Overview of the HS29
The Lennox HS29 air conditioner, also known as the Elite 11, is a single-phase unit reaching up to 13.05 SEER with a 2.5- to 5-ton capacity, depending on the specific model. At the time of its manufacture, around 2005, this now-discontinued unit was Energy Star-qualified, had earned the Good Housekeeping Seal and its design, with few moving parts, reportedly increased the unit’s reliability compared to other units. The unit uses R-22 refrigerant.
The HS29 is manufactured with heavy-gauge galvanized steel and is coated with a baked-on finish, making it rust- and corrosion-resistant. A direct drive fan is precision-balanced to increase efficiency while keeping noise production as low as 74 decibels. Heat transfer is optimized by the highly efficient outdoor coil, which maintains low air resistance, and the unit is equipped with a Copeland scroll compressor for better air temperature control.
In order to protect the unit from damaging moisture, drainage holes are placed in the base pan. The condenser coil is protected from hail and debris by a non-corrosive PVC-coated steel wire guard, resulting in easier maintenance. Also, if the system needs to be accessed, the reusable service valves minimize refrigerant loss and allow easy recovery. The Elite HS29 has an improved dehumidification feature and optional add-ons such as an electric air cleaner.

"Dont buy it!"
Installed after hurricane Katrina, compressor and capacitor have already gone out. Warranty will cover compressor part only, costs for labor and refrigerant (r22) is additional. Will never buy another Lennox!
Other HS29 Reviews
HVAC discussion boards contain comments regarding the Lennox Elite HS29 are along the lines of “comfort you need at a price you can afford.” The unit’s performance and efficiency are considered to be reliable, and consumers comment on its quiet operation.
Nonetheless, there are questions and comments on discussion boards referring to the compressor and capacitor as being the source of unit failure. For example, a consumer on askmehelpdesk.com writes in to note that his compressor makes a buzzing sound when the unit is turned on, but will not start. Contractors on the site suggest that the problem might be the result of a bad capacitator, but that a professional with testing equipment would need to determine if that’s the case.

The HS29 air conditioner comes with a 10-year warranty on the compressor and a 5-year warranty on additional components that are specifically noted in the warranty documents. Regular maintenance is required as failure to regularly care for the unit will result in a voided warranty. Annual professional service is important, as is changing the filter and keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris.
