Coleman Air Conditioners

Discontinued Series

Coleman Heating and Air Conditioning is owned by York, a Johnson Controls Co. This company is a large manufacturer of HVAC products. Coleman began as a company in 1900, when W. C. Coleman sold lanterns to pay for law school. Coleman carries three series of air conditioners: the Echelon, the LX and the Comforteer. Each series contains several models.

Coleman Echelon Series Air Conditioners

The Coleman Echelon series is the manufacturer's top-of-the-line air conditioner. The AC8B model achieves a SEER of 18 and utilizes R-410A refrigerant. This model uses the WhisperDrive System, which includes a high-efficiency compressor isolated from other parts, and is designed overall for quiet operation.

The AC6B model achieves a SEER of 16, but otherwise carries features similar to the AC8B. The other model in the Echelon series is the TCHD, which has a SEER of 13. The design of this model allows for installation in tight spaces, suitable for zero-lot-line homes. Coleman promises quiet operation, although this model does not carry the WhisperDrive System.

Coleman LX Series Air Conditioners

The TCJF model carries a SEER of 14.5 and uses R-410A refrigerant. This model boasts a compact size compared to other models from Coleman. The TCJD model in this series achieves a SEER of 13. It also utilizes R-410A refrigerant, and both models are reported to operate quietly.

Coleman Comforteer Series Air Conditioners

The Comforteer TCGF model uses a high-efficiency compressor and is able to rate a SEER of 14.5. This model uses R410-A, as do all of the Coleman air conditioners. Coleman also states that this model operates quieter than traditional air conditioners. The final model is the TCGD, which has a SEER of 13. The TCGD is manufactured with a compact design, for homeowners short on space.

Care and Maintenance of Coleman Air Conditioners

The Coleman website offers some maintenance tips for air conditioner owners, including caulking the hole where the thermostat wire comes into the house and replacing or cleaning air filters regularly.

Coleman's standard warranty is 10 years on parts and 10 years on the compressor. The premium system warranty offers 10 years on parts and a lifetime guarantee on the compressor, with the purchase of an approved air handler and coil.
