners can also combined as intergrated systems though I haven't tried yet to do it. I would highly recommend this airconditioner especially for warm areas due to the hot weather for most of the year.

"Lennox two stage xc21 a/c system"
I had a lennox xc21036 a/c system with a variable speed air handler installed 2 years ago. This system provides the best cooling that I have ever had you don’t even know it is on most of the time. I replaced a carrier builder model that was only 5 years old that I was having lots of trouble with. and changed contractors (I found a contractor that knows what they are doing) the new construction contractors don’t do a very good job of duct sizing and installation this was most of my problems.

Online posters have mostly positive things to say about the XC21, especially its high SEER. However, one poster in this online forum thread says the unit was not as efficient as he had hoped. Other posters attribute this to the model being a large one.

One poster in this thread says the XC21 appears to be a good value for its high SEER rating.
