Overview of the XC14
The Lennox XC14 is a single-stage Energy Star qualified air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 16.00 SEER. It features a scroll compressor and a high-efficiency outdoor coil which provides excellent heat transfer and increases efficiency. A precision-balanced direct-drive fan helps keep sound levels as low as 70 decibels. The unit's PermaGuard cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with a baked-on powder finish, providing protection against corrosion as well as the elements. The XC14 is designed to work with the Humiditrol whole-home dehumidification system to help maintain optimal moisture levels.

"Avoid these units"
I have had two units installed, a five ton and a two ton unit. The five ton has required servicing three times in under two years. The most recent service involved the replacement of the expansion valve for almost 500 dollars (the part is covered by warranty but the labor is expensive). For the initial cost of purchase and installation I expect a much more robust and functional system. I am considering the purchase and installation of both units as a considerable waste of a lot of money.

"Weak air blows to entire home"
I just installed this 4-ton CH33-44/46B-2F unit on 10-5-2016 after it was recommended by one of our A/C dealers, but I was surprised to find that the amount of air coming out of the vents was almost 50% less than my 25 year old unit. I complained about it to my dealer, but he kept saying he could do nothing about it, saying there is no control of fan speed. Now my home is not getting cooled or heated fast enough; even after one hour it is on. Buyers should be aware of this issue when you are buying a new Lennox unit. I called their consumer affairs unit, but the recorded message said that there is heavy call volume and call them back later.

"So far very satisfied"
I don't doubt that the negative reviews are warranted, however this unit is hugely quieter than our old unit, puts out a massive amount of cold air and was installed in less than four hours. Read Consumer Reports. There is virtually no difference between American Standard, Trane and Lennox. Period.

"Very unhappy from day 1"
Unit was installed in August 2010. Start up has been extremely loud from the very beginning (see Youtube video someone posted). Was told that's normal. 3 years old and an integral piece had to be replaced (part was covered but still had to pay $75 service charge). Now just shy of 6 years old and the unit is louder while running. Service tech agreed the unit is louder than normal at start up and while running but could find nothing wrong. He told me they (********* Heating and Air Conditioning) would be in touch but never called. I've called and sent an email but still no response. Should also mention that we have an 1100 square foot 2 bedroom house and this unit is massive. I've seen smaller units on apartment buildings! I would never recommend Lennox products or ********* Heating in Western New York.

This Lennox is the 3rd AC I've owned over the past 40 years. My 2 Trane units were trouble free the years I had them. This Lennox was installed just under 6 years ago (2010) and I am already facing 6 lbs. of Freon which leaked out of the unit. The cost to replace Freon is going to be approximately $700.00! No one can believe a fairly new unit which has been serviced with annual maintenance since installation is leaking. Lennox will never be installed on my property again and I will warn friends and family. I should have read reviews prior to purchasing it because previous reviews all support my dissatisfaction with the name "Lennox".

"Where do I go to get help on my cost to fix this?"
Called Lennox for help on a repair. They said no and would only send the new coil to Air Temp, who put it in. The cost out of pocket to me was $900.00. This was only 3 years old. They had a class action back in 2014 and 2015. This is one of the poorest AC units in my 30 years of having AC units. Is there a resource for me to charge this to Lennox?

"Working Well for us."
We have been in our new home for a few years now and our air conditioner has been able to get us through some really hot and humid summers. In Kansas City you get some very strange weather and some big extremes when it comes to hot and cold. Well, so far our Lennox AC has always been able to handle the job and get us through the hot months without any issues. It doesn't take long at all for it to get our whole house cooled down and the temperature feeling nice and comfortable again. I think it also does pretty good with energy efficiency because our bills have been quite a bit cheaper than at our old house. To be fair the old house was bigger but still the difference in the energy savings is more than the size should account for. I would recommend this AC to anyone.

We have had this unit for three months and it still doesn't work. Many parts have been replaced and it still shuts down after one cycle. It's the worst home product we have ever purchased. Do not recommend this unit. UPDATED 7/13/15: Installed April 2015, it's now July 2105 and the unit still doesn't work. I have had 7 service calls, numerous parts replaced, reset, or parts added for better stability. Our 38-year-old Rheem was more reliable. Our heating supply company is wonderful at showing up to repair it, but Lennox Corp. is involved and they can't figure out why it doesn't work. That being said, we have no air conditioner while Lennox tries to figure out what to do. Our retailer has even offered to give us our money back! However, Lennox, I will call every day till it's fixed; you're not getting out of this through my retailer. Highly recommend you buy anything other than a Lennox!

"I love my Lennox HVAC System!"
I recently replaced the central air conditioning system in my house with the Lennox Elite XC14 after a friend recommended it. It's quiet, clean and small, and for the last 5 months has cooled our home without any problem. I also like that it is energy star efficient- we are saving money already. My only complaint is that it takes a little longer to cool our 2600 square foot house than our previous (much older model). Once it gets going, however, it does great. We are very happy about it and would buy it again or recommend it to a friend without reservation.
Other XC14 Reviews
There are a couple of posts on hvac-talk.com from homeowners asking about the sound levels of the XC14. The first one asks for a comparison between the XC14 and Lennox's XC17, and while it sounds as though the XC17 is quieter, there were a few comments saying the difference is minimal. Most responses to the second post said that the XC14 is a pretty quiet unit.
