Overview of the N4A3

The Heil N4A3 is a single-stage central air conditioner with an efficiency rating of 13 SEER. A filter drier protects the system from moisture and debris, and the unit's top-discharge design improves airflow while reducing operating noise levels to as low as 74 decibels. The control panel is easily accessible for quicker serviceability, and the unit is compatible with most cooling thermostats. A galvanized steel cabinet with baked-on powder coat finish provides protection against corrosion and weather hazards.

"Constant Repairs Required"
Our unit was installed in August of 2014 and we have had 3 major repairs. First the capacitor went out, then the blower motor went out and it is now making a high pitched screeching noise (less than one year after motor was replaced). From our experience, this is a very poorly made unit and I would not recommend it to anyone. Our compressor is now dying which means we will likely have to replace the unit entirely. Very disappointed and frustrated.

"Heil HVAC"
I am a licensed professional contractor, After reading some of these negative reviews here, I would bet that they went with the lowest price contractor thinking they are all the same. Truth is, if you don't install the system professionally, you will have problems, and that's with any brand. ICP Heil is owned and manufactured by Carrier Corporation. It's amazing how people blame the brand when they never blame the installing contractor.

"New AC malfunctioning already!"
We purchased a new Heil 1-stage standard 2-ton AC to replace an older system. Installation was completed in early May, 2015. Forward to August, 2016, and the system stops working during the hottest part of the summer. Although our HVAC repairman was able to fix it within a few days, we are quite upset! According to our contractor, the metering device (which vaporizes the refrigerant) was not working properly and had to be replaced at a cost of over $400 (for the service calls and for labor). We would probably not buy this brand again.

"Inferior product"
After 5-6 days of operation over the last 18 months the condenser developed a hole due to inferior design and manufacturing. Reading input from others, this is clearly an inferior product that should be avoided at all costs - $1600 in my case! Heil does not stand behind their product or customers.

"Junk"
After 3 years it leaked (apparently a common problem). Replaced it with a Goodman...as I have in all our properties.

Other N4A3 Reviews

A homeowner on hvac-talk.com asked for opinions between a Heil system, including the N4A3, and a Trane system. A member noted that the N4A3 is a builder model and that Heil units are very similar to Carrier. In another post on the same site asking for opinions on several units, it is again noted by a member that the N4A3 is a builder model. There is also a post on central-air-conditioner-and-refrigeration.com from a homeowner who is very pleased with his N4A3. An installer replied that he installs about 4 Heil AC units per week and never has a problem.
