Overview of the Elite
The Lennox Elite series of air conditioners is comprised of three Energy Star qualified units -- the XC13, XC14 and XC16. The XC13 has an efficiency rating of up to 15.5 SEER, while the XC14 and XC16 have efficiency ratings of 16 SEER and 17.2 SEER. The XC16 features two-stage cooling, while the XC13 and XC14 are equipped with single-stage compressors. The heavy gauge, stainless steel cabinet features a baked-on powder finish to resist rust and corrosion, and basepan drain holes prevent moisture from building up. The Elite air conditioner is designed to work with the Humidtrol whole-home dehumidification system and uses chlorine-free R-410A refrigerant.

I just had it installed a month ago, after replacing a 4-ton using freon installed over 15 years ago. This Lennox is a 5-ton because I needed more cooling power. I was told this Lennox would fit my cooling needs. All new duct work, etc. 2-Zone system. It cannot cool to the capacity I expected. I'm not happy at all. In order for the whole house to cool efficiently when it gets in the 90's outside, I must turn off one zone. Not happy at all.

Outside fan twice, air handler fan once, three float switches, coolant leak and a constant drain problem I was told could be cured by a four hundred dollar sump pump. I will never use this brand again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. The lowest quality I have seen ever. All these problems in the first five years.

"Do not buy"
I got a Lennox AC unit last year. It's been fixed 6 times already. They suck; do not buy them or you too will be buying a new unit.

"Compressor died in 4 years"
Put a new unit in 4 years ago. Now the compressor won't start at all. Lennox is balking at the warranty now. Very poor customer service.

"Don't buy a Lennox"
I bought a complete Lennox Heating and Air conditioning system in 2012 and within the 1st year the Harmony Board shorted out and the blower motor went. Now, the TXV valve is not metering the refrigerant and it's going to cost $900.00 in labor to replace it. I called Lennox on 3 occasions and spoke to one of their local North Carolina techs and they said there is nothing they can do. Spending $8,000.00 and having 3 major malfunctions in the 1st 3 years is unacceptable and Lennox's lack of concern is even worse. At least they could have sent a tech to look into why this system is failing so often and then contacted the company that installed it to come up with as solution.

"Heavy duty work horse"
Our air conditioner has been running 15 years. It runs 4 months a year in a 2288 square foot home. We have only replaced the contactors and we are getting ready to replace the capacitor because it is squirting oil. The unit was installed in 1999 and it is now July 2nd 2014. We are very satisfied. I do agree that some brands are crappy but it normally is the way its installed that determines how long the unit lasts. Choose your contractors wisely. It can help to if you learn all the steps of installation and how to do them well so you can tell the contractor to do something if he is being lazy and skipping steps. If you know how an air conditioner or furnace works you may be able to diagnose problems your selfand save money because some people want to make quick money and will automatically say"ok, your compressor is bad" when it could be a simple connection.

"I Love My Lennox and Would Buy Again"
I purchased my unit 15 years ago and never had one problem. I change my filters every 3 months. I do maintain it 2X per year. Upon looking for an air conditioner, I had asked several AC repairmen and they all said that they cost more but last longer. I was surprised to see so many bad reviews.

"Poor quality materials"
I purchased the elite series and have had nothing but trouble. I have 3 units and all three have had problems from fan motors to reversing valves. I have spent several thousand dollars repairing the units over the the first 4 years of operations. I have had Rheem and Carrier units with no problems. Had I bought a cheap system I would have expected problems with some quality issues. My cost have only been labor since the parts were covered under warrenty. $450 to change a reversing valve and $450 to change a metering valve is nuts. I will not buy again.

Lennox Elite new full system bought 5/30/07 from Bullard A/C in Bullard, Texas. Found flat on freon 7/07 when called. New condensing unit installed in 2009 and now (today, 8/1/10 a new fan motor.) This unit was $6921.00 and we feel that none of our neighbors have had this type of problem with other units that were even less expensive. I have worked for a Lennox dealer and always stood by Lennox. I will not recommend this product, at the present time. This is not any better than some used units. We feel this was a complete lemon and we should be reimbursed for a portion) even though it is under warranty, except for labor!) Labor is expensive too! Bullard A/C has been very cooperative and could not be a better business operated service. Fortunately, we have an rv where we stayed in while unit was out. My husband just had open heart surgery and has had heart problems. We can not rely on this type of unit.

"Lennox not "elite""
5 yrs 6months old. hvac guys love Lennox because of the service calls. Bought "Elite". Coil leaks every where 6 months out of warranty, local guy thought we had a 10 year warranty not 5 years. Very unhappy, unit was loud , Lennox no help ,my 2nd unit is a Trane 14 years old still working great. Iím going to replace Lennox with a Trane or Goodman all cheaply made to be replaced every 8 years instead of 20. a/c guys are a rip off
