Overview of the Performance
There is no actual Carrier Performance air conditioner series. Instead, there are several different Performance series.
The Carrier Performance is an air conditioner available in both single- and two-stage models. It features efficiency ratings ranging from 13 up to 17 SEER and sound ratings as low as 66 decibels. The Performance line includes 13 SEER and 14 SEER compact units designed for tight installations, both of which are stackable for multi-family homes. The heavy-gauge stainless steel cabinet has a baked on powder coat paint finish to protect against corrosion. The Performance uses non-ozone depleting Puron refrigerant.

"My central air conditioner"
I like my central air conditioner because I can depend on it. It is very hot here in the summer and it would be hard to endure without it. After a long day I come home to a cool house and can relax. I program it and I don't have to worry about it. At night, it is on automatic so i don't have to wake up to turn it up or down. It is actually quite energy efficient. I hardly hear it shut on or off.

"DO NOT BUY CARRIER AC UNITS"
After purchasing three Carrier Units for a new home I built in 2005 Carrier refused to cover a $200 fan that died. After spending thousands you would think they would step up on a $200 fan despite it being out of warranty for just over 2 years. To add insult to injury I was told that they now offer 10 years on parts so you would think they would grandfather this knowing they had a loyal customer. Do you want to do business with a company like this. I'll keep you posted if I hear from them now that this info is being spread.

"21 years of service"
My Carrier Tech 2000 installed in June of 1990 failed August of 2011. The outdoor compressor amazingly was still working but I sprung a leak with with the indoor coil and it was impossible to repair. Instead of spending $1500 on a new indoor coil with expensive old r22 refrigerant I decided it was best not to put money into 21 year old equipment. I have a brand new 16 seer Carrier Performance series a/c installed along with a new indoor coil and a brand new Carrier Infinity ics gas furnace which replaced a 21 year old Oneida Royal oil furnace. Installation of everything ran about $7,200 but so far so good. I looked at Trane and Carrier equipment but with my old Carrier a/c lasting 21 years that was reason enough to choose Carrier equipment.

"AWEFUL 6 YEAR EXPERIENCE"
Buyer Beware! We will never buy from Carrier. Not only did we get a unit that didn't work but the company doesn't care about their customers. 6 years ago we bought a Carrier from Sears and it had a dent on it. We requested a new unit but was declined. They installed it and it didn't cool down the house like the older model had. They just blew us off and said we just didn't understand units. Then the previous year it cooled down even worse so it was rechecked and we were told nothing was wrong with it that our expectation was just to high for it. The following year we called a different company to check it and it was discovered we were low Freon so they added more. The following year a leak was discovered and fixed and yet more freon. Following year a new coil system was put in and more freon. The next year another leak and more freon. Now the compressor needs to be replaced after it caught on FIRE! We have talked to Carrier in 2009 and 2011 and they just give us the run around and it seems to be that they don't care about their customers. Don't make the same mistake we did - go with any different brand than Carrier! The product and the company is a pitiful excuse of a company.

Carrier products are noisy and speaking to my friends it appears we all are having leaks in coils and txv valve's going bad. Our dealer said we have to pay labor even though this is there problem. They have issued recalls for all heat exchangers on 90% furnaces. Apparently glazing melts and clogs secondary ht exchanger. This is not the product they think it is.

"My carrier AC surely helps with this hot Summer coming!"
We've owned this for over two years now. What we like about it is how cool it keeps us! What we dislike about it is when I want to turn it off it has a delay before it completely turns off, but thats all AC units. We have never had to replace or repair it. I would definately recommend this to a friend and have another of the same one installed. The Carrier brand to us is a quality brand unit. My wife loves the cold. I have to cover up in a blanket sometimes. It is also extremely quiet. I couldn't think of any better unit out there!
Other Performance Reviews
Among the very few online comments regarding the Performance on HVAC forums is a comparison of the unit and a similar model by Goodman on city-data.com. Almost every comment was in favor of the Performance, saying it is a quality unit.
Product registration is required within 90 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Carrier Performance air conditioner is comprised of the following:
- 10-year compressor limited warranty
- 10-year parts limited warranty
If not registered within 90 days of installation, the warranty reverts to 5 years on both the compressor and parts. Labor costs are not covered by the warranty.
