Overview of the FRCS

The Coleman FRCS is an Energy Star-approved condensing cooling unit with SEER ratings ranging from 14 to 15.3, when matched with compatible equipment. This unit, a discontinued part of the Comforteer series, is designed to be paired with a Coleman evaporator section and homeowners are encouraged to match this system with a variable-speed air handler and furnace for maximum efficiency. The FRCS uses R-22 refrigerant.

Manufactured in seven models, this series offers a low profile and is available in upflow, downflow and horizontal configurations. All units feature copper tube and aluminum fins, internal protection for the compressor against high pressure and temperature, and top air discharge and other parts designed to muffle operation sounds.

The FRCS also boasts quick installation and maintenance with easy to access components and simple power and control wiring connections, according to the manufacturer. The permanently lubricated motor-bearings also are designed to contribute to low maintenance.

Review:
"Unhappy & Disappointed"
I am extremely disappointed with the Coleman unit that my choice of contractors here in Fresno, California recommended in July 2014. Never mentioned that the "braking" of the compressor would sound like someone kicking in the door of my home. I reported it before the first year was up, again in spring of 2016. Coleman sent me back e-mail stating that "some compressors are just noisy" when they shut down, and left it at that. No suggestion that they would request a check on it, or anything. My 32 year old unit that this unit replaced didn't make those noises. I don't believe I will ever suggest that anyone purchase a Coleman A/C-heating unit or make the same mistake for my own home again. Coleman offered no suggestions as to why it does that other than some compressors are just that way. Well, they shouldn't be "just that way".

"Losing "Freon" charge every year"
Worked great first year, then needed Freon recharge. Has needed recharge annually for 4 years, but keeps us cool thru summer. Contractor just informed us that Coleman will be replacing coil at no charge.

In general, homeowners consider their Coleman products a quality piece of equipment. Some reviewers on gardenweb.com even note these products’ quiet operation and efficiency. Similarly, contractors on hvac-talk.com recommend Coleman air conditioners to shoppers, stating these systems are built well and the Copeland scroll compressor helps ensure quiet operation. An additional warranty for the compressor is another perk of this unit.
